N5K-C5010P-BF is a Layer 2 data center switch with 20 fixed 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ interfaces and one empty expansion slot. Server links and upstream connections share the fixed interfaces, so the connection plan must reserve ports for both rather than assume dedicated uplinks. The Cisco Nexus 5010 uses a rack-mount 1U chassis with rear-facing data interfaces and no PoE output; attached equipment needs its own power. Within the discontinued Nexus 5000 family, N5K-C5020P-BF provides 40 fixed interfaces in a 2U chassis and is also discontinued. Neither configuration includes an installed Ethernet expansion module as part of the chassis-only port count.

520 Gbps switching capacity supports traffic across the fixed Ethernet interfaces and expansion connections. 410W maximum system power provides the equipment-power allowance rather than treating the 550W rating of N5K-PAC-550W as chassis consumption. A unified crossbar fabric and unified port controllers implement cut-through forwarding, while NX-OS exposes CLI access, SNMP and XML interfaces for administration. N5K-C5010P-BF provides a serial console and a separate out-of-band Ethernet management connection, keeping management cabling distinct from production traffic. Front-to-back airflow requires the front of the chassis toward the cold aisle and the rear-facing network interfaces toward the hot aisle. Two N5K-C5010-FAN= modules contain 12 fans in total, so this is an actively cooled chassis rather than a fanless installation. Inter-VLAN routing is absent; routed server gateways must reside on another device rather than on the switch's management interface.
Order N5K-C5010P-BF in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, specifying the N5K-PAC-550W quantity and connection media on the PO. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed port links, optics bay recognition and clean boot; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM provides up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units and 30-day returns for every condition, terms apply; Cisco's original 1-year limited hardware warranty ended with support on November 30, 2017. Enterprise and volume orders support PO acceptance, Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA across UK, EU, US and MEA.

When a staging rack includes Gigabit Ethernet server adapters alongside 10G hardware, the first eight fixed ports can operate at either speed. The remaining fixed Ethernet ports operate at 10G. Specify compatible media and assign the mixed-speed connections before releasing the hardware order.
When an existing server rack needs additional Ethernet connections without changing the base chassis, N5K-M1600 supplies six expansion ports. N5K-M1404 instead combines four Ethernet ports with four native Fibre Channel ports in the same expansion slot. Specify the required traffic mix and module before the PO.
Powered copper endpoint connections
N5K-C5010P-BF has SFP+ data interfaces rather than powered RJ-45 access ports. PoE-powered phones, cameras and wireless access points cannot receive operating power from this chassis.
Routing between server VLANs
N5K-C5010P-BF provides Layer 2 Ethernet switching, not inter-VLAN routing. Server networks requiring this chassis to act as a routed default gateway exceed its capabilities.
Active Cisco hardware service
N5K-C5010P-BF passed its last date of support on November 30, 2017. Purchases requiring active Cisco hardware support or new Cisco service coverage cannot use this chassis.

N5K identifies the Nexus 5000 family, C5010P identifies the Nexus 5010P model, and the complete N5K-C5010P-BF configuration is a 20-port SFP+ chassis with two N5K-C5010-FAN= modules and no N5K-PAC-550W power supply. The complete configuration identifies the supplied hardware; the P character is not a PoE designation for this switch.
N5K-C5010P-BF is managed with NX-OS through the CLI, including SSH, with a serial console and an out-of-band Ethernet management port. SNMP and XML interfaces support external management tools. Cisco Fabric Manager handles storage features, and Cisco DCNM also supports management of the Nexus 5010 chassis.
N5K-C5010P-BF is discontinued: end of sale was November 27, 2012, and Cisco hardware support ended November 30, 2017. Cisco service has ended for this chassis. A new sealed or refurbished condition does not restart those lifecycle milestones or restore an active Cisco hardware support entitlement.
N5K-C5010P-BF is offered new sealed or certified refurbished, with ORM warranties of up to 3-year extended coverage for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns are 30 days for every condition, terms apply. Cisco's original 1-year limited hardware warranty ended with support on November 30, 2017.
N5K-C5010P-BF uses NX-OS for Ethernet switching, while N5010-SSK9 enables Storage Protocols Services for Fibre Channel and FCoE operation. The chassis designation is not a storage-license entitlement. For a storage-enabled configuration, specify the required entitlement separately and do not treat an expansion module as a substitute for licensing.
No, N5K-C5010P-BF ships without N5K-PAC-550W; one separately ordered N5K-PAC-550W provides operating power, and a second supports redundant operation. Each N5K-PAC-550W is rated at 550W. A redundant configuration therefore requires the second N5K-PAC-550W to be specified explicitly rather than assumed to be included with the chassis.
The Nexus 5010 supports Gigabit Ethernet on the first eight fixed Ethernet ports, while all 20 fixed ports support 10G operation. Specify compatible 1G media only for those eligible interfaces. The remaining fixed ports serve 10G connections rather than providing the same dual-speed capability across the entire chassis.
N5K-C5010P-BF supports SFP-10G-SR for short-range fiber and SFP-10G-LR for uplinks only. Copper alternatives include SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M and SFP-H10GB-CU5M. These are separate order items, so match the selected connection to the server or upstream interface before completing the purchase order for the chassis.
The Nexus 5010 accepts one expansion module: N5K-M1600 adds six 10G Ethernet ports, N5K-M1404 adds four 10G Ethernet ports plus four 1/2/4-Gbps Fibre Channel ports, and N5K-M1008 adds eight 1/2/4-Gbps Fibre Channel ports. Select one expansion module for the single bay; storage services require separate enablement.
No, N5K-C5010P-BF provides Layer 2 Ethernet switching rather than inter-VLAN routing. Its management IP connectivity does not make the chassis a routed default gateway for server subnets. Networks needing traffic forwarded between VLANs require that routing function on another device rather than on this switch.
N5K-C5010P-BFS is the storage-enabled OSM version, whereas N5K-C5010P-BF is the chassis configuration without included storage enablement. Both configurations omit N5K-PAC-550W and are discontinued. The former matches an existing storage-enabled OSM requirement; the latter suits an Ethernet configuration with storage licensing specified separately when storage operation is required.
N5K-C5020P-BF has 40 fixed SFP+ ports in a 2U chassis, whereas N5K-C5010P-BF has 20 fixed SFP+ ports in a 1U chassis. Both are discontinued. The larger chassis addresses existing installations needing greater fixed-port density; the smaller chassis matches a Nexus 5010 spare requirement or the lower port count.
The Nexus 5010 requires a 19-inch rack position with front-to-back airflow: the front faces the cold aisle and the network interfaces face the hot aisle. The chassis depth is 762 mm, so check rack fit, cable reach and exhaust clearance before approving the hardware installation.
