N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 is a hot-air-exhaust, Layer 3 data center switch with 48 fixed 1/10-Gigabit SFP+ ports for server connectivity. Its modular uplink architecture supports 40G or 100G connections, rather than a permanently fixed uplink configuration. The 2U rack-mount chassis belongs to the Nexus 9300 series and supports top-of-rack, middle-of-row, and end-of-row server access within the Nexus 9000 family. Enhanced L3 distinguishes this bundle from the default Layer 2 software configuration. The discontinued N9K-C9396PX-BA-L3 carries the cold-air-intake designation instead of this bundle's hot-air-exhaust designation. Cisco Nexus 9396PX hardware provides fiber-oriented server access rather than integrated copper access ports or endpoint PoE delivery.
N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 price is $46,200.00. N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

1920 Gbps switching capacity establishes the chassis maximum with a supported uplink configuration, while more than 1500 Mpps forwarding addresses packet-processing requirements independently of aggregate bandwidth. OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP provide dynamic routing under the Enhanced L3 entitlement. N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 uses 16 GB of DRAM and a 64 GB SSD for control-plane operation and local storage. Integrated shared buffering provides 50 MB to handle speed differences between server-facing and upstream connections. NX-OS runs routing protocols in separate processes, allowing a failed process to restart without losing state, and supports online diagnostics. 455W maximum AC consumption sets the published electrical planning ceiling, compared with 232W typical consumption for a normal operating reference. Actual forwarding scale depends on the system forwarding mode and software configuration. Four-way 10G breakout is unavailable on the N9K-M12PQ 40G uplink ports, so these ports cannot substitute for four separate server-facing connections.
ORM Systems offers N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 new sealed and certified refurbished; refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, clean boot, and optics bay recognition, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify the condition, quoted hardware configuration, and license entitlements on the purchase order. ORM warranties are up to 3-year extended for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply; Cisco coverage ended April 30, 2023. Enterprise and volume POs are accepted, with Net-30 for government, RMA with advance replacement, and regional stock and RMA coverage across the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

When staging replacement equipment before installation, Power-On Auto Provisioning can load software images and configuration files during first-time deployment. Keep the staging workflow separate from production credentials and configuration approval. Specify the intended image, configuration file, and provisioning workflow before placing the purchase order.
When maintaining an installed deployment beyond its original maintenance window, account for the May 1, 2019 end of software maintenance releases. A replacement chassis does not restart engineering maintenance. Specify the required hardware configuration and acceptable operating image before ordering equipment for the spare pool.
When consolidating separately segmented server networks, review the 4096-VLAN ceiling against the combined configuration rather than the requirements of each existing rack. Include current assignments and planned additions in the review. Specify the required segmentation and verify the complete configuration before committing the consolidated hardware purchase.
25G connections to every server
The fixed server ports stop at 10G. N9K-C93180YC-FX3 provides 48 1/10/25G ports in a different, 1U chassis for deployments requiring native 25G server connectivity.
Four-way 10G uplink breakout
N9K-M12PQ 40G uplink ports do not support four-way 10G breakout. These ports cannot supply four independent 10G connections from one uplink cage.

N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 identifies a Nexus 9000 switch using Nexus 9396PX hardware, the FA hot-air-exhaust configuration, and the L3 Enhanced L3 bundle. C9396PX identifies the model rather than a 96-port access configuration: the hardware has 48 fixed 1/10G SFP+ ports and a separate uplink-card architecture.
The Nexus 9300 is managed through the NX-OS CLI, the Cisco Data Center Network Manager GUI, and an intelligent API using JSON or XML remote procedure calls over HTTP or HTTPS. Console access supports local administration, while the API provides a separate programmatic management path.
N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 is discontinued, with end of sale on May 1, 2018 and the last date of Cisco support on April 30, 2023. Cisco hardware service and vulnerability support have ended. A remaining-stock or refurbished purchase does not extend those lifecycle milestones or restore Cisco support eligibility.
ORM Systems offers N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 new sealed and certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units. Returns are 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's original 1-year limited hardware warranty no longer provides coverage; Cisco service ended April 30, 2023.
N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 is the Enhanced L3 bundle, with N93-LAN1K9 providing full OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP. The legacy license file is permanent and associated with the chassis serial number. NX-OS-ES-XF Essential and NX-OS-AD-XF Advantage are separate software packages; confirm the actual entitlement rather than treating those names as interchangeable.
N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 accepts N9K-M6PQ and N9K-M6PQ-E for six 40G ports, N9K-M12PQ for twelve 40G ports, or N9K-M4PC-CFP2 for four 100G ports. An uplink card is required for normal operation. Confirm the installed card and its compatible optics, rather than assuming that modular uplink capacity is already populated.
The Cisco Nexus 9396PX provides a maximum switching capacity of 1920 Gbps and forwarding performance exceeding 1500 Mpps. These describe different performance measures, not interchangeable ratings. The chassis also carries 16 GB of DRAM and a 64 GB SSD; the SSD is separate from the integrated shared packet buffering.
N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 has published AC consumption of 232W typical and 455W maximum. Those figures describe input consumption rather than a power supply's output rating. The chassis supports two power supplies for a redundant configuration, but the purchase order must establish the supplied quantity, input type, and airflow configuration.
N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 carries the hot-air-exhaust designation, whereas N9K-C9396PX-BA-L3 carries the cold-air-intake designation. Both are Enhanced L3 bundles using Nexus 9396PX hardware, and both are discontinued. The FA version corresponds to an exhaust-specified installation; the BA version corresponds to an intake-specified installation, so match the existing airflow requirement.
N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 identifies an Enhanced L3 bundle, while N9K-C9396PX is the hardware base whose default software provides Layer 2 security and management. Full OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP require additional entitlement on the base configuration. Both are discontinued; the bundle addresses routed deployments, while the base configuration addresses Layer 2 requirements.
N9K-C9396PX-FA-L3 has 48 server-facing ports supporting 1/10G, whereas N9K-C93180YC-FX3 has 48 server-facing ports supporting 1/10/25G. Following the migration path through the discontinued EX and FX generations leads to the FX3 option. Retaining the older switch addresses legacy sparing; the FX3 addresses native 25G server connections.
