MS355-48X2-HW sits in an access closet and terminates copper runs for Wi-Fi 6 access points, workstations, phones, cameras, and local devices across 24 10G mGig RJ45 ports and 24 1G RJ45 ports. Engineers place high-bandwidth endpoints on the mGig ports, reserve 1G ports for standard clients, and apply VLANs, 802.1X, QoS, and ACL policy from the Meraki Dashboard. UPoE budgeting aligns powered access points and edge devices to the same closet plan. The access layer gains higher copper bandwidth without replacing every endpoint run.
The switch aggregates endpoint traffic at the access edge and hands it northbound through 4 10G SFP+ uplinks or 2 40G QSFP+ uplinks. Network teams map trunk links, routed interfaces, or port channels to the distribution design, then use Layer 3 switching and OSPF where local routing belongs in the closet. MS355-48X2-HW keeps mixed 1G and mGig access traffic separated from high-capacity fiber handoff.
