DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 is a managed multiservice SAN switch supplied with 20 enabled Fibre Channel ports and 20 8G Fibre Channel SFPs. The fixed chassis contains 40 native 16G Fibre Channel ports, with the remaining 20 requiring additional port activation. Eight fixed 10G FCoE ports connect converged storage fabrics, while two fixed 1/10G Ethernet storage-services ports handle FCIP and iSCSI. The MDS 9250i Multiservice Fabric Switch combines these interfaces in a two-rack-unit chassis for departmental, remote branch-office and larger storage networks. The discontinued DS-C9250ID16GSFPK9 differs by including 20 16G Fibre Channel SFPs instead of the 8G optics supplied here. This bundle therefore identifies both the initial Fibre Channel activation level and the included optical speed; the chassis's native port capability does not make the supplied optics 16G.
DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 price for new stock is $104,360.76, a 50% saving from the Cisco list price of $208,721.52. DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 refurb price is $60,779.25. DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

740 Gbps switching capacity provides the hardware forwarding ceiling across the fixed storage interfaces. 425W worst-case AC consumption provides a power-planning allowance rather than the rating of an individual supply. 64 buffer-to-buffer credits per Fibre Channel port in shared mode support fabric flow control. FSPF-based multipathing distributes traffic across 16 equal-cost paths, while PortChannels aggregate 16 speed-matched physical inter-switch links. NX-OS runs on an integrated, nonremovable supervisor, with 4 GB of internal flash storage for software images. DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 supports CLI access through the serial console and Ethernet management connection, including SSHv2, alongside SNMPv3 monitoring. Cisco Prime DCNM and Cisco Device Manager provide graphical management paths for the MDS 9000 family. IPsec supplies authentication, integrity and hardware-assisted encryption for FCIP and iSCSI traffic. VRRP supports management and IP storage-services connections. These Ethernet interfaces serve storage networking; endpoint PoE is not provided.
ORM Systems offers DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 in new sealed and certified refurbished condition, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on certified refurbished units. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed port links, optics bay recognition, PSU status, fan status and clean boot; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. Specify the required condition and quantity on the purchase order; returns are available for 30 days in every condition, with terms applying. For enterprise and volume purchasing, POs are accepted, Net-30 is available for government, and RMA includes advance replacement across UK, EU, US and MEA regions.

When a replication project must connect separated SANs over an existing IP network, FCIP supplies the storage-extension mechanism. Each IP storage-services port supports six FCIP tunnels, so tunnel requirements need separate attention from physical connection counts. Before the PO, map remote fabrics, tunnel assignments and required Ethernet optics.
When separate storage fabrics must share one physical switch, VSANs provide hardware-enforced isolation while retaining independent fabric services. Each virtual fabric can have its own zoning and administrative boundaries rather than sharing one unrestricted storage environment. Before ordering, identify the required VSAN boundaries and assign responsibility for initiator-to-target zoning.
When a storage team needs to validate a fabric change before production deployment, Fibre Channel traceroute and SPAN provide path inspection and traffic capture. Captured traffic can be analyzed with Cisco Fabric Analyzer. Specify the staging topology, capture requirements and matching optical connections before adding the hardware to the PO.
32G native Fibre Channel connections
The MDS 9250i hardware stops at 16G Fibre Channel. Current DS-C9220I-12PIK9 supports 32G Fibre Channel, but provides 12 Fibre Channel ports in a smaller 1U chassis.
25G or 40G SAN extension
The fixed IP storage-services interfaces stop at 10G. Current DS-C9220I-12PIK9 includes 25G and 40G storage-services connectivity, with fewer Fibre Channel ports and a 1U chassis.
Continuing planned vulnerability fixes
Planned vulnerability and security support ended December 18, 2025. The current migration family is MDS 9220i; a hardware purchase does not restart the discontinued switch's security-support period.

DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 identifies the Cisco Direct MDS 9250i base-configuration bundle with 20 included 8G Fibre Channel SFPs. The 9250i portion identifies the model, while 8GSFP corresponds to the bundled optical speed. The configuration includes 20 enabled Fibre Channel ports, eight FCoE ports and two IP storage-services ports.
DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 supports the Cisco MDS CLI through its serial console or Ethernet connection, including SSHv2, plus Cisco Prime DCNM and Cisco Device Manager. Additional integration paths include SNMPv3, SMI-S and in-band IP over Fibre Channel. FICON CUP management is associated with the optional Mainframe software package.
DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 reached end of sale on December 19, 2023, and its last date of support is December 31, 2028. Planned software maintenance ended December 18, 2024, and vulnerability support ended December 18, 2025. Existing eligible service contracts remain subject to their terms; MDS 9220i is the migration family.
DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 is offered new sealed with up to a 3-year extended ORM warranty, or certified refurbished with up to 1 year. Returns are available for 30 days in either condition; terms apply. Cisco's separate 1-year limited hardware warranty does not extend past the last support date of December 31, 2028.
DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 includes SAN Extension over IP, while M9200ENT1K9 adds Enterprise features such as IVR. Additional Fibre Channel activation uses the discontinued traditional M9250IP20-16G= or Smart M9250IP20-16G-SL= licenses. Cisco DMM has a six-month M9250IDMMT6M option. Hardware condition and software entitlement must be handled separately on an ORM order.
DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 includes 20 enabled Fibre Channel ports and 20 8G Fibre Channel SFPs, although the chassis physically contains 40 native 16G Fibre Channel ports. Activating the other 20 requires additional port entitlement. Reaching 16G on an enabled connection also requires compatible 16G optics rather than the bundled 8G optics.
The MDS 9250i supports SFP-10G-SR, SFP-10G-LR and SFP-10G-ER on its 10G Ethernet ports. DS-SFP-GET provides a copper Gigabit Ethernet option only for the IP storage-services ports. Ethernet and Fibre Channel optics are not interchangeable choices; specify the port function, fiber type and required reach before ordering transceivers.
Yes, DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 has three DS-C50I-300AC power supplies in its default configuration, providing N+1 supply redundancy. With FCoE enabled, three online supplies are required to retain that redundancy. Supported two-supply redundant operation requires FCoE administratively down. Supply redundancy and redundancy between separate power grids are distinct configuration requirements.
The MDS 9250i provides FSPF-based Fibre Channel multipathing, while Inter-VSAN Routing requires the optional Enterprise package supplied through M9200ENT1K9. VRRP supports management and FCIP or iSCSI connections. These capabilities serve storage fabrics and their IP services; an Enterprise entitlement must be confirmed before specifying traffic between different VSANs.
DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 includes 20 8G Fibre Channel SFPs, whereas DS-C9250ID16GSFPK9 includes 20 16G Fibre Channel SFPs. Both are discontinued base-configuration bundles for the same MDS 9250i hardware. The 8G bundle matches legacy 8G optical connections; the 16G bundle matches connections requiring the chassis's native 16G Fibre Channel capability.
DS-C9250I-D12S-ENT includes an Enterprise license, whereas DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 requires Enterprise entitlement separately for features such as IVR. The Enterprise bundle has 12 active Fibre Channel ports; the 8G bundle starts with 20. Both are discontinued: the former addresses licensed Enterprise functionality, while the latter provides the larger initial Fibre Channel activation count.
DS-C9250ID8GSFPK9 starts with 20 enabled Fibre Channel ports, whereas current DS-C9220I-12PIK9 includes 12 enabled Fibre Channel ports. The older chassis can expand to 40 with additional activation; the replacement family stops at 12. The discontinued bundle serves higher-count legacy fabric requirements, while the current model serves SAN-extension migrations with fewer Fibre Channel connections.
Yes, the MDS 9250i mounts in a standard 19-inch equipment rack and occupies two rack units. The fully configured chassis weighs 10.2 kg and uses front-to-back airflow. Confirm rack depth, mounting hardware and airflow clearance before the PO rather than treating the compact storage switch as a desktop installation.
