C9407R is a managed Layer 3 modular chassis for Catalyst 9400 campus access, distribution and core builds, with seven total slots, five line-card slots and two dedicated supervisor slots. The 7-slot Catalyst 9400 chassis uses slots 3 and 4 for supervisor engines and slots 1, 2 and 5 through 7 for line cards, so access ports, uplinks, PoE type and fiber density are defined by the modules ordered with it. Network Advantage is included with the hardware, and the platform runs Cisco IOS XE. The chassis supports PoE++ designs through compatible line cards, 8 power-supply bays and StackWise Virtual across two modular switches. The C9410R expands the same family to eight line-card slots and 13 RU where the rack can absorb the larger chassis.

480 Gbps per line-card slot is supported when the Cisco Catalyst 9400 Series 7 slot chassis is configured with C9400X-SUP-2XL, while C9400X-SUP-2 supports 240 Gbps per line-card slot and C9400-SUP-1 provides 80 Gbps. 4320W maximum PoE per slot supports high-density powered endpoint designs when power supplies and PoE line cards are sized for the load. StackWise Virtual combines two Catalyst 9400 modular switches into one logical switch, and Network Advantage enables advanced routing, segmentation, multicast, scale and security capabilities. C9407R supports Static, RIPv1, RIPv2, RIPng, OSPF Routed Access, Full OSPF, EIGRP, BGPv4, IS-ISv4, OSPFv3, EIGRPv6, PIM SM and SSM under the documented routing feature set. Management paths include CLI, WebUI, Cisco Catalyst Center through the subscription path, and a Bluetooth dongle interface for WebUI or CLI access. The base chassis has no installed access ports until line cards are selected.

A Catalyst 4500E refresh can standardize on a current modular campus chassis where WS-C4506-E or WS-C4507R+E estates need a Catalyst 9400 replacement path. Confirm the five line-card slots, two supervisor slots, Network Advantage entitlement and subscription term before the PO.
A wiring closet needing more than fixed-switch density can use the five line-card slots for up to 240 RJ-45, 240 SFP, 240 SFP+ or 20 QSFP28 100G ports. Specify the exact C9400 line cards, supervisor and optics before pricing the chassis.

C9407R is the Cisco Catalyst 9400 Series 7-slot chassis. C9400 identifies the Catalyst 9400 chassis family, and 7 identifies the seven-slot chassis size. The base PID is the chassis, not a supervisor, line-card, power-supply, or bundle part number.
C9407R is managed through CLI and WebUI, with Cisco Catalyst Center available through the Catalyst or Cisco DNA subscription path. The platform also supports a Bluetooth dongle interface for WebUI or CLI access. Smart Licensing and subscription handling require a Smart Account.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst 9400. C9407R remains a current 7-slot chassis, while separate announcements affect selected line cards, Supervisor 1 modules, licenses and IOS XE releases. Check each configured component in the bill of materials separately.

C9407R supports StackWise Virtual for two Catalyst 9400 modular switches in one logical switch. The technology doubles chassis port density at the system level, but each chassis still needs its own supervisor, line-card, power-supply and licensing configuration.

C9407R is the replacement mapping for WS-C4506-E and WS-C4507R+E in Catalyst 4500E to Catalyst 9400 migration paths. The replacement is a chassis-level mapping, so supervisors, line cards, power supplies, licenses and cabling still need separate selection.
