Powered Enterprise Access With Dynamic IPv4 Routing

WS-C3560E-24PD-E is a standalone Layer 3 access switch with 24 10/100/1000 RJ-45 PoE ports, two fixed 10G X2 uplink interfaces, and IP Services software in a 1U rack-mount chassis. The Catalyst 3560-E series serves enterprise wiring closets carrying desktop, IP telephone, and wireless access point connections. The powered configuration supplies compatible endpoints through their Ethernet cabling rather than requiring a separate power connection at each device. Hardware-based IPv4 unicast and multicast routing allows the chassis to terminate routed access networks instead of operating only as an Ethernet bridge. The discontinued WS-C3560E-24TD-E is the nearest non-PoE sibling for otherwise similar access-port and uplink requirements. This 24-port Gigabit PoE access switch retains the fixed-port architecture of the series.

Technical Details

128 Gbps switching capacity defines the fabric available to access and uplink traffic. 65.5 Mpps forwarding provides hardware packet processing, while 11000 IPv4 routes represents the maximum route scale rather than an indirect-route subset. 370W of PoE power is allocated to endpoints, separately from chassis consumption. OSPF, EIGRP, BGPv4, PBR, and PIM-SM provide dynamic routing, traffic-policy control, and multicast forwarding under IP Services; static routing and RIPv1/RIPv2 are also supported. WS-C3560E-24PD-E contains 128 MB DRAM and 64 MB flash for software operation and image storage. The maximum 12000-entry MAC table uses the VLAN template, whereas maximum routing scale uses a different resource allocation. STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP provide Layer 2 topology control and link aggregation. 882W maximum AC draw is an electrical provisioning ceiling for the supplied power configuration, not the endpoint power budget. Physical switch stacking is not supported; neighboring switches remain separate forwarding devices.

Ordering

Specify condition, accessories, and software entitlement when ordering WS-C3560E-24PD-E in new sealed or certified refurbished condition. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested; every port links at rated speed, every powered port has PoE output verified under load, and power-on, POST, and clean-boot checks are completed. ORM warranties are up to a 3-year extended warranty for new hardware and up to 1 year for certified refurbished hardware, with 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply, while Cisco's original 90-day limited warranty is no longer active after support ended January 31, 2018. Enterprise and volume POs are accepted, with government Net-30, RMA with advance replacement, and regional stock/RMA coverage in the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

Current replacement chain endpoint

Migration planning reaches C9300L-24P-4X-A; the original replacement WS-C3560X-24P-E and its successor WS-C3650-24PD-E are both discontinued. Specify the final replacement rather than an intermediate model when procuring a current-generation replacement.

Gigabit uplinks require converters

Gigabit SFP connections require CVR-X2-SFP= TwinGig converters; each CVR-X2-SFP= replaces one X2 interface with two 1G SFP positions. Specify the converters and matching transceivers for the intended uplink configuration.

Confirm software activation entitlement

WS-C3560E-24PD-E requires the installed license file to activate its ordered IP Services feature set. Confirm the enabled entitlement before the PO; changing feature-set entitlement requires Cisco IOS Software Activation.

Refurbished configuration starts clean

Certified refurbished managed units have firmware verified and their configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition and configuration requirements before the PO; previous owner settings are not retained on the supplied unit.

Best For

Legacy Configuration Retention

Where an existing Catalyst 3560-E installation is being retained for configuration compatibility, maintenance planning must account for software maintenance releases ending January 30, 2014. A spare order does not restore ongoing software fixes. Identify the approved software configuration and acceptance of that maintenance limit before issuing the PO.

Refurbishment Inventory Separation

When a spare inventory distinguishes manufacturer-remanufactured hardware from reseller-refurbished units, WS-C3560E-24PDE-RF is the Cisco remanufactured identifier, not the order number for an ORM certified refurbished unit. Specify WS-C3560E-24PD-E and the required condition separately on the PO, and keep the refurbishment designation explicit in the receiving record.

Not Suitable If

PoE+ endpoints requiring higher per-port power

WS-C3560E-24PD-E supplies 15.4W per powered port, not PoE+. C9300L-24P-4X-A retains 24 copper access ports and provides PoE+ with four fixed 10G/1G SFP+ uplinks.

Dedicated physical switch stacking

Physical stacking is unavailable on the standalone Catalyst 3560-E. A deployment requiring dedicated stack interconnects cannot use WS-C3560E-24PD-E as a member of a physical switch stack.

Native SFP+ uplink cages

The two built-in uplinks use X2 interfaces rather than native SFP+ cages. C9300L-24P-4X-A provides four fixed 10G/1G SFP+ uplinks with 24 copper access ports.

Dual internal power supplies

The Catalyst 3560-E has one internal power-supply slot; external backup does not add another internal bay. A requirement for two internal supplies needs a different chassis.

Questions & Answers

What does the WS-C3560E-24PD-E part number mean?

WS-C3560E-24PD-E identifies the Catalyst 3560-E 24-port Gigabit PoE configuration with two 10G X2 uplinks and IP Services software. WS-C3560E is the series identifier, 24 is the access-port count, PD identifies the powered configuration with X2 uplinks, and the final E specifies IP Services.

How is the Catalyst 3560-E managed?

The Catalyst 3560-E is managed through the Cisco IOS CLI using its RS-232 console or Telnet and SSH, plus Cisco Network Assistant and CiscoWorks LMS. SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3 support monitoring. SSH and encrypted SNMPv3 require a cryptographic software image; the separate Ethernet management port supports out-of-band access.

What is the lifecycle status of WS-C3560E-24PD-E?

Cisco ended sales of WS-C3560E-24PD-E on January 30, 2013, and its last date of support was January 31, 2018. Cisco service has ended. The initial replacement, WS-C3560X-24P-E, is also discontinued; the forward replacement chain reaches C9300L-24P-4X-A rather than stopping at an obsolete intermediate model.

What condition and warranty does ORM offer for WS-C3560E-24PD-E?

New sealed and certified refurbished WS-C3560E-24PD-E units carry ORM warranties: new hardware offers up to a 3-year extended warranty; certified refurbished hardware offers up to 1 year. Both conditions include 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco's original 90-day limited warranty is no longer active after support ended January 31, 2018.

How is the IP Services feature set activated on WS-C3560E-24PD-E?

Local Cisco IOS Software Activation uses a license file to enable IP Services on WS-C3560E-24PD-E. The Catalyst 3560-E offers IP Base and IP Services configurations, with activation required when changing feature-set entitlement. Confirm that the installed license enables the ordered configuration rather than relying only on the chassis label.

How much PoE power does WS-C3560E-24PD-E provide?

370W is the PoE allocation for WS-C3560E-24PD-E, with 15.4W available on each of its 24 powered access ports. The allocation permits all 24 ports to deliver standard PoE at that per-port maximum. PoE+ is not supported, so endpoints needing higher per-port power require a different powered-access configuration.

Which uplinks and optics does WS-C3560E-24PD-E accept?

WS-C3560E-24PD-E accepts 10G X2 transceivers in its two fixed uplink interfaces, or CVR-X2-SFP= TwinGig converters for Gigabit SFP links. Each CVR-X2-SFP= converter supplies two 1G SFP positions in place of one X2 interface. Specify the converter and matching transceivers for the selected uplink speed and fiber connection.

Can the Catalyst 3560-E join a physical switch stack?

No, the Catalyst 3560-E does not support physical switch stacking. WS-C3560E-24PD-E operates as a standalone switch, so neighboring switches remain separate devices even when managed together. A common management application or ordinary Ethernet connection does not supply dedicated stack ports or shared stack forwarding bandwidth.

Which power supply and redundancy options does WS-C3560E-24PD-E use?

C3K-PWR-750WAC is the internal AC supply for WS-C3560E-24PD-E, and the chassis has one internal supply slot. External backup uses PWR-RPS2300 with CAB-RPS2300-E=; that arrangement is not a second internal PSU. Include the external backup equipment and its required power supplies separately when specifying that configuration.

What is the difference between WS-C3560E-24PD-E and WS-C3560E-24TD-E?

WS-C3560E-24PD-E provides PoE on its 24 Gigabit access ports, whereas WS-C3560E-24TD-E provides data-only access ports. Both configurations are discontinued. The powered model matches replacements where endpoints depend on Ethernet-delivered power; the data-only model matches existing installations whose endpoints already use separate power supplies.

What is the difference between WS-C3560E-24PD-E and WS-C3560E-24PD-S?

WS-C3560E-24PD-E carries IP Services, whereas WS-C3560E-24PD-S carries IP Base on the same powered access-port configuration. Both models are discontinued. IP Services adds advanced IPv4 unicast and multicast routing; IP Base supplies basic routing. Match the software configuration to the feature set required by the retained installation.

What is the difference between WS-C3560E-24PD-E and C9300L-24P-4X-A?

C9300L-24P-4X-A has four fixed 10G/1G SFP+ uplinks, while WS-C3560E-24PD-E has two X2 uplink interfaces. C9300L-24P-4X-A is the current endpoint of the replacement chain. Existing X2-based installations may require the discontinued hardware configuration; replacement orders requiring native SFP+ uplinks belong with C9300L-24P-4X-A.
