SF550X-48-K9 combines 48 Fast Ethernet access ports with four fixed 10G uplinks in a managed, stackable 1U rack switch for small-business networks. Two uplinks are dedicated SFP+ connections and two are copper/SFP+ combo connections, with only one medium active per combo port. The Cisco 550X Series provides VLAN segmentation and inter-VLAN communication for installations retaining 10/100 endpoints while using faster connections toward the rest of the network. This non-PoE model connects independently powered equipment rather than supplying operating power through its access cables. The discontinued SF550X-48P-K9-NA adds PoE+ for powered endpoints. Layer 2+ functionality combines switching with routing controls, while browser and command-line administration support local configuration. SF550X-48 is the Fast Ethernet model, not the similarly named Gigabit version.

89.6 Gbps switching capacity supports nonblocking forwarding, while 66.66 Mpps identifies the forwarding rate with 64-byte packets for packet-size-sensitive sizing. RIP v2, static IPv4 routing, IPv6 static routing, VRRP and PBR provide route selection, gateway redundancy and policy-directed forwarding. The IPv4 table accommodates 7168 routes and 256 IP interfaces; IPv6 static routing supports 1792 routes and 256 interfaces. SF550X-48-K9 combines 512 MB of memory and 256 MB of flash with a 3 MB packet buffer shared across its ports. A 16000-entry MAC table bounds address learning, and 4094 active VLANs support network segmentation. STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP handle loop control and aggregated connections. DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection and IP Source Guard restrict unauthorized address use. Two fans include one redundant fan, with fan speed adjusted according to temperature. 37.6W worst-case consumption at 220V provides the maximum published system figure for power planning without an endpoint-power load.
Specify SF550X-48-K9 in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, with the regional power connection and accessories identified on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, every port linking at rated speed, optics bay recognition, PSU status and fan status; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. ORM Systems provides up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units and 30-day returns for either condition, with terms applying; Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty and service ended June 30, 2025. For enterprise and volume orders, PO is accepted, government orders qualify for Net-30, and RMA includes advance replacement across UK, EU, US and MEA.

When extending an existing 550X stack, mixed SF550X, SG550X, SG550XG and SX550X members can share one system. Ring and chain topologies are supported, with master and backup control roles. Specify the participating model families and topology before assigning stack connections on the purchase order.
For a batch replacement across small-business sites, 550X switches support text-editable configurations and SCP file transfer for reuse of an approved configuration. Cisco Network Plug and Play also supports provisioning. Before the PO, specify the staging configuration, management access policy and site-specific addressing changes for each unit.
When purchasing 550X switches for packet-analysis labs, RSPAN can mirror traffic across a Layer 2 domain and sFlow can export samples to an external collector. Port mirroring supports eight source ports to one destination. Specify the capture connections and collector requirements before placing the equipment order.
Endpoint connections above 100 Mbps
SF550X-48-K9 limits each access port to 100 Mbps. C1300-48T-4X is the current successor with 48 Gigabit access ports and four 10G SFP+ uplinks.
Ethernet power for connected endpoints
SF550X-48-K9 has no PoE output on any access port. Endpoint power must come from a separate supply, not from this switch.

SF550X-48-K9 identifies the 48-port Fast Ethernet member of the 550X stackable managed family. SF550X identifies the model group, 48 identifies the access-port count, and K9 remains part of the ordering identifier. SF550X-48-K9-NA is the US regional ordering form. The hardware has fixed 10G uplinks and no PoE output.
SF550X-48-K9 supports HTTP/HTTPS, full or menu CLI over console, SSH or Telnet, and SNMP versions 1, 2c and 3. Additional management paths include Smart Network Application, FindIT Network Manager with an embedded Probe, FindIT Network Discovery Utility, Active Advisor and Cisco Network Plug and Play for provisioning.
SF550X-48-K9 is discontinued, with Cisco sales ending June 18, 2020 and Cisco service ending June 30, 2025. Software maintenance ended June 18, 2021. The original Gigabit replacements are also discontinued; their forward migration chain reaches C1300-48T-4X. Continued use therefore requires planning without active Cisco service for this hardware.
ORM Systems offers SF550X-48-K9 new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns are 30 days for either condition; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty ended with Cisco service on June 30, 2025.
SF550X-48-K9 provides four fixed 10G uplinks: two dedicated SFP+ ports and two copper/SFP+ combo ports. Only one medium operates on each combo connection at a time. The uplinks support 1G or 10G operation, so confirm the intended medium, connection speed and compatible optics before specifying the complete order.
Eight 550X switches can operate as one hardware stack using 10G copper or fiber interconnects. Mixed SF550X, SG550X, SG550XG and SX550X members are supported. SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M and SFP-H10GB-CU5M offer copper connections; reserve sufficient shared uplink interfaces for the selected ring or chain topology before ordering.
SF550X-48-K9 supports static IPv4 routing, RIP v2, IPv6 static routing, VRRP and PBR. IPv4 capacity is 7168 routes with 256 IP interfaces; IPv6 static routing supports 1792 routes and 256 interfaces. Plan route counts and interface assignments against these separate limits before committing the switch to a routed deployment.
No, SF550X-48-K9 uses an internal AC supply and an external RPS connection rather than two internal supply modules. Cisco RPS2300 provides external power redundancy. Size the order around that external arrangement if backup power is required; the chassis does not provide redundancy through a second internal supply bay.
No, the 550X 48-port Fast Ethernet switch uses two fans, including one redundant fan. SF550X-48-K9 adjusts fan speed according to temperature. Acoustic noise is 35.7 dB at 0°C to 25°C and 40.8 dB at 50°C, so installation planning must account for an audible, fan-cooled chassis rather than silent operation.
SF550X-48P-K9-NA supplies PoE+ with a shared 382W budget, while SF550X-48-K9 has no PoE output. Both are discontinued Fast Ethernet switches. The non-PoE model fits independently powered endpoints; the PoE model fits existing installations requiring powered access ports rather than a migration to current hardware.
SF550X-48-K9 has 48 Fast Ethernet access ports, whereas SF550X-24-K9-NA has 24. Both retain four 10G uplinks and are discontinued. The 48-port unit suits a larger existing endpoint inventory; the 24-port unit suits a smaller legacy installation where retaining Fast Ethernet access is an intentional requirement.
C1300-48T-4X provides 48 Gigabit access ports, whereas SF550X-48-K9 provides 48 Fast Ethernet ports. The older model is discontinued and its Cisco service has ended. Retaining the original suits hardware-matched legacy needs; the current Catalyst 1300 model suits migration to Gigabit endpoint connections rather than continued 10/100 access.
