N2K-C2248PQ-10GE is a Layer 2 data center fabric extender with 48 fixed 1/10G SFP+ host ports and four fixed 40G QSFP+ fabric uplinks. The Nexus 2000 architecture makes this a remote line card for a compatible parent switch, not a standalone Ethernet switch. The 1U chassis provides non-PoE server connectivity, with network configuration and software supplied upstream rather than administered independently on each extender. Cisco Nexus 2248PQ 10GE Fabric Extender deployments therefore require a compatible parent alongside the server connections. The N2K-C2248PQ-10GE= spare differs in supplied components: that chassis excludes power supplies and fans.
N2K-C2248PQ-10GE price for new stock is $287.69. N2K-C2248PQ-10GE refurb price is $113.40. N2K-C2248PQ-10GE is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

1280 Gbps switching capacity and 952 Mpps forwarding performance describe hardware processing, not the bandwidth available beyond the fabric links. 234W maximum input power is the figure to reserve when sizing electrical capacity; supply output ratings are not the extender's consumption. FCoE support permits converged server connections, subject to the parent switch and software configuration. N2K-C2248PQ-10GE receives its operating image automatically from the parent, so software staging must include that upstream system. VLAN trunks, PortChannel, Priority Flow Control and jumbo frames are supported, while independent routing is not part of the fabric extender architecture. Network features and policy follow the parent switch rather than a separately selected local network license tier.
N2K-C2248PQ-10GE is offered new sealed with up to a 3-year extended ORM warranty or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year ORM warranty; returns are 30 days for every condition, terms apply. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on, POST, rated-speed port links, clean boot, optics bay recognition, PSU status and fan status, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition, quantity and accessories on the PO; Cisco's original 1-year limited hardware warranty ended November 30, 2021. POs are accepted, government orders qualify for Net-30, and enterprise volume orders can use UK, EU, US and MEA regional stock and RMA with advance replacement.

When consolidating server connections within an existing FEX deployment, the 3:1 host-to-fabric oversubscription ratio is the relevant traffic-sizing constraint. Aggregate server demand must be assessed against fabric bandwidth rather than hardware forwarding performance. Before the PO, check expected traffic concentration, parent-facing link allocation and the server connection schedule.
When replacing an extender in an established hot-aisle and cold-aisle layout, component airflow must match the rack orientation. NXA-FAN-30CFM-F pairs with N2200-PAC-400W for port-side exhaust; NXA-FAN-30CFM-B pairs with N2200-PAC-400W-B for port-side intake. Specify the matching power and cooling configuration, including any component transfer, before issuing the replacement PO.
Standalone switching without a parent
The fabric extender requires a compatible parent switch. The current migration target is N9K-C93180YC-FX3, a Nexus switch with 48 1/10/25G ports and six 40/100G ports.
25G server host connections
Native host connections stop at 10G. N9K-C93180YC-FX3 provides 48 1/10/25G host ports, but is a different switch architecture rather than an interchangeable FEX chassis.

N2K-C2248PQ-10GE identifies a Nexus 2000 2248PQ 10 Gigabit Ethernet fabric extender. N2K denotes the Nexus 2000 family, C2248PQ identifies the 2248PQ model, and 10GE identifies its host speed class. The configuration has 48 1/10G SFP+ host ports and four 40G fabric ports.
N2K-C2248PQ-10GE is managed through its parent Nexus switch using CLI, DCNM, CiscoWorks, SNMP or XML NETCONF. Configuration and software reach the extender in band from the parent. Include the upstream management system and its access arrangements in staging; the extender is not an independently administered switch.
N2K-C2248PQ-10GE is discontinued: end of sale was November 2, 2016, and Cisco support ended November 30, 2021. Its first replacement, N2K-C2348UPQ, is also discontinued. The migration chain now leads to the available N9K-C93180YC-FX3, rather than stopping at the intervening fabric extender.
ORM Systems offers N2K-C2248PQ-10GE new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year warranty. Returns are 30 days for every condition, terms apply. Cisco's original 1-year limited hardware warranty is separate; Cisco service and warranty support ended November 30, 2021.
The Nexus 2248PQ has four fixed 40G QSFP+ fabric uplinks, with QSFP-40G-SR4 among the supported transceivers. Its host connections support SFP-10G-SR for 10G fiber links. Specify optics or supported cables for both ends of each connection; the fixed uplinks do not require a removable network module.
N2K-C2248PQ-10GE uses two hot-swappable power supplies for 1:1 redundancy. Port-side exhaust uses N2200-PAC-400W or N2200-PDC-400W; port-side intake uses N2200-PAC-400W-B or N2200-PDC-350W-B. Specify the electrical input and airflow configuration together, rather than selecting a supply solely by its wattage or connector appearance.
Yes, the Nexus 2248PQ supports FCoE and Data Center Bridging for converged server connections. Support depends on the compatible parent switch and its software, not just on installing a converged adapter. Verify the complete server, fabric-link and parent-switch configuration before specifying storage connectivity on the purchase order.
N2K-C2248PQ-10GE provides 48 host ports, whereas N2K-C2232PP-10GE provides 32 host ports. Both support 1/10G SFP+ server connections and are discontinued models. The 48-port extender fits denser legacy server connection schedules; the 32-port extender matches existing deployments needing the smaller host-port count rather than additional connections.
N2K-C2248PQ-10GE= is the chassis spare without power supplies or fans, whereas N2K-C2248PQ-10GE is the populated configuration. This changes the components included, not the host-port speed class. The populated model fits replacements without component transfer; the spare requires compatible power and cooling hardware to complete the order.
N9K-C93180YC-FX3 adds 25G host connectivity where N2K-C2248PQ-10GE stops at 10G. The replacement chain passes through the discontinued N2K-C2348UPQ before reaching the current Nexus switch. The fabric extender suits existing legacy FEX replacements; the current switch suits purchases requiring the newer host speed and a different switching architecture.
