1 Gbps GigaStack bandwidth links GigaStack GBICs in point-to-point or cascaded stack configurations. 0.5 m of cable reach connects adjacent GigaStack GBICs in the same rack or bench layout. Nine GigaStack GBICs is the daisy-chain limit, so a chain needs one fewer cable than the number of GBICs. Loops within a single GBIC are not allowed, and a single cable must not be inserted into port 1 and port 2 of the same GigaStack GBIC. CAB-GS-50CM must use the GigaStack cable path; standard IEEE 1394 cables fail with the GigaStack GBIC. Catalyst 3500 XL and modular Catalyst 2900 XL switches need IOS Release 12.0(5.1)XP or later.
