SF220-48P-K9 is a Layer 2 smart-managed switch with 48 Fast Ethernet PoE+ access ports and two fixed Gigabit combo uplinks. Each uplink offers a copper connection or an SFP connection, with only one medium active per combo port. The full-width 1U chassis belongs to the Cisco 220 Series Smart Switches and connects powered phones, cameras and other endpoints whose data requirements fit 10/100Mbps access. The discontinued SF220-48-K9-NA provides the corresponding non-PoE configuration for independently powered devices. Automatic voice VLAN assignment separates telephone traffic, while access controls and traffic prioritization provide configurable treatment for business communications. Gigabit connectivity is reserved for the uplinks, so this model is not a Gigabit desktop access switch.

13.6 Gbps switching capacity and 10.12 Mpps forwarding support the installed interface configuration. 375W of shared PoE power must be allocated across connected devices rather than treated as a full-power allowance for every port. STP, RSTP and MSTP provide loop-control options, while LACP supports aggregated links. SF220-48P-K9 carries 128 MB of memory and 32 MB of flash; a shared 12 Mb packet buffer absorbs traffic bursts across the interfaces. Management includes a browser interface, a scriptable CLI and SNMP, with HTTPS and SSH protecting management communication. The switch supports 8192 MAC addresses and 256 simultaneous VLANs for address learning and traffic separation. Eight hardware queues per port support traffic scheduling, and IGMP snooping limits multicast delivery to requesting receivers. Dual firmware images provide an alternate stored image for upgrade recovery. Inter-VLAN routing requires a separate routing device.
ORM Systems offers SF220-48P-K9 new sealed with up to 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to 1 year of warranty. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on, POST, rated-speed port links, clean boot and PoE output under load on every powered port; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. Specify quantity and condition on the purchase order; returns cover 30 days on every condition, terms apply. Enterprise and volume orders support PO acceptance, Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA coverage across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

When phones and cameras have different operating hours, time-based PoE allows power delivery to follow a defined schedule. The schedule must distinguish devices that can shut down from those requiring continuous operation. Before the PO, specify the endpoint operating schedule and identify connections that must remain powered.
When several branches need the same configuration, text-editable configuration files support preparing a common starting configuration and downloading it to additional switches. CLI privilege levels 1 and 15 separate access privileges. Before ordering quantities, specify the configuration ownership, local changes and administrator access required at each location.
When a replacement must be staged before installation, port mirroring provides a way to examine selected traffic with a network analyzer. Four sessions are supported, with eight source ports mirrored to one destination port. Before the PO, identify the capture connections and confirm that the proposed monitoring arrangement fits those limits.
Gigabit connections for every endpoint
SF220-48P-K9 limits access connections to 100Mbps. CBS220-48P-4G-NA provides Gigabit access while retaining 48 ports and is the current replacement for this discontinued model.
10G uplinks to distribution
SF220-48P-K9 offers Gigabit combo uplinks and cannot provide a 10G distribution connection; selecting the copper or SFP interface does not increase the uplink speed.
Fanless operation in occupied rooms
SF220-48P-K9 uses four speed-controlled fans, so the switch does not meet a fanless requirement for an occupied room or a noise-sensitive installation.

SF220-48P-K9 identifies the Fast Ethernet member of the 220 family, with 48 access ports and PoE+ indicated by the powered configuration. K9 remains part of the ordering identifier. A regional suffix completes the orderable form; SF220-48P-K9-NA is the version designated for the United States and other listed American markets.
SF220-48P-K9 supports a web interface over HTTP or HTTPS, a scriptable CLI, SNMP versions 1, 2c and 3, and Cisco FindIT Network Manager. The FindIT discovery utility also identifies devices. HTTPS protects browser sessions, while SSH provides secure command-line communication for administrators using remote management connections.
SF220-48P-K9 reached end of sale on July 30, 2022, and its last date of Cisco support is July 31, 2027. Software maintenance ended July 30, 2023. CBS220-48P-4G-NA is the current replacement for the North American ordering form; remaining Cisco service depends on applicable entitlement.
ORM Systems offers SF220-48P-K9 new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Returns cover 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's limited lifetime hardware warranty includes 1-year fan and power-supply coverage, with Cisco service ending July 31, 2027.
SF220-48P-K9 provides a shared 375W PoE budget across 48 powered access ports, with a maximum of 30W per port. The total budget limits simultaneous delivery, so every port cannot draw its individual maximum together. Connected devices must fit the aggregate allowance as well as the individual port limit.
The 220 Series Gigabit uplinks support MGBSX1 for multimode fiber and MGBLX1 for single-mode fiber, among the available supported transceivers. MGBSX1 reaches 550 m, while MGBLX1 reaches 10 km. Each SF220-48P combo uplink uses either its copper connector or its SFP slot, not both simultaneously.
SF220-48P-K9 supplies PoE+ to connected endpoints, while SF220-48-K9-NA is the non-PoE configuration. Both are discontinued. The powered model addresses maintenance orders for installations supplying endpoint power through Ethernet; the non-PoE model corresponds to installations where phones, computers or other connected devices receive their power separately.
SF220-48P-K9 has 48 Fast Ethernet access ports, compared with 24 on SF220-24P-K9-NA. Both are discontinued PoE+ models. The larger configuration fits maintenance requirements with more endpoint connections, while the smaller configuration corresponds to an existing installation requiring fewer access ports rather than the full 48-port density.
SF220-48P-K9 provides 10/100Mbps access, while CBS220-48P-4G-NA provides Gigabit access and is its current replacement. The discontinued SF220 model remains relevant to matching existing maintenance requirements. The CBS220 model suits replacement purchases where connected endpoints need Gigabit access instead of retaining the older Fast Ethernet connection limit.
No, SF220-48P-K9 uses four fans with speed control rather than fanless cooling. Acoustic output varies with temperature: 39 dB below 32°C, 50.3 dB from 32°C to 40°C, and 52 dB above 40°C. Placement therefore needs to account for operating noise as well as ventilation and ambient temperature.
The Cisco 220 Series provides Layer 2 switching rather than inter-VLAN routing, so SF220-48P requires a separate routing device for traffic crossing VLAN boundaries. VLAN configuration separates traffic within the switched network. Management support for IPv4 and IPv6 does not turn the switch into a Layer 3 routing device.
No, SF220-48P-K9 has an internal power supply accepting 100-240V AC and does not require an external AC adapter. Its published consumption reaches 413W at 110V with PoE loading. The regional ordering form determines the applicable market, so the power-cord requirement belongs on the purchase order with the switch.
