Shared Endpoint Power With Independent Fiber Uplinks

SFE2010P-G5 combines 48 10/100 PoE access ports with two independent Gigabit SFP uplinks and two Gigabit copper interfaces that serve as stack connections in the default configuration. This managed Layer 2+ switch belongs to Cisco Small Business and uses a full-width 1U rack chassis for wired endpoints, IP phones, wireless access points, and network cameras. The fiber slots do not share their connections with copper ports, allowing separate copper and fiber interconnections. A Cisco SFE2010P deployment remains Fast Ethernet at the powered edge; its Gigabit interfaces provide network interconnection rather than faster access-port service. The discontinued SFE2010-G5 is the closest non-PoE sibling, retaining the access-port density without supplying endpoint power.

Technical Details

17.6 Gbps switching capacity provides nonblocking store-and-forward operation across the installed interfaces. 13 Mpps forwarding, measured with 64-byte packets, establishes the packet-processing ceiling for traffic planning. Static routing supports 60 routes, setting the boundary for inter-VLAN routing configurations. SFE2010P-G5 maintains 8000 MAC entries, while four hardware queues support traffic prioritization through priority queuing and Weighted Round Robin scheduling. STP/RSTP/MSTP control loop behavior, and LACP groups links for network interconnection. Browser administration uses HTTP/HTTPS, with Telnet, SSH-secured remote management, a serial console, and SNMP v1/v2c/v3 providing additional administrative paths. ACLs support filtering and rate limiting; DHCP snooping, ARP inspection, and IP Source Guard provide access-edge traffic controls. IGMP snooping restricts multicast forwarding to interested ports. Power redundancy uses an external RPS1000 connection rather than a second internal supply, so the chassis does not provide internal dual-PSU redundancy.

Ordering

Specify SFE2010P-G5 in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, with quantities, rack hardware, and power-cord requirements on the PO. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including rated-speed links, PoE output under load on every powered port, optics bay recognition, firmware verification, and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM warranties are up to a 3-year extended term for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on both conditions, terms apply; Cisco's original limited 5-year hardware coverage ended with service on December 31, 2017. ORM Systems accepts POs, offers Net-30 for government, and provides RMA with advance replacement for enterprise and volume orders across UK, EU, US, and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Manufacturer service has ended

SFE2010P-G5 purchases require support arrangements outside Cisco because manufacturer service ended December 31, 2017. End of sale was December 30, 2012; hardware condition does not reopen the service lifecycle.

Allocate endpoint power before ordering

SFE2010P-G5 endpoint power must be allocated: 48 × 15.4W = 739.2W exceeds the shared 360W AC budget. Size the connected load before ordering; RPS1000 operation reduces available PoE power to 280W.

Specify standalone or stack operation

SFE2010P-G5 orders need an explicit operating-mode plan: G1 and G2 are stacking ports by default, changing mode requires a reboot, and Fast Ethernet and Gigabit switches cannot share a stack.

Best For

Voice Network Segmentation

When an existing voice or wireless installation needs separate traffic domains, 256 active VLANs provide the segmentation ceiling. Guest VLAN support and port authentication allow different endpoint admission policies without changing the hardware. Specify the VLAN allocation and authentication requirements before the purchase order.

Staged Firmware Maintenance

When replacement hardware must be staged before installation, dual firmware images allow an alternate image to remain on the unit during firmware maintenance. Browser and TFTP upgrade paths support the staging workflow. Specify the required firmware and configuration baseline before ordering the staging or spare units.

Legacy Stack Expansion

When extending an existing Fast Ethernet stack, ring and chain layouts permit different inter-switch cable arrangements, with master and backup-master roles controlling the group. Manually assigned unit IDs must be consistent across members rather than mixed with automatic assignment. Confirm the topology and unit-ID plan before ordering.

Not Suitable If

Gigabit speeds on powered access ports

The 48 powered access ports stop at 100 Mbps. Gigabit connectivity is confined to the separate uplink and stacking interfaces, not the powered endpoint connections.

Endpoint loads above 15.4W per port

The powered access ports provide IEEE 802.3af PoE with a 15.4W per-port ceiling. A connected device requiring more power exceeds the individual port capability.

Active Cisco manufacturer service coverage

Cisco support ended December 31, 2017, closing the manufacturer service lifecycle. Purchasing retained hardware in a different condition cannot restore Cisco service coverage for this model.

Questions & Answers

What does the SFE2010P-G5 part number identify?

SFE2010P-G5 identifies the 48-port Fast Ethernet PoE configuration with two Gigabit copper interfaces and two independent Gigabit SFP slots. SFE2010 identifies the model, P indicates Power over Ethernet, and the complete SFE2010P-G5 code distinguishes the ordering form supplied on the purchase order.

How is SFE2010P-G5 managed?

SFE2010P-G5 supports browser-based HTTP/HTTPS management, Telnet for simple configuration and diagnostics, a serial console, SSH-secured remote access, and SNMP v1/v2c/v3. The embedded web interface handles configuration, while the console supplies a local connection for initial setup and administrative access.

Is SFE2010P-G5 discontinued?

SFE2010P-G5 is discontinued: end of sale was December 30, 2012, and Cisco support ended December 31, 2017. A sealed or refurbished unit remains outside Cisco's service lifecycle; choosing a different hardware condition does not reopen manufacturer service coverage for this model.

What conditions and warranties does ORM Systems offer for SFE2010P-G5?

ORM offers SFE2010P-G5 new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to 1 year; both have 30-day returns, terms apply. Cisco originally provided a limited 5-year hardware warranty, but Cisco service ended December 31, 2017. ORM's warranty is separate from that ended manufacturer coverage.

How much PoE power does SFE2010P-G5 provide?

SFE2010P-G5 provides a shared 360W PoE budget on normal AC power, with a maximum of 15.4W on an individual powered port. Operation through RPS1000 reduces the available budget to 280W. The aggregate budget does not support maximum per-port power across every powered connection simultaneously.

Which uplinks does SFE2010P-G5 have?

SFE2010P-G5 has two independent 1GbE SFP slots and two Gigabit copper interfaces. The SFP slots are not shared combo connections. The copper interfaces serve as stacking ports by default and function as regular Ethernet ports when the switch is configured for standalone operation.

How many switches can Cisco SFE2010P stack?

Cisco SFE2010P supports four switches in a resilient stack, with a maximum of 192 Fast Ethernet access ports. Ring and chain arrangements are supported, with master and backup-master control. Fast Ethernet and Gigabit switches cannot be mixed within the same stack.

What routing capability does SFE2010P-G5 provide?

SFE2010P-G5 provides static routing with a maximum of 60 routes, placing its routing capability in Layer 2+. Static routes support configured network paths without a dynamic routing protocol. Size the route requirement separately from the MAC address table and VLAN configuration limits.

Does SFE2010P-G5 have redundant internal power supplies?

No, SFE2010P-G5 does not provide redundant internal power supplies; redundancy uses the external RPS1000 connection. The chassis accepts normal AC input through its internal supply and an external redundant power connection. Available endpoint power changes when operating through the external redundant supply.

What is the difference between SFE2010P-G5 and SFE2010-G5?

SFE2010P-G5 supplies PoE on its 48 Fast Ethernet access ports, while SFE2010-G5 does not supply endpoint power. Both have separate Gigabit copper interfaces and independent SFP slots. For retained installations, the powered model supports PoE endpoints; the discontinued non-PoE model serves separately powered devices.

What is the difference between SFE2010P-G5 and SFE2000P-EU?

SFE2010P-G5 provides 48 Fast Ethernet PoE access ports, while SFE2000P-EU provides 24. The larger model accommodates a higher endpoint count within one chassis. For retained installations, the distinction is access-port density: select the required powered endpoint count before matching replacement hardware.

What is the difference between SFE2010P-G5 and SGE2010-G5?

SFE2010P-G5 has two independent Gigabit SFP slots, while SGE2010-G5 has four SFP positions shared with copper ports. The independent slots suit retained configurations requiring separate fiber uplinks; the shared arrangement suits configurations where each combo position is assigned either copper or fiber connectivity.
