Shared Endpoint Power for Small Business Networks

SG250-50P-K9 is a smart-managed Layer 2+ access switch with 48 Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ ports and two fixed Gigabit copper/SFP combo uplinks. Each combo connection uses either its copper connector or its fiber slot, allowing the uplink medium to match the installed cabling without adding an uplink card. The full-width 1U chassis belongs to the Cisco 250 Series Smart Switches range for small-business networks. PoE supports compatible IP phones, wireless access points, and surveillance cameras over their Ethernet connections. The discontinued SG250-50HP-K9-NA retains the same access-port density but reduces the endpoint-power budget to 192W.

SG250-50P-K9 price for new stock is $145.95, a 93.5% saving from the Cisco list price of $2,232.45. SG250-50P-K9 refurb price is $693.82. SG250-50P-K9 is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

100 Gbps switching capacity supports wire-speed, nonblocking traffic handling across the available connections. 74.41 Mpps forwarding at 64-byte packet size provides a packet-rate limit for traffic sizing. 375W of shared PoE power requires aggregate endpoint planning; the 30W per-port ceiling does not mean every powered port can deliver that amount simultaneously. Static IPv4 routing supports 32 routes for bounded inter-subnet connectivity. SG250-50P-K9 uses 512 MB of memory and 256 MB of flash, while its 24 Mb packet buffer is shared dynamically across traffic. Browser administration supports HTTP/HTTPS, and the scriptable Textview CLI supports remote command-line administration. SNMP v3 enables authenticated monitoring, while STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP provide loop control and link aggregation. Voice VLAN assignment places phone traffic into a dedicated VLAN with appropriate QoS treatment. The SG250-50P hardware uses four fans and is not fanless. The 481.9W worst-case draw at 110V provides a load figure for AC circuit and UPS planning.

Ordering

ORM Systems offers SG250-50P-K9 in new sealed and certified refurbished condition; new orders carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, certified refurbished orders carry up to 1 year, and every condition has 30-day returns, terms apply. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, rated-speed links on every port, and PoE output under load on every powered port; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. Specify the condition, regional power cord, mounting hardware, and any optics on the purchase order. Enterprise and volume orders can use PO acceptance, government Net-30, and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA across the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Migration beyond the intermediate replacement

SG250-50P-K9 migration planning should target C1200-48P-4G rather than discontinued CBS250-48P-4G-NA. The intermediate replacement reached end of sale on October 29, 2024, so it is not the current destination.

Fiber optics ordered separately

SG250-50P-K9 fiber connections require separately ordered Gigabit transceivers, such as MGBSX1 for multimode fiber or MGBLX1 for single-mode fiber. Specify the fiber type and link distance before adding optics to the order.

Best For

Workgroup Segmentation

When separating workgroups at a small-business site, plan the IP interface count independently from the VLAN count. The switch supports 16 IP interfaces and 255 active VLANs, so assigning a routed interface to every VLAN can exceed its interface ceiling. Specify the VLAN-to-subnet mapping before the purchase order.

Multi-Site Configuration Standardization

When several sites need a common configuration, text-editable configuration files and SCP autoconfiguration support a repeatable provisioning process. Cisco Network Plug and Play also supports centralized provisioning. Separate shared settings from site-specific addressing and credentials, then specify the configuration-delivery method and staging requirements before placing the order.

Lab And Staging

When validating a replacement before installation, dual firmware images allow image preparation, while the front-panel USB Type-A connection supports file transfer. Port mirroring can send traffic from four source ports to one destination. Specify the intended firmware image, configuration file, and traffic-validation connections before ordering the staging unit.

Not Suitable If

10G uplinks to distribution

SG250-50P-K9 has fixed 1G combo uplinks and no 10G uplink slots. C1200-48P-4X provides 48 Gigabit PoE access ports with four 10G SFP+ uplinks.

30W on every powered port

SG250-50P-K9 limits aggregate endpoint power to 375W even though individual ports support 30W. Simultaneous 30W service on all 48 powered ports exceeds that shared allocation.

Ongoing Cisco software maintenance

SG250-50P-K9 stopped receiving software maintenance releases on October 30, 2022, and applicable support ends October 31, 2026. The current migration destination is C1200-48P-4G.

Questions & Answers

What does the SG250-50P-K9 part number mean?

SG250-50P-K9 is the Gigabit 250 Series PoE+ smart switch with 48 access ports and two combo uplinks. SG250 identifies the Gigabit family, 50 counts the active network ports, and P identifies PoE+. K9 remains part of the base ordering code; SG250-50P-K9-NA is the United States regional form.

How are Cisco 250 Series Smart Switches managed?

Cisco 250 Series Smart Switches support an HTTP/HTTPS web interface, Textview CLI over SSH or Telnet, SNMP, Smart Network Application, FindIT Network Manager with an embedded FindIT Network Probe, and Cisco Active Advisor. The CLI offers full and menu-based modes; the web interface offers basic and advanced administration.

Is SG250-50P-K9 discontinued?

SG250-50P-K9 is discontinued: Cisco ended sales on October 30, 2021, and applicable service and support end October 31, 2026. Software maintenance ended October 30, 2022. The original replacement, CBS250-48P-4G-NA, is also discontinued; the current migration destination is C1200-48P-4G.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for SG250-50P-K9?

ORM Systems offers SG250-50P-K9 new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Returns are available for 30 days on either condition; terms apply. Cisco's separate limited lifetime hardware warranty and applicable service end October 31, 2026.

How much PoE power does SG250-50P-K9 provide?

SG250-50P-K9 provides a shared 375W PoE budget across 48 powered ports, with a 30W maximum on an individual powered port. The budget is allocated among connected endpoints, so full per-port power is not available everywhere simultaneously. Size the combined endpoint demand rather than multiplying the port count by the port maximum.

What uplinks and fiber optics does SG250-50P-K9 support?

SG250-50P-K9 provides two 1G copper/SFP combo uplinks, with either copper or fiber active on each pair. These are shared connections, not four independent uplinks. MGBSX1 supports multimode fiber and MGBLX1 supports single-mode fiber; specify compatible optics separately for the selected fiber connection.

Can SG250-50P-K9 route between VLANs?

SG250-50P-K9 supports static IPv4 routing with 32 routes and 16 IP interfaces, making it Layer 2+ rather than a dynamically routed access switch. The series also supports 255 active VLANs. VLAN capacity and routed-interface capacity are different limits, so an inter-VLAN design needs an explicit interface and route count before ordering.

What is the difference between SG250-50P-K9 and SG250-50HP-K9-NA?

SG250-50P-K9 supplies 375W of shared PoE power, where SG250-50HP-K9-NA provides 192W with the same 48 powered Gigabit access ports. Both models are discontinued. The higher-budget model suits existing installations with greater aggregate endpoint demand; the HP variant fits lower-load replacement requirements where 192W covers the connected devices.

What is the difference between SG250-50P-K9 and SG250-26P-K9-NA?

SG250-50P-K9 has 48 Gigabit PoE+ access ports, while SG250-26P-K9-NA has 24; each also has two Gigabit combo uplinks. Both are discontinued. For existing-network replacements, the larger model serves closets needing more copper connections, while the smaller model serves locations with fewer endpoint cables.

What is the difference between SG250-50P-K9 and C1200-48P-4G?

C1200-48P-4G provides four dedicated 1G SFP uplinks, while SG250-50P-K9 provides two 1G copper/SFP combo uplinks. Both have 48 Gigabit powered access ports. The discontinued SG250-50P-K9 serves existing-installation continuity; C1200-48P-4G is the current migration destination for buyers wanting four fiber uplinks without shared copper connections.

Which older switches does SG250-50P-K9 replace?

SG250-50P-K9 replaces the discontinued SG200-50FP-AU, SG200-50FP-EU, SG200-50FP-NA, and SG200-50FP-UK through their corresponding regional ordering forms. For example, SG200-50FP-NA maps to SG250-50P-K9-NA. Both generations are discontinued, so retaining this model for continuity is different from choosing a current-generation refresh.

Does the SG250-50P support redundant power supplies?

The SG250-50P uses an internal universal AC power supply accepting 100–240V AC, with no redundant supply option. A second internal supply cannot be added to increase the PoE budget. Include the correct regional power cord in the order and plan upstream power protection separately.

Is the SG250-50P a rack-mount or desktop switch?

The SG250-50P is a full-width rack-mount switch with a 1U chassis, measuring 440 mm wide, 44 mm high, and 350 mm deep. Its weight is 4.82 kg. A mounting kit is included with the original package; confirm mounting hardware when specifying the order condition.
