Line-rate forwarding for all ports and packet sizes supports the 10-port base, while 16000 MAC addresses, 256 VLANs and 128 STP instances set the Layer 2 scale. IE-3400-8T2S-E provides 4 GB of DRAM, 1.5 GB of user-accessible flash and optional SD storage through SD-IE-16GB=. Static routing and inter-VLAN routing are available in the default tier; OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, RIP, EIGRP, PBR, VRRP, HSRP, PIM-SM and PIM-DM require Network Advantage. Industrial functions include REP, MRP, DLR, PRP on Gig1/1 through Gig1/4, PTP, CIP Ethernet/IP and PROFINET. A control cabinet moving from Fast Ethernet to Gigabit access can use the rugged 8-port copper base with 2 SFP uplinks and a sealed-enclosure temperature rating of -40°C to 60°C. Specify fiber reach, external DC power and any DIN rail rack kit before the PO.
A machine cell that may outgrow 10 base ports can reserve the expansion slot for IEM-3400-8T=, IEM-3400-8S=, IEM-3300-16T= or IEM-3300-14T2S=. Check the required mix of copper and SFP expansion ports before ordering the switch and module.
An OT ring using REP, MRP, DLR or PRP can standardize on the Network Essentials base while keeping static routing at the edge. Confirm whether PRP must use Gig1/1 through Gig1/4 and whether dynamic routing will require a Network Advantage license.
Powered endpoint ports
IE-3400-8T2S-E has no PoE budget or powered copper ports. Use IE-3400-8P2S-E for 8 GE PoE/PoE+ copper ports and a 240W base PoE budget.
Default dynamic routing
Network Essentials provides static routing only. Use IE-3400-8T2S-A or add IE3400-NW-A= when OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, RIP, EIGRP, PBR or VRRP is required.
Full-width rack mounting
The chassis is a 91 mm DIN-rail switch, not a full-width rack switch. Use STK-RACK-DINRAIL= only when a 19-inch DIN rail mount kit fits the cabinet design.
10G fiber uplinks
The fixed uplinks are 100/1000 SFP ports, not SFP+ ports. This base system is not the right order when distribution links must negotiate at 10G.

IE-3400-8T2S-E identifies a Catalyst IE3400 rugged modular switch with 8 GE copper ports, 2 GE SFP ports and Network Essentials. The 8T portion maps to the copper access ports, 2S maps to the SFP ports, and E maps to the Network Essentials license.
IE-3400-8T2S-E is managed with WebUI, Cisco Catalyst Center, SNMP, SSH, Telnet, syslog and local console access through RS-232 or USB Mini Type B. Network Essentials also supports NETCONF, RESTCONF and YANG for automation. There is no dashboard-only management model for this industrial switch.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst IE3400 Rugged. IE-3400-8T2S-E remains in the available-order Rugged family, while individual IOS XE releases have their own retirement dates. Cisco hardware support end dates are therefore not published for this PID.
IE-3400-8T2S-E is available from ORM Systems new sealed or certified refurbished. Cisco states a five-year limited hardware warranty for IE3400 product IDs; ORM offers up to 3-year extended warranty on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns with terms applying.
IE-3400-8T2S-E ships with perpetual Network Essentials. IE3400-NW-A= upgrades the switch to Network Advantage. Cisco Catalyst Center Essentials uses IE3400-DNA-E and Cisco Catalyst Center Advantage uses IE3400-DNA-A; the term PIDs start at 3 years, and Catalyst Center Advantage requires Network Advantage.
IE-3400-8T2S-E replaces IE-2000U-16TC-G and IE-2000U-8TC-G in the IE2000U migration. The older models reached end of sale on July 26 2024 and have a last date of support of July 31 2029. The replacement changes the access ports to 8 GE copper and 2 GE SFP.
IE-3400-8T2S-E has 10 total Gigabit ports: 8 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper ports and 2 100/1000 SFP ports. The SFP ports are fixed uplinks, not combo ports, so a fiber transceiver selection determines reach, fiber type and temperature rating.
IE-3400-8T2S-E does not support PoE. The copper ports are non-PoE Gigabit Ethernet ports, and the PoE budget is not applicable to this PID. Use IE-3400-8P2S-E when the same IE3400 Rugged base needs 8 GE PoE/PoE+ copper ports.
The Catalyst IE3400 Rugged non-PoE base accepts IEM-3400-8T=, IEM-3400-8S=, IEM-3300-8T=, IEM-3300-8S=, IEM-3300-16T=, IEM-3300-6T2S= and IEM-3300-14T2S=. PoE expansion modules are restricted to PoE base switches, so they are not the correct expansion order for this non-PoE base.
IE-3400-8T2S-E uses dual DC power inputs with a 9.6-60V DC input range and 36W power consumption. For AC-fed cabinets, DIN rail power supply options include PWR-IE50W-AC=, PWR-IE50W-AC-IEC= and PWR-IE50W-AC-L=. Two external supplies are needed for input redundancy.
IE-3400-8T2S-E does not run OSPF or BGP with its default Network Essentials license. Network Essentials provides inter-VLAN routing and static routing. OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, RIP, EIGRP, PBR, VRRP, HSRP, PIM-SM and PIM-DM require Network Advantage.
Catalyst IE3400 Rugged is a DIN-rail switch, and IE-3400-8T2S-E is 91 mm wide rather than a full-width rack unit. STK-RACK-DINRAIL= is the 19-inch DIN rail mount kit when the deployment needs a rack-mounted DIN rail rather than a native 1U switch.
IE-3400-8P2S-E adds 8 GE PoE/PoE+ copper ports and a 240W base PoE budget, while IE-3400-8T2S-E has 8 non-PoE GE copper ports. Both carry 2 GE SFP ports and Network Essentials; choose IE-3400-8P2S-E for powered endpoints and IE-3400-8T2S-E for non-PoE industrial access.
IE-3400-8T2S-A ships with Network Advantage, while IE-3400-8T2S-E ships with Network Essentials. The hardware port layout remains 8 GE copper and 2 GE SFP. Choose IE-3400-8T2S-A when dynamic routing protocols or Network Advantage security features are required at order time.
