ESW-540-8P-K9 is a fanless, managed Layer 2 desktop switch with eight Gigabit Ethernet PoE access ports and one fixed Gigabit combo uplink. The shared uplink accepts either a copper connection or an SFP-based fiber connection, with one medium active at a time. The Cisco ESW 500 Series serves small-business networks connecting IP phones, wireless access points, cameras and desktop devices. Unlike the discontinued ESW-520-8P-K9, which has a 60W PoE budget, this model provides a larger shared allocation for powered endpoints. Its compact chassis belongs to the Cisco Small Business Pro family rather than a full-width enterprise rack design.

18 Gbps switching capacity supports the Gigabit interfaces, while 13.4 Mpps forwarding performance is specified for 64-byte packets. A 123W shared PoE budget supplies compliant endpoints, subject to a 15.4W maximum on each powered port. STP, RSTP and MSTP provide spanning-tree operation, and LACP supports link aggregation. Four hardware queues handle traffic prioritization through priority queuing and weighted round-robin scheduling. ESW-540-8P-K9 supports browser-based configuration, Cisco Configuration Assistant and SNMP monitoring; configuration does not use an IOS CLI. The shared uplink cannot provide simultaneous copper and fiber connections.
ORM Systems offers ESW-540-8P-K9 new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year warranty; every condition includes 30-day returns, with terms applying. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, rated-speed links on every port, optics bay recognition and PoE output under load; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. Specify condition, quantity, adapter, power cord and required optics on the PO; Cisco's original 5-year limited hardware warranty was nontransferable, and Cisco support has ended. POs are accepted for enterprise and volume orders, with Net-30 for government, RMA with advance replacement, and regional stock and RMA coverage across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

When a replacement must match an installation standardized on an older firmware image, check the hardware revision before staging. ESW-540-8P-K9 units marked V02 cannot load firmware version 2.1.16 or earlier. Record the hardware revision and intended firmware version in the staging requirements before issuing the PO.
When replacing an installed compact unit, include its power components in the spare definition rather than specifying only the chassis. The eight-port Gigabit model uses an external 150W adapter delivering 48V DC. Specify the adapter and regional power cord with the switch, and confirm the required power components before the PO.
Endpoints requiring more than 15.4W
ESW-540-8P-K9 limits each powered port to 15.4W under IEEE 802.3af. An endpoint requiring more power from one port exceeds that limit.
10G uplinks to distribution
ESW-540-8P-K9 provides a fixed 1G combo uplink rather than a 10G interface. Its shared copper and fiber connection does not provide a 10G uplink option.

ESW-540-8P-K9 identifies a Gigabit Ethernet member of the ESW 500 family with eight PoE access ports and one combo expansion port. The 8 denotes the access-port count, while P denotes PoE. The expansion connection uses copper or an SFP, with only one medium active at a time.
The Cisco ESW 500 series is configured through its browser-based Switch Configuration Utility over HTTP or HTTPS, or through Cisco Configuration Assistant. SNMP versions 1, 2c and 3 provide monitoring and traps. These switches do not use a configuration CLI, so an IOS command-line configuration workflow is not supported.
ESW-540-8P-K9 belongs to the discontinued ESW 500 series, and Cisco support has ended. New sealed condition does not restore manufacturer support. For replacement-stock purchasing, distinguish the hardware's operating condition from its lifecycle status, and establish the supplier's replacement arrangements before authorizing the order.
ESW-540-8P-K9 provides a shared 123W PoE budget across eight powered access ports, with a 15.4W maximum per port under IEEE 802.3af. Endpoint selection must satisfy both limits. Add the planned device allocations before ordering rather than assuming every port can simultaneously deliver its maximum rating.
ESW-540-8P-K9 has one 1G combo uplink implemented as a shared RJ-45 connection and SFP slot. Copper and fiber are alternative media for that single uplink, not separate concurrent connections. For fiber, match the transceiver to the cable: MGBSX1 supports multimode fiber and MGBLX1 supports single-mode fiber.
The ESW 500 eight-port chassis measures 220 mm wide, 170 mm deep and 44 mm high. ESW-540-8P-K9 weighs 1.02 kg and uses fanless cooling. The narrow enclosure is a desktop-sized design rather than a full-width rack chassis; confirm the intended mounting arrangement and available space before ordering.
ESW-540-8P-K9 has a 123W PoE budget, compared with 60W on ESW-520-8P-K9. Both models have eight powered access ports, but their shared endpoint-power allocations differ. Both are discontinued; for an existing installation, match the spare to the required PoE allocation rather than choosing by port count alone.
ESW-540-8P-K9 uses an external AC adapter, whereas ESW-540-24P-K9 uses an internal AC supply. Both are discontinued. The adapter-powered model suits replacement of the existing compact power arrangement; the internal-supply model uses a different chassis layout, so confirm the installed unit's power connection before specifying a spare.
ESW-540-48-K9 provides 48 Gigabit access ports, while ESW-540-8P-K9 provides eight. Both are discontinued. An eight-port replacement suits the smaller installed endpoint group; a 48-port spare addresses the higher-density layout. Match the original port requirement before ordering instead of treating these two chassis sizes as interchangeable.
ORM offers ESW-540-8P-K9 new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year warranty. Every condition has 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco's original 5-year limited hardware warranty was nontransferable, and Cisco support has ended. ORM refurbishment includes inspection, bench testing, firmware verification and a factory-default configuration wipe.
