Engineers place routed VLAN interfaces, OSPF adjacencies, ACLs, and warm spare design at this tier, then forward northbound traffic through the two 100GbE QSFP28 uplinks. The dedicated management interface separates Dashboard reachability from data-plane optics. The result is a 40G aggregation block that clears access-layer bandwidth into 100G core links without shifting the design into copper access switching.
Two MS450-12-HW switches form a hardware stack through dedicated 100G stack ports, providing up to 400 Gbps stack bandwidth while preserving the 12 40GbE QSFP+ front-panel ports per chassis for aggregation links. Network teams cable stack members, power supplies, fans, optics, and upstream 100G paths as one aggregation domain in Meraki Dashboard. MS450-12-HW operates as the high-bandwidth Meraki Dashboard control point for fiber aggregation. Dashboard stores the MS450-12 port configuration, Layer 3 routing, stack membership, firmware schedule, alerts, packet capture access, SNMP, and syslog settings while the hardware moves 40G and 100G traffic in the rack. Engineers use the local status page only for reachability tasks such as static IP setup before cloud check-in. The result is centralised operational control over aggregation links, routed services, troubleshooting data, support reviews, and planned maintenance windows.
When several access-switch uplinks must terminate as an aggregated connection, the MS450 supports eight ports per aggregate and multichassis aggregates across physically stacked switches. Count the required member links and specify the aggregate layout, cable paths and peer-side configuration before issuing the purchase order.
A multisite order requiring separate administrative roles can use role-based administration through the Meraki cloud dashboard. Configuration changes are recorded in event and change logs, and remote provisioning does not require staging. Specify administrator assignments, change-control responsibilities and firmware scheduling before releasing the purchase order.
When a switch is ordered for initial bench setup, the excluded regional power cord must enter the same purchasing plan. MS450-12-HW cannot run OSPF and warm spare concurrently. Physical stacking provides the recommended gateway-redundancy approach when OSPF routing is required for the deployment.
