Line-rate forwarding across all ports and packet sizes supports traffic at the native interface speeds. OSPF, BGP, ISIS, EIGRP and RIP provide dynamic routing under Network Advantage; PBR, VRRP, HSRP and PIM-SM extend policy, gateway and multicast options. The IE3400 also supports REP, MRP, DLR and PRP for industrial redundancy, with one PRP instance supported on Gig1/1 through Gig1/4. IE-3400-8T2S-A carries 4 GB DRAM and 1.5 GB user-accessible flash for software operation and configuration storage. A 16000-entry MAC table and 256 VLANs bound switching scale, while eight queues provide traffic separation. Dual external DC inputs permit separate power feeds, and 36W consumption measured at 12V provides the base-switch allowance for power-source sizing. Two alarm inputs and one alarm output support external signaling. WebUI, CLI access and SNMP provide configuration and monitoring; NETCONF and RESTCONF support automated configuration workflows. When a cabinet build has competing devices and cable routes, reserve 50.8 mm clearance above, below, in front and along exposed sides of the IE3400 installation. Vertical installation is required. Confirm the cabinet layout, unrestricted airflow and access to power connections before specifying the mounting position on the purchase order.
When an industrial cell grows beyond the base connections, IEM-3300-16T= adds 16 Gigabit copper ports and creates a 26-port system. The attachment extends the existing switch rather than adding another standalone unit. Specify IEM-3300-16T=, its separate grounding provisions and the cabinet space needed before releasing the purchase order.
When spare equipment needs removable boot-image or configuration storage, SD-IE-16GB= provides an optional 16 GB SD card. SD-IE-16GB= is not included in the default configuration. Identify which staged units require removable storage, then include SD-IE-16GB= on each applicable bill of materials before placing the order.
PoE power for attached endpoints
IE-3400-8T2S-A does not supply endpoint power, and PoE expansion requires a PoE base. IE-3400-8P2S-A provides eight Gigabit PoE/PoE+ access ports instead.
10G fiber uplinks
IE-3400-8T2S-A has fixed 100/1000 SFP uplinks. Its supported fiber expansion connections are Gigabit interfaces, so additional fiber ports do not provide a 10G uplink path.
Sealed cabinet operation at 75°C
IE-3400-8T2S-A is limited to 60°C in a sealed enclosure. Operation at 75°C requires a fan- or blower-equipped enclosure meeting the required airflow.

IE-3400-8T2S-A identifies Catalyst IE3400 with eight Gigabit copper ports, two Gigabit SFP ports and Network Advantage. IE-3400 identifies the series; 8 is the copper-port count, T identifies copper interfaces, 2 is the SFP-port count, S identifies SFP interfaces, and -A identifies Network Advantage. The copper ports do not supply PoE.
IE-3400-8T2S-A supports WebUI, CLI through RJ-45 or USB console and SSH or Telnet, SNMP, CIP tools, Siemens STEP 7 or TIA Portal, and Cisco Catalyst Center. NETCONF and RESTCONF provide automation interfaces. Catalyst Center uses separately purchased management licensing; browser-based or CLI configuration does not require that optional management subscription.
IE-3400-8T2S-A includes perpetual Network Advantage, while Cisco DNA Essentials and Cisco DNA Advantage are optional management subscriptions with three-, five- or seven-year terms. The add-ons also appear as Catalyst Center Essentials and Advantage. The three-year minimum applies when an add-on is selected; the base network license has no expiration date.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst IE3400 Rugged. IE-3400-8T2S-A has no announced hardware end-of-sale milestone or named hardware successor. Lifecycle milestones for individual Cisco IOS XE releases are separate from the hardware lifecycle and should not be treated as a switch discontinuation date.

PBR, VRRP, HSRP and PIM-SM add policy, gateway redundancy and multicast functions; Network Essentials alone does not include the advanced dynamic-routing set.
IEM-3400-8T= and IEM-3400-8S= preserve SGT/SGACL on IE-3400-8T2S-A while adding eight Gigabit copper ports or eight SFP ports respectively. IEM-3300-16T= adds more copper connections but disables SGT/SGACL on the base switch. IEM-3400-8P= requires a PoE base and cannot be used with this non-PoE configuration.
IE-3400-8P2S-A supplies PoE/PoE+ on eight Gigabit copper ports, while IE-3400-8T2S-A supplies data only on its copper ports. Both configurations use Network Advantage. The non-PoE model suits endpoints with separate power; the powered model suits installations needing Ethernet-delivered endpoint power, with demand sized against its shared power budget.
IE-3400-8T2S-A includes Network Advantage, whereas IE-3400-8T2S-E includes Network Essentials on the same copper-and-SFP configuration. Network Advantage adds OSPF, BGP, ISIS, EIGRP and multicast routing beyond the Essentials static-routing features. Choose the Advantage configuration for those routed functions; the Essentials variant suits switching and static inter-VLAN routing without that advanced protocol set.
Yes, IE-3400-8T2S-A can operate at 75°C in a fan- or blower-equipped enclosure with at least 200 LFM airflow. A sealed enclosure is limited to 60°C. The switch itself is fanless, so cabinet cooling and the selected optics determine whether the highest temperature rating can be used.
Catalyst IE3400 Rugged mounts vertically on a DIN rail using its rear spring-loaded latch. IE-3400-8T2S-A is not a full-width rack chassis. Installation requires 50.8 mm clearance above, below, in front and along exposed sides, so the cabinet layout must accommodate airflow and accessible connections before mounting.
