SG220-50 does not supply PoE, so connected endpoints require separate power. The current CBS220-48P-4G-NA replacement provides PoE with 48 Gigabit ports and four 1G SFP uplinks.
Fanless operation in occupied rooms
SG220-50 uses one fan without speed control and has a 40.3 dB acoustic rating. A deployment requiring fanless cooling cannot use this model.
Inter-VLAN routing on the switch
SG220-50 provides Layer 2 switching rather than IP routing between VLANs. An installation requiring the switch to act as an inter-VLAN gateway needs routing-capable hardware.

SG220-50 has 50 usable network connections: 48 dedicated copper access ports plus two combo uplinks. Each uplink pairs one RJ-45 connector with one SFP slot, but only one side operates at a time. Activating an SFP disables the corresponding copper connector rather than adding another network connection.
The Cisco 220 Series Smart Switches provide Layer 2 switching, not inter-VLAN IP routing. VLAN configuration separates traffic, but communication between different IP subnets requires a router. A management IP address makes the device reachable for administration; it does not turn the switch into the routing gateway.
SG220-50 supports MGBSX1 for 1G multimode fiber links to 550 m and MGBLX1 for 1G single-mode fiber links to 10 km. Select the transceiver for the installed fiber and distance, and match the far-end connection. The SFP position shares its uplink with a copper connector.
