Each combo interface uses either its copper connection or its SFP+ connection, so fiber links share those uplink positions rather than adding separate ports. The Cisco 550X Series targets small-business networks connecting servers, storage devices, and other independently powered equipment. Static routing and RIP v2 provide inter-VLAN and dynamic IPv4 routing, while PBR controls next-hop selection and VRRP supports redundant default gateways. SG550XG-48T carries 512 MB of DRAM and 256 MB of flash for switch software and configuration storage. STP, RSTP, and MSTP manage Layer 2 topology, and LACP supports aggregated links. During server and storage consolidation, the 4 MB packet buffer is shared across all ports rather than reserved per connection. The switch also supports iSCSI traffic prioritization. Map simultaneous storage flows and burst behavior before selecting quantities, and include traffic-profile validation in the purchase specification.
When extending an existing hardware stack, the intended ring or chain topology determines which interfaces must be reserved for inter-switch links. Link aggregation can also form stacking interconnects. Identify the existing stack layout, planned connection paths, and occupied interfaces before specifying the additional chassis and connection accessories.

SG550XG-48T uses external RPS2300 power redundancy rather than dual internal supplies. Include RPS2300 in the power design when external redundancy is acceptable; dual internal power supplies are not available.

SG550XG-48T identifies a Cisco 550X Series 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch: SG550XG is the model family, 48 denotes the copper connection count, and T identifies 10GBase-T copper connectivity. The configuration also includes two shared SFP+ interfaces and a separate Gigabit management port.
SG550XG-48T supports management through the HTTP/HTTPS web interface, Textview CLI over console or SSH/Telnet, SNMP, Smart Network Application, Cisco FindIT Network Manager, and Active Advisor. An embedded FindIT Network Probe supports network-level management. A dedicated Gigabit management port separates administration from the switching interfaces.
SG550XG-48T is discontinued: end of sale was June 18, 2020, and Cisco support ended June 30, 2025. Software maintenance stopped June 18, 2021. New sealed inventory does not restart these milestones, so purchases must be planned without ongoing Cisco service or software maintenance.
