Managed Access for Copper and Fiber Connections

SG550X-48-K9-NA combines 48 Gigabit Ethernet access ports with four fixed 10G uplinks in a managed, non-PoE switch. Two uplinks provide dedicated SFP+ connections; the remaining two are shared 10GBASE-T/SFP+ interfaces, with one medium active per combo port. The Rack-Mount 1U chassis belongs to the Cisco 550X Series Stackable Managed Switches and serves small and medium business networks connecting independently powered endpoints. Static routing and RIP v2 place this configuration in the Layer 2+ category. The discontinued SG550X-48P-K9-NA adds endpoint power, whereas this model carries data without supplying PoE. Fixed uplinks avoid a separate uplink-card purchase, but their copper-versus-fiber arrangement matters when matching existing distribution connections.

Technical Details

176 Gbps switching capacity accommodates the access and uplink interfaces without introducing a separate switching module. 130.94 Mpps forwarding performance is specified for 64-byte packets, providing a packet-rate reference alongside aggregate bandwidth. Static routing, RIP v2, VRRP and PBR support local forwarding and gateway policies; the IPv4 routing ceiling is 7168 routes. SG550X-48-K9-NA carries 512 MB of memory, 256 MB of flash and a dynamically shared 3 MB packet buffer. A 16000-entry MAC table sets the address-learning ceiling. STP, RSTP and MSTP handle spanning-tree operation, while LACP supports aggregated connections. The Cisco 550X Series also provides DHCP snooping and protected management sessions through SSH and HTTPS. 52W maximum system consumption supplies the electrical allowance for power planning without an endpoint-power allocation. Two fans provide N+1 cooling redundancy, so installation planning must accommodate an actively cooled chassis rather than a fanless enclosure.

Ordering

SG550X-48-K9-NA is offered new sealed and certified refurbished; refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, with rated-speed port links and optics bay recognition checked, firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Select the condition and specify required accessories on the purchase order. ORM warranty is up to 3-year extended on new units and up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's separate limited lifetime hardware warranty is subject to eligibility and ends July 31, 2027; enterprise and volume orders support PO acceptance, Net-30 for government, RMA with advance replacement, and regional stock/RMA across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Best For

Routed Access Expansion

When an existing network needs additional routed interfaces rather than only more Ethernet connections, the switch supports 256 IPv4 interfaces across physical ports, link aggregation groups, VLAN interfaces and loopback interfaces. Inventory the required interface types and count before specifying the configuration on the purchase order.

Existing Stack Extension

When extending an installed 550X stack, the family permits mixed Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet members. Ring and chain arrangements are supported, with master and backup stack control. Confirm the existing members, intended topology and available interconnect interfaces before ordering another chassis.

Lab and Staging

When a purchase supports configuration staging or traffic analysis, dual firmware images allow separate software images to be retained, and port mirroring accepts eight source ports for one destination. Define the image-handling procedure and analyzer connections before specifying the staging configuration and accompanying equipment on the purchase order.

Not Suitable If

PoE delivery to connected endpoints

SG550X-48-K9-NA does not supply endpoint power. C1300-48P-4X provides a current 48-port Gigabit PoE alternative with four 10G SFP+ uplinks.

Cisco support beyond July 2027

Cisco support for SG550X-48-K9-NA ends July 31, 2027. C1300-48T-4X is the current migration endpoint through the discontinued CBS350-48T-4X-NA replacement.

Fanless operation in occupied spaces

SG550X-48-K9-NA uses two cooling fans, including a redundant fan. The chassis therefore does not meet a procurement requirement for fanless hardware.

What is the lifecycle status of SG550X-48-K9-NA?

SG550X-48-K9-NA reached end of sale on July 30, 2022, and its last date of support is July 31, 2027. Software maintenance ended July 30, 2023. The original replacement, CBS350-48T-4X-NA, is also discontinued; the forward migration chain now ends at C1300-48T-4X.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for SG550X-48-K9-NA?

ORM Systems offers SG550X-48-K9-NA new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Both conditions have 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco's separate limited lifetime hardware warranty is subject to eligibility and ends no later than July 31, 2027.

Which older switch does SG550X-48-K9-NA replace?

SG550X-48-K9-NA is a replacement for the discontinued SF550X-48-K9-NA, which reached end of sale on June 18, 2020. The older model provides 48 Fast Ethernet access ports, while the replacement provides 48 Gigabit access ports. Cisco support for that predecessor ended June 30, 2025.

Which uplink connections does SG550X-48-K9-NA provide?

SG550X-48-K9-NA provides four fixed 10G uplinks: two dedicated SFP+ interfaces and two 10GBASE-T/SFP+ combo interfaces. Each combo interface activates either its copper connection or its optical connection, not both simultaneously. Supported optical choices include SFP-10G-SR for multimode fiber and SFP-10G-LR for single-mode fiber.

How many Cisco 550X switches can form a stack?

Cisco 550X hardware stacking supports eight members managed as one system. Stack connections use standard 10G copper or fiber interfaces rather than a separate stacking-card bay. Ring and chain topologies are supported, and compatible direct-attach cable choices include SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M and SFP-H10GB-CU5M.

What routing functions does SG550X-48-K9-NA support?

SG550X-48-K9-NA supports static routing, RIP v2, VRRP and PBR, with an IPv4 routing ceiling of 7168 routes. IPv6 static routing supports 1792 routes. These functions permit local routed connections and gateway policies, while the Layer 2+ classification distinguishes this configuration from switches offering more extensive dynamic-routing protocols.

Does the Cisco 550X provide internal redundant power supplies?

Cisco 550X power redundancy uses an external redundant power system rather than two internal supply modules. SG550X-48-K9-NA accepts 100-240V AC through its internal supply and has an external RPS connection. Its redundant cooling arrangement is separate from power redundancy and does not indicate a second internal PSU.

What is the difference between SG550X-48-K9-NA and SG550X-48P-K9-NA?

SG550X-48P-K9-NA supplies PoE+ with a shared 382W power budget, while SG550X-48-K9-NA supplies no endpoint power. Both models are discontinued. The powered version addresses installations with powered endpoints; the non-PoE version addresses connections to independently powered devices without purchasing an endpoint-power budget.

What is the difference between SG550X-48-K9-NA and SG550X-24-K9-NA?

SG550X-48-K9-NA provides 48 Gigabit access ports, while SG550X-24-K9-NA provides 24. Both discontinued models retain four 10G uplinks and omit PoE delivery. The higher-density model suits a larger copper connection requirement; the smaller model suits an installation whose access-port requirement fits within 24 connections.

What is the difference between SG550X-48-K9-NA and C1300-48T-4X?

C1300-48T-4X provides four 10G SFP+ uplinks, whereas SG550X-48-K9-NA divides its uplinks between two dedicated SFP+ interfaces and two copper/SFP+ combo interfaces. The older model suits matching an existing 550X installation; the current successor suits a migration purchase requiring four optical uplink interfaces.
