Fiber Aggregation for Small Business Networks

SG550XG-24F-K9 is a managed, non-PoE switch providing 24 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ connectivity for small-business aggregation. Its fixed interface layout combines 22 dedicated SFP+ positions with two combo uplinks that select either copper or SFP+ connectivity. Each combo position supports one active connection, not two simultaneous links. The Layer 2+ feature set and 1U rack chassis place the switch within the Cisco 550X Series Stackable Managed Switches family. Fiber connections can aggregate access switches or connect compatible servers and storage without adding a removable uplink card. The discontinued SG550XG-8F8T-K9-NA provides 16 data ports instead, making port density a distinction when matching a legacy installation or spare.

Technical Details

480 Gbps switching capacity supports nonblocking forwarding across the data interfaces. 357.12 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packets provides the small-packet processing figure for traffic sizing. Static IPv4 and IPv6 routing, RIP v2, VRRP, and PBR support inter-VLAN forwarding and gateway policies. SG550XG-24F-K9 uses 512 MB of memory and 256 MB of flash for control operations and software storage. The SG550XG-24F configuration shares a 2 MB packet buffer across its ports rather than assigning that capacity to each interface. A 32000-entry MAC table accommodates learned addresses, while 4094 active VLANs provide segmentation capacity. STP, RSTP, MSTP, and LACP support loop control and link aggregation. DHCP snooping, IP Source Guard, and Dynamic ARP Inspection provide complementary traffic checks. Internal redundant power modules are unavailable; backup power uses an external RPS2300 system. Five fans include one redundant fan, so cooling redundancy does not imply internal power-supply redundancy.

Ordering

ORM Systems supplies SG550XG-24F-K9 in new sealed and certified refurbished condition. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed links on every port, clean boot, optics recognition, PSU status, and fan status; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. New units carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, certified refurbished units carry up to 1 year, and every condition includes 30-day returns, terms apply; Cisco coverage ended June 30, 2025. Specify condition, quantity, and required accessories on the PO; enterprise and volume orders can use PO acceptance, government Net-30, and RMA with advance replacement across UK, EU, US, and MEA operations.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Specify optics by fiber type

Fiber connections require compatible transceivers on the purchase order: SFP-10G-SR serves multimode fiber, while SFP-10G-LR serves single-mode fiber. Match the far-end optic and installed cabling before selecting quantities.

Reserve interfaces for stack links

Stacked installations reserve regular 10G interfaces for interconnects, reducing available endpoint connections. Specify supported direct-attach cables such as SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M, or SFP-H10GB-CU5M, accounting for their respective 1 m, 3 m, or 5 m lengths.

Best For

Regional Estate Replacement

An estate retaining the discontinued SG300-28SFP-K9-CN may require its China-region replacement, SG550XG-24F-K9-CN, to reconcile a legacy replacement request. The regional form matters when matching asset records to the purchase specification. Confirm the exact regional PID and existing connection plan before issuing the PO.

Configuration Standardization

A multi-site order needing repeatable configurations can use text-editable configuration files and SCP transfer rather than rebuilding every unit manually. Dual software images provide a separate staging consideration when maintaining a common release. Specify the approved image and configuration acceptance criteria with the batch order.

Traffic Capture Staging

An acceptance lab comparing replacement units against an existing monitoring setup can mirror up to eight source ports to one destination port. RSPAN also carries mirrored traffic across a Layer 2 domain. Specify capture interfaces, the analyzer connection, and monitoring acceptance checks before the PO.

Not Suitable If

PoE power for connected endpoints

SG550XG-24F-K9 does not supply endpoint power from its network ports. A deployment dependent on powered copper connections cannot use this switch as its PoE source.

Continued Cisco service coverage

Cisco service for SG550XG-24F-K9 ended June 30, 2025. C1300-24XS is the current migration endpoint, rather than either of the discontinued intermediate replacement models.

More than two copper data connections

SG550XG-24F-K9 offers only two copper data interfaces, each shared with SFP+. C1300-24XS provides four shared copper connections while retaining 24 SFP+ positions.

Questions & Answers

What does the SG550XG-24F-K9 part number identify?

SG550XG-24F-K9 identifies the 550X family's 24-port 10 Gigabit SFP+ configuration: 24 denotes the data-port count, and F corresponds to the fiber configuration. Two SFP+ positions share copper interfaces. Regional forms include SG550XG-24F-K9-NA for North America and SG550XG-24F-K9-CN for China.

How is SG550XG-24F-K9 managed?

SG550XG-24F-K9 supports browser management through HTTP/HTTPS, Textview CLI through console or SSH/Telnet, SNMP, Smart Network Application, FindIT Network Manager with embedded FindIT Network Probe, FindIT Network Discovery Utility, Active Advisor, and Network Plug and Play with PnP Connect. A dedicated Gigabit out-of-band management port separates administrative connectivity from data links.

Is SG550XG-24F-K9 discontinued?

SG550XG-24F-K9 is discontinued: sales ended June 18, 2020, and Cisco service ended June 30, 2025. Software maintenance ended June 18, 2021. Its replacement chain passes through discontinued SX550X-24F-K9-NA and CBS350-24XS-NA models before reaching C1300-24XS, the current migration endpoint for replacement purchases.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for SG550XG-24F-K9?

ORM Systems offers SG550XG-24F-K9 new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units. Returns are available for 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty and service ended June 30, 2025.

What older switch does SG550XG-24F-K9 replace?

SG550XG-24F-K9 replaces the discontinued SG300-28SFP-K9-CN through its China-region SG550XG-24F-K9-CN form. That replacement changes a 28-port Gigabit SFP configuration to a 24-port 10 Gigabit SFP+ configuration. Match the regional part number when reconciling existing asset records, because this predecessor relationship specifically names the China-region forms.

Which optics can the 24-port 10 Gigabit SFP+ switch use?

SG550XG-24F-K9 supports SFP-10G-SR for multimode fiber and SFP-10G-LR for single-mode fiber. SFP-10G-LR supports connections reaching 10 km, while SFP-10G-SR reach depends on the installed multimode fiber. Match the far-end interface, fiber type, and required distance, and include the selected optics separately on the purchase order.

How many members can a 550X hardware stack contain?

A 550X hardware stack supports eight members using standard 10G fiber or copper interfaces in ring or chain topologies. Compatible hybrid stacks can mix SF550X, SG550X, SG550XG, and SX550X models. Supported direct-attach choices include SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M, and SFP-H10GB-CU5M; reserve network interfaces for stack links when sizing endpoint capacity.

What routing capabilities does SG550XG-24F-K9 provide?

SG550XG-24F-K9 supports static IPv4 and IPv6 routing, RIP v2 dynamic IPv4 routing, VRRP, and PBR. IPv4 capacity reaches 7168 routes and 256 IP interfaces, while IPv6 static routing supports 1792 routes. Size routed interfaces and route entries separately when defining the network configuration and acceptance requirements.

Does the 550X fiber switch support redundant internal power supplies?

SG550XG-24F-K9 does not support redundant internal power supplies; power redundancy uses an external RPS2300 system alongside the internal AC supply. The chassis includes an RPS connector for that backup arrangement. An internal redundant power module is not an ordering option, so external backup hardware must be specified separately where required.

What is the difference between SG550XG-24F-K9 and SG550X-24P-K9-NA?

SG550X-24P-K9-NA supplies PoE+ with a 195W budget, whereas SG550XG-24F-K9 supplies no endpoint power. Both models are discontinued. The former addresses legacy powered-endpoint connections; the latter addresses fiber aggregation without power delivery. Buyers maintaining an installed estate should match power requirements to the existing endpoint design before selecting a spare.

What is the difference between SG550XG-24F-K9 and SG550XG-8F8T-K9-NA?

SG550XG-24F-K9 has 24 data ports, whereas SG550XG-8F8T-K9-NA has 16. Both are discontinued members of the 550X family. The higher count addresses legacy installations needing more termination points; the smaller configuration addresses lower-density requirements. A spare order should match the installed connection plan rather than relying on family membership alone.

What is the difference between SG550XG-24F-K9 and C1300-24XS?

C1300-24XS provides four shared 10G copper interfaces, compared with two on SG550XG-24F-K9, while both provide 24 SFP+ positions. SG550XG-24F-K9 has ended Cisco service, and C1300-24XS is its current migration endpoint. The older model addresses legacy replacement requirements; the newer model addresses purchases requiring a current hardware generation.
