PVDM4-32 is a Cisco Packet Voice Digital Signal Processor Module, a 32-channel high-density voice DSP module for Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers. The 32-channel PVDM4 density is the smallest PVDM4 channel option in the on-board motherboard or T1/E1 module slot. Cisco 4000 Series ISRs do not take PVDM3 modules. This Cisco 4000 Series ISR DSP module fits the router motherboard on all 4000 Series ISRs except ISR 4461, or a Cisco Fourth-Generation T1/E1 Voice and WAN NIM for TDM voice. It provides DSP resources for digital voice connections, conferencing, universal transcoding, transrating and media optimization. PVDM4-64 uses the same slots and raises the density to 64 low-complexity channels.

32 low-complexity voice channels, 24 medium-complexity voice channels and 16 high-complexity voice channels set the DSP count for codec planning. 4.85W power, 3.3V input and 1.47A current set the host electrical load. 0°C to 50°C operation, 17 mm height, 51 mm width, 67 mm depth and 0.036 kg weight set the physical match. PVDM4-32 uses multicore DSP technology with echo cancellation, tone detection, noise reduction, acoustic shock prevention and gain control. A motherboard installation requires router shutdown; a T1/E1 NIM installation uses OIR commands before module removal. PVDM4 bay numbering starts after the last NIM bay in the chassis. Voice applications require the Unified Communications Technology Package.

A buyer has a failed 32-channel DSP in a 4000 Series ISR inventory as PVDM4-32. The replacement must match the motherboard ISC slot or the T1/E1 NIM PVDM4 slot. Count one motherboard slot in the router and one PVDM4 slot per T1/E1 NIM before the PO.
A voice gateway needs 32 low-complexity, 24 medium-complexity or 16 high-complexity channels for conferencing, transcoding or TDM voice. PVDM4-32 supplies that density in the PVDM4 form factor. A Cisco 4000 Series ISR uses PVDM4-32, PVDM4-64, PVDM4-128 or PVDM4-256 in the PVDM4 motherboard or T1/E1 module slot. The 4000 Series ISR does not take PVDM3 modules. The motherboard slot serves IP media services, and the T1/E1 NIM slot serves TDM voice.
PVDM4-32 provides 32 low-complexity, 24 medium-complexity and 16 high-complexity voice channels. G.711 and clear channel are low-complexity examples; G.722 and G.729a are medium; G.728, G.729, G.729b, iLBC and modem relay are high. Match the codec complexity before sizing the gateway.
A 4000 Series ISR has one motherboard PVDM4 slot, and PVDM4-32 also fits the PVDM4 slot on each T1/E1 NIM. The motherboard slot does not serve TDM voice cards. Count one module for the motherboard IP media role and one module for each T1/E1 NIM voice role.

PVDM4-32= is the spare form of PVDM4-32. PVDM4-32-RF is Cisco-remanufactured and is separate from certified refurbished condition. The base PID, spare PID and Cisco-remanufactured PID point to the 32-channel PVDM4 density; ordering must match the condition required on the PO.
PVDM4-32 replaced PVDM3-16 and PVDM3-32 as the 32-channel DSP module successor in Cisco 2900 and 3900 Series ISR module transitions. 2900 and 3900 Series ISRs do not take PVDM4 modules, and 4000 Series ISRs do not take PVDM3 modules. Match the router generation.
PVDM4-32 is the 32-channel PVDM4 density, while PVDM4-64 is the 64-channel PVDM4 density for the same on-board motherboard or T1/E1 module slot. PVDM4-32 suits a 32 low-complexity channel count. PVDM4-64 suits a 64 low-complexity channel count in the same form factor.
PVDM4-32 is a daughter DSP for an on-board motherboard or T1/E1 module slot. NIM-PVDM-32 is a Network Interface Module slot PVDM with 32-channel DSP. PVDM4-32 fits 4000 Series ISR PVDM4 slots; NIM-PVDM-32 fits Catalyst 8300 and ISR 4461 NIM slots.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for PVDM4-32. ISR4200, ISR4300 and select ISR4400 platforms that take the PVDM4 stopped selling on 7 November 2023, and Cisco service for those platforms ends 30 November 2028.
