WS-C4948 is the hardware-family identifier; the final -E distinguishes the enhanced image. The hardware provides 48 copper Gigabit ports and four alternative SFP interfaces, with 48 active switching connections maximum.
Enterprise Services is the software image included with WS-C4948-E; LAN Base and IP Base are separate Cisco IOS choices for the Catalyst 4948. Enterprise Services includes the IP Base feature set and adds enhanced routing. An order specifying this PID therefore requires the enhanced image, not a lower-image substitution.
WS-C4948-E is managed through the console CLI, SSH, Telnet, SNMPv1/v2/v3, Cisco Network Assistant and CiscoWorks LMS/CiscoView web-based tools. 176W is the average power-use figure for the Catalyst 4948, not a maximum draw rating. PWR-C49-300AC is a 300W power module, and that module rating is not switch consumption. Rack-power estimates need to distinguish average switch consumption from installed module capacity and the selected single-feed or dual-feed power arrangement.
