Fanless Connectivity for Small Business Office Networks

SG100-24 is a fanless Layer 2 switch with 22 dedicated Gigabit copper ports and two fixed Gigabit combo connections shared between copper and SFP interfaces. Its full-width rack-mount chassis belongs to the Cisco 100 Series Unmanaged Switches range and connects computers, printers and other office equipment without configuration. Each combo connection uses one physical medium at a time, so fiber replaces the corresponding copper connection rather than adding another independent port. The 24-port Gigabit switch provides data-only connectivity for separately powered equipment. Unlike the discontinued SG100D-08P, this model does not supply PoE to attached endpoints. The buying distinction is physical connectivity without configurable network policies or endpoint power delivery.

Technical Details

48 Gbps switching capacity supports traffic across the available connections, while 35.7 Mpps forwarding describes packet handling at a 64-byte packet size. Priority queuing and weighted round-robin scheduling distribute traffic across four hardware queues, using 802.1p priority markings to distinguish traffic classes. SG100-24 uses store-and-forward switching to identify damaged packets before forwarding them onward. Automatic speed negotiation accommodates attached Ethernet devices operating at different supported rates, and automatic MDI/MDI-X detection accommodates straight-through or crossover cabling. Energy Efficient Ethernet places an active link into a sleep state during quiet periods to reduce energy consumption. Head-of-line blocking prevention addresses traffic waiting behind a busy destination. The internal universal supply accepts 100–240V AC at 50–60Hz, allowing direct connection to an appropriate local AC outlet. Faster upstream connectivity cannot be enabled by substituting different optics: the fixed interfaces remain Gigabit Ethernet.

Ordering

ORM Systems supplies SG100-24 in new sealed and certified refurbished condition, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns on both conditions; terms apply. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, every port linking at rated speed, optics bay recognition and internal PSU status. Specify the required condition and quantity on your purchase order; Cisco hardware service for this retired model has ended. For enterprise and volume purchases, POs are accepted, government buyers receive Net-30, and RMA with advance replacement is available.

Buying Notes

Optics require separate ordering

Fiber connections require separate transceivers: SG100-24 accepts MGBSX1 or MGBLX1. Select the transceiver against the existing link and include compatible cabling on the purchase order rather than assuming optics accompany the chassis.

Best For

Jumbo Frame Staging

A test bench that exercises large Ethernet frames needs consistent frame-size support across its devices. The switch supports 9216-byte jumbo frames, but the complete traffic path still depends on the connected equipment. Check the endpoints and upstream connection against the planned test frame size before placing the order.

Regional Spare Allocation

A maintenance purchase covering four regions needs destination-specific stock and RMA handling rather than a single undifferentiated shipment. ORM supports UK, EU, US and MEA requirements. Keep the required condition and quantity explicit for each destination, and confirm the regional allocation before issuing the purchase order.

Not Suitable If

Power delivery to Ethernet endpoints

SG100-24 does not supply PoE. Connected phones, access points or cameras need separate power, so an installation requiring switch-delivered endpoint power needs different switching hardware.

10G links to upstream equipment

SG100-24 limits its fixed connections to Gigabit Ethernet. Faster upstream links require different switching hardware rather than different optical transceivers in this model.

Questions & Answers

What does the SG100-24 part number mean?

SG100-24 identifies a 100 Series unmanaged Gigabit switch with 24 connections, including two combo mini-GBIC connections. The SG100 portion identifies this Gigabit switch family, while 24 gives the connection total. The complete part number has no additional suffix; the combo connections share their copper and fiber interfaces.

How is SG100-24 managed?

SG100-24 operates without configuration: connect power and network cables, and the switch begins forwarding traffic automatically. Port speed and duplex negotiate with the attached equipment, while automatic cable detection handles the connection type. The operating model is plug-and-play switching rather than administrator-defined settings or ongoing configuration tasks.

What is the lifecycle status of SG100-24?

SG100-24 is retired, and Cisco support for the 100 Series Unmanaged Switches has ended. CBS110-24T is the migration replacement. A purchase of the legacy model should therefore be treated as a spare or replacement order, not as a purchase carrying active Cisco hardware service coverage.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for SG100-24?

ORM Systems offers SG100-24 new sealed or certified refurbished: new units carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, and certified refurbished units carry up to 1 year. Returns are 30 days for either condition; terms apply. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty, with 1 year for the power supply, has ended with Cisco service.

How many copper and fiber connections does SG100-24 support?

SG100-24 supports 24 active connections: 22 dedicated copper ports and two combo connections that each offer copper or SFP. Each combo connection activates only one medium at a time. The two SFP cages are shared connections, not additional independent ports beyond the stated connection total.

Which optical transceivers can the 24-port Gigabit switch use?

SG100-24 accepts MGBSX1 and MGBLX1 optical transceivers in its combo SFP interfaces. MGBSX1 is a Gigabit SX option, while MGBLX1 is a 1000BASE-LX option. Transceivers are separate purchase items; select the part against the intended fiber link and remember that each populated cage shares its connection with copper.

What switching performance does SG100-24 provide?

SG100-24 provides 48 Gbps switching capacity and 35.7 Mpps forwarding at a 64-byte packet size. These figures describe switching throughput and packet forwarding, not an uplink faster than Gigabit Ethernet. The fixed external connections remain Gigabit, so an upstream link must be sized around that speed.

Does the 100 Series SG100-24 supply PoE?

SG100-24 does not provide PoE; its Ethernet connections carry data without powering attached endpoints. Phones, wireless access points and cameras connected to this model need their own power arrangement. Include endpoint power in the bill of materials instead of treating the switch as an Ethernet power source.

What power input does the 24-port Gigabit switch require?

SG100-24 takes 100–240V AC through its internal universal power supply, with a 50–60Hz input frequency. The unit connects directly to AC rather than using an external power adapter. Match the power cord to the installation location, and specify the required regional cord with the order.

What is the difference between SG100-24 and SG100D-08P?

SG100D-08P provides PoE on four ports, while SG100-24 provides no endpoint power. Both belong to the retired 100 Series. The former served purchases needing powered connections; the latter serves data-only replacement requirements where attached equipment has separate power. Neither model represents a current Cisco-supported purchase.

What is the difference between SG100-24 and SG100-16?

SG100-24 offers 24 connections, while SG100-16 offers 16 Gigabit Ethernet connections. Both are retired 100 Series models. The larger model addresses legacy replacements requiring the higher connection count; the smaller model addresses an existing 16-connection installation. Neither choice changes the ended Cisco support status of the series.

What is the difference between SG100-24 and CBS110-24T?

SG100-24 is a retired 100 Series model, while CBS110-24T is its current migration replacement in the Cisco Business range. Both address unmanaged Gigabit connectivity. The legacy model serves like-for-like spares purchases; CBS110-24T is the model to specify when moving the purchase to the replacement range.
