IE-3400H-16FT-E provides 4 GB of DRAM and 1.5 GB of user-accessible flash for software operation and local storage. The IE3400 feature set pairs LACP with RSTP/MSTP for link aggregation and loop control, and REP, MRP, and DLR address industrial ring operation. An installed network using the discontinued IE-2000-16T67-B needs a replacement plan following the end of Cisco support on March 31, 2026. Existing equipment inventories should distinguish the switch being replaced from the replacement being ordered. Specify configuration requirements and the intended support arrangement before releasing the refresh PO.
An exposed machine-side installation needs clearance for sealed connectors and heat dissipation, not just space for the enclosure. Reserve 50.8 mm around the top, bottom, sides, and front, and locate power and alarm connections within reach. Check bracket support, connector access, and cable routing before the PO.
A staged deployment requiring console access needs the correct console lead rather than a standard network patch cable. CAB-CONSOLE-M12= connects the M12 console interface to DB9F equipment, and the serial session runs at 9600 baud. Include terminal compatibility and the required console lead in the staging PO.

IE-3400H-16FT-E is limited to Fast Ethernet on D-coded M12 interfaces. IE-3400H-16T-E provides Gigabit Ethernet through X-coded M12 connectors, so the speed upgrade also changes the required cabling.
Dynamic routing with the included license
Network Essentials supplies static routing, not OSPF or EIGRP. IE-3400H-16FT-A includes Network Advantage for dynamic routing while retaining the same Fast Ethernet M12 interface arrangement.
75°C operation without external airflow
IE-3400H-16FT-E is rated only to 60°C without airflow; reaching 75°C requires external airflow. Product safety certifications do not cover operation above 60°C, so qualify the enclosure conditions before ordering.

IE-3400H-16FT-E identifies a Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty switch: IE-3400H names the series, 16 specifies the interface count, FT identifies Fast Ethernet connectivity, and E identifies Network Essentials. The complete configuration uses M12 interfaces with IP67 protection. The Ethernet connections are D-coded rather than the X-coded connections used on Gigabit variants.
IE-3400H-16FT-E supports WebUI, CLI through the M12 console or SSH/Telnet, Cisco Catalyst Center, Industrial Network Director, SNMP, CIP management objects, and NETCONF/RESTCONF APIs. Local serial configuration requires CAB-CONSOLE-M12=. Select the intended local or centralized management method before defining configuration access, management credentials, and any separately purchased Catalyst Center subscription.
Cisco has not announced an end-of-sale date for Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty. Hardware lifecycle status is separate from retirement dates for individual Cisco IOS XE releases and optional accessories. For a long deployment, specify the intended software release and support arrangement rather than treating a software retirement announcement as a chassis retirement.
ORM Systems offers IE-3400H-16FT-E new sealed or certified refurbished: new orders carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, while certified refurbished orders carry up to 1 year. Returns are available for 30 days in either condition; terms apply. Cisco separately provides a 5-year limited hardware warranty under its own warranty terms.
IE-3400H-16FT-E includes perpetual Network Essentials; IE3400H-NW-A= upgrades the network tier to perpetual Network Advantage. IE-3400H-16FT-A includes Network Advantage, while IE-3400H-16FT-E includes Network Essentials. Both models use 16 Fast Ethernet M12 interfaces. The A model enables dynamic routing such as OSPF and EIGRP; the E model suits installations requiring Layer 2 switching and static routing without purchasing the higher network tier.
IE-3400H-16T-E provides 16 Gigabit Ethernet X-coded M12 ports, whereas IE-3400H-16FT-E provides 16 Fast Ethernet D-coded M12 ports. The connector coding differs, so existing D-coded leads are not interchangeable with X-coded connections. Select the FT model for Fast Ethernet connections; select the T model when Gigabit links and X-coded cabling are required.

IE-3400H-16FT-E needs four-pin M12 D-coded Ethernet cables rather than direct RJ-45 plugs. M12-to-RJ-45 leads connect conventional equipment to the sealed Ethernet interfaces. Cable runs to an attached device must not exceed 100 m, and unused connectors need their supplied dust caps to maintain the enclosure's ingress protection.
