Stackable Access for Small Business Wired Networks

SG550X-48-K9 is a managed Layer 2+ Gigabit access switch for small-business networks with independently powered endpoints. Its 48 copper access ports provide 10/100/1000 connectivity, while four fixed 10G uplinks comprise two dedicated SFP+ interfaces and two 10GBASE-T/SFP+ combo interfaces. Each combo connection uses copper or fiber, not both simultaneously. The 1U rack-mount chassis belongs to the Cisco 550X Series and supports access switching with basic routing between networks. The discontinued SG550X-48P-K9 adds endpoint power, whereas this model carries data without supplying PoE. This 48-port Gigabit stackable switch therefore requires separate power for phones, cameras, and access points. Its uplinks are built into the chassis rather than supplied through a removable uplink card.

SG550X-48-K9 price for new stock is $1,989.75. SG550X-48-K9 refurb price is $504.00. SG550X-48-K9 is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

176 Gbps switching capacity provides a nonblocking fabric for concurrent traffic across the installed interfaces. 130.94 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packet sizes defines packet-processing performance for small-packet workloads. Static IPv4 routing and RIP v2 support inter-VLAN traffic, while PBR directs matching flows toward selected next hops and VRRP v2/v3 supports redundant default gateways. The address-learning table accommodates 16000 MAC entries, and 4094 active VLANs allow separate broadcast domains. SG550X-48-K9 carries 512 MB of DRAM and 256 MB of flash, with 3 MB of dynamically shared packet buffering across its ports. Browser-based HTTP/HTTPS management sits alongside console access, SSH, Telnet, and SNMP; the full CLI supports scripted configuration. IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack operation allows both addressing schemes to coexist, and static IPv6 routing supports 1792 routes. STP, RSTP, and MSTP control switching loops, while LACP aggregates links. 52W maximum consumption provides the electrical planning figure; external RPS backup does not constitute a second internal PSU.

Ordering

ORM Systems offers SG550X-48-K9 new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended warranty for new units, up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including every port linking at rated speed and optics bay recognition, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition, regional variant, accessories, and quantity on the PO; Cisco's limited lifetime hardware warranty remains subject to eligibility and ends no later than July 31, 2027. Enterprise and volume orders can use PO acceptance, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement across UK, EU, US, and MEA regional stock and RMA operations.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Legacy inventory and migration

SG550X-48-K9 must be sourced as remaining inventory after its July 30, 2022 end of sale. CBS350-48T-4X-NA is also discontinued; C1300-48T-4X is the current endpoint of the replacement chain.

Fiber optics selection

Fiber connections require compatible optics, such as SFP-10G-SR for multimode or SFP-10G-LR for single-mode fiber. Match the installed fiber and far-end optic before adding either transceiver to the purchase order.

Shared stacking interconnect ports

Stack interconnects use the 10G interfaces also available for uplinks. Reserve those interfaces before ordering SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M, or SFP-H10GB-CU5M for the required direct-attach cable reach.

Best For

Routed Access Refresh

An existing network moving inter-VLAN traffic from its router onto access hardware needs a defined addressing plan. The Cisco 550X Series supports 256 IP interfaces, including VLAN, physical-port, link-aggregation, and loopback interfaces. Specify interface assignments and required routing behavior before issuing the purchase order.

Existing Stack Expansion

An installed stack needing additional connections must remain within the Cisco 550X Series hardware-stacking limits. The combined system supports 400 managed ports, and mixed Fast Ethernet, Gigabit, and 10 Gigabit members can share the stack. Check member compatibility and the planned total port count before ordering an extension unit.

Spare Unit Staging

An existing site's spare-switch purchase needs a repeatable way to prepare the replacement before a failure occurs. Two firmware images and USB-based image and configuration transfer support preparation of a recovery image. Specify the saved configuration, firmware version, and clean-boot acceptance checks before releasing the purchase order.

Not Suitable If

Switch-powered phones and access points

SG550X-48-K9 supplies data only and cannot power endpoints. C1300-48P-4X is a current 48-port PoE alternative with four 10G SFP+ uplinks.

Cisco support beyond July 2027

SG550X-48-K9 reaches its last date of support on July 31, 2027. C1300-48T-4X is the current migration model with 48 Gigabit ports and four 10G SFP+ uplinks.

Silent fanless operation

SG550X-48-K9 has active cooling with two fans, including one redundant fan. The chassis therefore cannot meet a requirement for fanless operation in an occupied workspace.

Questions & Answers

What does the SG550X-48-K9 part number mean?

SG550X-48-K9 identifies the 48-port Gigabit stackable member of the Cisco 550X Series with four 10G uplinks. SG550X identifies the Gigabit model group, 48 indicates the access-port count, and K9 remains part of the full product identifier. SG550X-48-K9-NA is the regional ordering form covering the United States and other designated Americas markets.

How is SG550X-48-K9 managed?

SG550X-48-K9 supports a browser-based HTTP/HTTPS interface, full or menu CLI through the console, SSH or Telnet, and SNMP. Network-level management includes Smart Network Application, Cisco FindIT Network Manager with an embedded FindIT Network Probe, and Active Advisor. Cisco Network Plug and Play supports provisioning rather than replacing local management access.

What is the lifecycle status of SG550X-48-K9?

Cisco ended sales of SG550X-48-K9 on July 30, 2022, and support ends July 31, 2027. Software maintenance ended July 30, 2023. The original replacement, CBS350-48T-4X-NA, is also discontinued; its replacement is C1300-48T-4X. An order should distinguish legacy sparing from migration to a current model.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for SG550X-48-K9?

ORM Systems offers SG550X-48-K9 new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended warranty for new units, up to 1 year for refurbished units, and 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's limited lifetime hardware warranty remains subject to eligibility and ends no later than July 31, 2027.

Which older switch did SG550X-48-K9 replace?

SG550X-48-K9 replaced SF550X-48-K9 in corresponding regional forms, including SF550X-48-K9-NA. The older switch reached end of sale June 18, 2020, and used 10/100 access ports. The Gigabit replacement is itself discontinued, so this relationship supports legacy equipment identification rather than a recommendation for a new long-term rollout.

What uplinks and optics does SG550X-48-K9 support?

SG550X-48-K9 offers four 10G uplinks: two dedicated SFP+ ports and two 10GBASE-T/SFP+ combo ports. Each combo pair activates only one medium at a time. SFP-10G-SR supports multimode fiber, and SFP-10G-LR supports single-mode fiber. Select compatible optics and reserve interfaces assigned to stacking before specifying the remaining uplink connections.

How many Cisco 550X Series switches can form a stack?

The Cisco 550X Series stacks eight members as one managed system using 10G copper or fiber interconnects. Ring and chain topologies are supported, and SF550X, SG550X, SG550XG, and SX550X models can mix. SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M, and SFP-H10GB-CU5M provide direct-attach copper options; allocate interconnect ports before sizing remaining uplinks.

What routing capabilities does SG550X-48-K9 provide?

SG550X-48-K9 supports static IPv4 routing, RIP v2, PBR, VRRP v2/v3, and static IPv6 routing. IPv4 routing supports 7168 routes and 256 IP interfaces, while static IPv6 routing supports 1792 routes. Plan route counts, interface allocations, gateway redundancy, and policy-routing requirements separately before choosing the switch for routed access.

Does SG550X-48-K9 have redundant internal power supplies?

No, SG550X-48-K9 uses an internal universal AC power supply and provides an external RPS connection for backup power. The internal input accepts 100-240V AC at 47-63 Hz. External RPS backup is not a second internal power-supply bay, and the chassis does not ship with dual internal supplies.

What is the difference between SG550X-48-K9 and SG550X-48P-K9?

SG550X-48P-K9 adds powered access ports with a shared 382W budget; SG550X-48-K9 does not provide endpoint power. Both models are discontinued. Within existing installations, the non-PoE model suits independently powered devices, while the powered model addresses endpoints requiring switch-delivered power, subject to its shared total budget rather than unrestricted per-port loading.

What is the difference between SG550X-48-K9 and SG550X-24-K9?

SG550X-48-K9 provides 48 Gigabit access ports, while SG550X-24-K9 provides 24; both retain the same four-port 10G uplink arrangement. Both models are discontinued. The larger model suits denser existing wiring closets, while the smaller model fits legacy sites with fewer independently powered wired connections to terminate.

What is the difference between SG550X-48-K9 and C1300-48T-4X?

C1300-48T-4X has four dedicated 10G SFP+ uplinks, while SG550X-48-K9 combines two dedicated SFP+ uplinks with two copper/SFP+ combo uplinks. SG550X-48-K9 is discontinued. The older unit suits legacy sparing where copper uplinks matter; C1300-48T-4X is the current migration choice when all four uplinks can use SFP+ connections.
