2000 Gbps maximum switching capacity establishes the chassis fabric ceiling for expansion planning. 300 Mpps maximum IPv4 forwarding requires a fully populated system; the base chassis alone should not be specified against that benchmark. C6880-X carries 4 GB of onboard memory for control-plane operation. The forwarding-table capacity accommodates large routing deployments, while hardware MACsec provides Layer 2 encryption. Four fans in C6880-X-FAN provide active cooling, and the operating environment must remain between 0°C and 40°C. Capacity planning must distinguish the chassis maximum from the installed interface population and operating configuration.

An existing aggregation node needs more fiber connections without changing its chassis identity. Expansion increases the system to 80 ports through C6880-X-16P10G cards, rather than replacing the fixed base connections. Specify the required installed card count and matching interface components before issuing the purchase order.
A staging build must reproduce the traffic behavior of an installed aggregation chassis. The default configuration uses 2:1 oversubscription; performance mode instead enables eight ports per base module or card at 1:1. Record the operating mode and active-port requirement, then specify that configuration for acceptance testing before the purchase order.

C6880-X identifies the Catalyst 6880-X chassis with XL tables; 6880-X is the series designation rather than a separate port-count or license code. The complete PID distinguishes the XL chassis from the standard-table version. Specify the software entitlement independently because the chassis designation does not select the installed software package.
The Catalyst 6880-X supports SSH and Telnet management connections plus SNMP through a dedicated copper Ethernet management port. That port is isolated in a management VRF and does not route traffic between itself and the switching ports. Specify the management connection when preparing the installation and acceptance configuration.
C6880-X is discontinued and unsupported: end of sale was October 30, 2020, and Cisco support and vulnerability/security support ended October 31, 2025. A purchase should therefore be treated as a legacy hardware requirement rather than a way to obtain continuing Cisco support or security remediation.
