IE-1000-8P2S-LM carries 128 MB of DRAM and 160 MB of flash memory for its embedded software and configuration. STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP support spanning-tree operation and Ethernet link aggregation. IGMP snooping controls multicast forwarding, while DHCP snooping provides an additional control over address-assignment traffic. TACACS+ and RADIUS AAA clients support administrative authentication. Monitoring uses SNMPv2/v3, traps and syslog, while SPAN port mirroring copies selected traffic for analysis. When consolidating connections inside a crowded machine cabinet, chassis dimensions alone do not establish installation space. Leave at least 50.8 mm above, below and in front of the unit, with 25.4 mm at exposed sides. Include cable access and enclosure clearance requirements in the mechanical specification before the PO.
When multiple industrial sites need a common provisioning method, software release 1.9.6 removes Plug and Play provisioning. Express Setup or manual configuration is required instead. Define the approved image and browser-based setup workflow in the rollout package before ordering units for installation across the sites.
When replenishing industrial spares for an installed fleet, identical part numbers can contain different PoE controllers. PD69220 hardware requires software 1.9.2a or later; PD69200 hardware accepts all available releases. Identify the controller in Device Manager and specify an approved compatible image before placing the spares order.

IE-1000-8P2S-LM identifies an Industrial Ethernet 1000 lightly managed switch: IE denotes Industrial Ethernet, 1000 identifies the series, 8P represents eight powered Fast Ethernet downlinks, 2S represents two Gigabit SFP uplinks, and LM identifies lightly managed operation. The complete configuration has ten physical Ethernet interfaces.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM is configured through its browser-based Device Manager using HTTP or HTTPS. SSH and Telnet connectivity are also supported, but configuration remains GUI-based rather than a full command-line workflow. SNMPv2/v3, traps and syslog provide monitoring and event reporting alongside the local web interface.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Industrial Ethernet 1000. IE-1000-8P2S-LM remains available to order. Hardware lifecycle status is separate from firmware compatibility, so an order supporting an existing installation should also identify the required software release and any restrictions associated with the installed PoE controller.
New sealed and certified refurbished IE-1000-8P2S-LM units are offered by ORM. ORM provides up to a 3-year extended warranty on new hardware and up to 1 year on certified refurbished hardware, plus 30-day returns on either condition, terms apply. Cisco's separate platform hardware warranty is five-year limited.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM provides a shared 180W PoE budget across eight PoE+ access ports. Endpoint reservations must remain within that aggregate allowance. Auto-LLDP, Auto-PD Class and Static allocation modes reserve power using negotiated demand, powered-device class or a configured maximum, so endpoint specifications should accompany power planning.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM has two fixed Gigabit SFP uplink cages. Supported industrial optics include GLC-SX-MM-RGD for multimode links spanning 220-550 m and GLC-LX-SM-RGD for single-mode links reaching 10 km. Match the transceiver, fiber type, distance and remote interface when specifying the fiber connection.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM accepts 48-54V DC through its DC-A and DC-B terminal connections. One source can operate the switch; a second provides an alternate feed. When both are present, the higher-voltage source supplies power. Each source intended to carry the full load must accommodate the connected configuration.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM mounts on a DIN rail using its rear spring-loaded latch. The chassis measures 127 mm high, 45.7 mm wide and 134 mm deep, including the DIN-rail assembly. Allow additional installation clearance and access to the power terminals, alarm connector and network cables when specifying the enclosure.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM operates from -40°C to 70°C in a vented enclosure or -40°C to 60°C in a sealed enclosure. A fan- or blower-equipped enclosure supports -34°C to 75°C. These are enclosure-dependent limits, so the selected enclosure and its internal temperature must match the intended installation conditions.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM units containing the PD69220 PoE controller require software release 1.9.2a or later. Units containing PD69200 support all available releases. Device Manager identifies the controller under Switch Information, allowing a spare or replacement unit to be checked before applying an older fleet-standard software image.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM provides eight powered Fast Ethernet downlinks, while IE-1000-4P2S-LM provides four. Both belong to the same lightly managed industrial series. The eight-port model accommodates a larger local endpoint count; the four-port model suits installations whose required powered connections fit within the smaller access-port configuration.
IE-1000-8P2S-LM supplies PoE+ to connected access devices, whereas IE-1000-6T2T-LM is non-PoE. That distinction determines whether endpoint power can travel over the Ethernet connection. The powered model suits compatible devices requiring switch-delivered power; the non-PoE model suits endpoints that already receive power independently of their network connection.
