Overview Of HWIC-1FE
The HWIC-1FE is a High-Speed WAN Interface Card (HWIC) developed by Cisco, designed to be integrated into Cisco routers. This HWIC model features a single port with 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connectivity, specifically configured as a routed port. Routed ports are used for connecting to local area networks (LANs) or for routing traffic between networks. Unlike switched ports, which operate as part of a VLAN and forward traffic based on MAC addresses, routed ports operate at the network layer (Layer 3) of the OSI model and forward traffic based on IP addresses. Routed ports are commonly used for connecting to other routers, switches, or network devices, as well as for connecting to external networks or the internet. The HWIC-1FE provides a convenient solution for expanding LAN connectivity in Cisco routers, allowing users to connect to Ethernet-based devices, such as computers, printers, servers, or other networking equipment.
