CAB-GS-1M is a Cisco 1 meter cable for GigaStack GBIC 1 Gbps stacking between Catalyst 3550 switches. The 1 m reach separates this GigaStack stack cable from CAB-GS-50CM when adjacent switches need more than 0.5 m. The Cisco Catalyst 3550 stack cable also connects GigaStack GBIC ports on Catalyst 2950G, Catalyst 3500 XL and modular Catalyst 2900 XL switches. A GigaStack forms an independent backbone that looks like one large switch for network management and uses a single IP address. VLAN integration, PVST+ and IEEE 802.1Q or ISL trunking run on the GigaStack GBIC link.
CAB-GS-1M price is $68.67, a 14.6% saving from the Cisco list price of $80.44. CAB-GS-1M is in stock and available for free next-day delivery. (terms applied)

1 Gbps of stack bandwidth carries each GigaStack GBIC connection over the proprietary copper cable. A point-to-point connection uses one full-duplex link, and a stack uses half-duplex links to other Gigabit Ethernet devices. Nine switches are the maximum in a daisy-chain GigaStack. The maximum GBIC-to-GBIC distance is 1 m, so CAB-GS-1M is the longer choice over the 0.5 m GigaStack cable. Do not use standard IEEE 1394 cables, because those cables give no connectivity and can damage equipment. Catalyst 3550 needs Cisco IOS 12.1(4)EA1 or later; Catalyst 2900 XL and 3500 XL need 12.0(5.1)XP or later.
CAB-GS-1M is offered new sealed and certified refurbished. Certified refurbished cables are inspected and bench-tested between two compatible switches, with connectors, pins, latches and housing inspected and stack link up at the rated bandwidth. Order one cable for each GigaStack GBIC-to-GigaStack GBIC link, and confirm the 1 m path before selecting it over 0.5 m. New units carry up to 3-year extended warranty, and certified refurbished units carry up to 1 year; returns are 30 days on every condition, terms apply. Regional stock and RMA coverage spans UK, EU, US and MEA, with RMA with advance replacement; PO accepted and Net-30 for government.

Max Members | 9 switches |
Minimum Software | Catalyst 3550: IOS 12.1(4)EA1 |
A buyer replacing a damaged interconnect keeps the same 1 m GigaStack length when both ends are GigaStack GBIC ports. Standard IEEE 1394 cables do not form connectivity and can damage equipment. Match the installed path to CAB-GS-1M before the PO.
A site adding another Catalyst 2950G or 3550 switch needs another GBIC-to-GBIC link for the adjacent device. A nine-switch GigaStack uses eight half-duplex links in a daisy chain. Count each new switch-to-switch connection before the PO.
A spaced pair uses the 1 m cable when the 0.5 m GigaStack cable cannot reach the two GBICs. The GigaStack distance limit is still 1 m. Measure the cable path, not the rack units, before ordering.
Reach beyond 1 m
GigaStack GBIC-to-GigaStack GBIC distance stops at 1 m. CAB-GS-1M is the longest GigaStack cable named with this technology.
Catalyst 2950 without GBIC slots
WS-C2950-12 and WS-C2950-24 use RJ-45 access ports and do not take a GigaStack GBIC cable. Use CAB-GS-1M only on 2950G GBIC ports.
Standard IEEE 1394 reuse
GigaStack GBIC requires CAB-GS-1M or CAB-GS-50CM. A standard IEEE 1394 cable gives no connectivity and can damage equipment.

CAB-GS-1M is the Cisco 1 meter cable for GigaStack GBIC. It is a 1 m proprietary stack cable for GigaStack ports on Catalyst 3550, 2950G, 3500 XL and modular Catalyst 2900 XL switches. The GS segment points to GigaStack, and 1M identifies the 1 m length.
CAB-GS-1M fits GigaStack GBIC ports on Catalyst 3550, Catalyst 2950G, Catalyst 3500 XL and modular Catalyst 2900 XL switches. Catalyst 2950 models without GBIC slots do not take the cable. StackWise rear stacking ports do not take a GigaStack cable.
Some Catalyst 3550 switches use CAB-GS-1M or CAB-GS-50CM with a GigaStack GBIC. The 1 m cable serves the longer approved copper GigaStack reach, while the 0.5 m cable serves adjacent switches. Match the switch model GBIC slots and GigaStack GBIC before ordering.
CAB-GS-1M carries a 1 Gbps GigaStack GBIC link between two GigaStack ports. The GigaStack forms an independent backbone that can be managed with one IP address. VLAN integration, PVST+ and IEEE 802.1Q or ISL trunking run across the GigaStack GBIC link.
A daisy-chain stack needs one CAB-GS-1M cable for each adjacent GBIC-to-GBIC link. A nine-switch GigaStack uses eight half-duplex stack links. Count the actual switch-to-switch links and the 1 m path before the PO, because the cable length sets the reach.
GigaStack allows a maximum of nine switches in a daisy-chain stack. A point-to-point connection uses one full-duplex link between two switches, while a stack uses half-duplex links. A redundant loop uses different GigaStack GBICs within the same switch, not both ports on one GBIC.
CAB-GS-1M inserts into the GigaStack GBIC receptacles for the chosen configuration. The GigaStack GBIC clip secures the cable against accidental removal. Do not plug one cable into port 1 and port 2 of the same GigaStack GBIC, because that loop can destabilize the link.
GigaStack with CAB-GS-1M needs Cisco IOS 12.1(4)EA1 or later on Catalyst 3550 switches. Catalyst 2900 XL and Catalyst 3500 XL switches need Cisco IOS 12.0(5.1)XP or later. Redundant loop operation needs the later releases named for the switch family.
CAB-GS-1M gives the 1 m GigaStack reach, while CAB-GS-50CM gives the 0.5 m reach. Both are proprietary GigaStack GBIC cables for the same GigaStack technology. Choose CAB-GS-1M when the adjacent GBIC ports need more than 0.5 m and no more than 1 m.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for CAB-GS-1M. CAB-GS-1M serves GigaStack GBIC links on Catalyst 3550, 2950G, 3500 XL and modular Catalyst 2900 XL switches, which are legacy Catalyst platforms. Match the installed switch family, GBIC and cable length before ordering.
ORM Systems offers CAB-GS-1M new sealed and certified refurbished. New units carry up to 3-year extended warranty, and certified refurbished units carry up to 1 year. Certified refurbished cables are inspected and bench-tested between two compatible switches, with 30 days on every condition; terms apply.
