Fanless Access Connectivity for Small Business Networks

SG350-28-K9-UK is a fanless, managed Layer 2+ Gigabit Ethernet switch with 24 copper access ports and four fixed 1G uplink positions. Two uplinks are dedicated SFP slots; the other two are copper/SFP combo ports with one medium active per pair. The non-PoE access ports connect independently powered computers, printers and other office equipment in a full-width 1U rack chassis. Part of the Cisco 350 Series Managed Switches range, the configuration provides managed connectivity for small-business wired networks. The discontinued SG350-28P-K9-UK differs by adding PoE+ endpoint power. The fixed layout requires no removable uplink card to complete the chassis, while the combo connections accommodate either copper or fiber cabling. Cisco Small Business positioning places this model in office switching estates where the required connection arrangement is already defined.

Technical Details

56 Gbps switching capacity supports forwarding across the installed interfaces, and 41.66 Mpps forwarding handles 64-byte packets. Static IPv4 routing supports 990 routes and 128 IP interfaces for planned inter-VLAN gateways; IPv6 routing is also available. Route changes remain part of the configuration workflow rather than a dynamic routing exchange. SG350-28-K9-UK carries 512 MB of DRAM for control software and 256 MB of flash for stored images and configuration files. A 1.5 MB packet buffer is dynamically shared across the ports. The MAC table holds 16000 addresses, while segmentation extends to 4094 simultaneous VLANs. STP, RSTP and MSTP provide loop-control choices, and LACP supports grouped links where the connection design requires them. Browser configuration, Textview CLI and SNMP provide management access. The internal AC input accommodates 100–240V service; 19.9W maximum consumption supplies the chassis figure for rack power planning without an endpoint-power allocation to add.

Ordering

SG350-28-K9-UK is offered new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units; Cisco's separate limited lifetime coverage is bounded by service ending October 31, 2026. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, clean boot and optics bay recognition, with firmware verified and configurations wiped to factory default. Specify the required condition and included accessories on the purchase order; returns are available for 30 days in every condition, with terms applying. Enterprise and volume orders accept POs, include Net-30 for government and support RMA with advance replacement.

Best For

Legacy Replacement Orders

An existing SRW2024-K9-UK installation creates a replacement-order requirement for the same legacy switching environment. SG350-28-K9-UK is its named replacement, but configuration transfer belongs in the staging scope rather than being assumed from matching port counts. Specify the required condition and a reviewed configuration plan before issuing the replacement PO.

Multi-Site Configuration Staging

A multi-site rollout with repeatable settings can use text-editable configuration files and SCP autoconfiguration to prepare units consistently. Site-specific addressing and credentials need separate handling from the shared configuration template. Include the approved image, file-transfer method and credential-handling requirements in the staging scope before releasing the switches on the PO.

Traffic Observation Bench

A staging bench that needs to observe endpoint traffic can use the single port-mirroring session, with eight source ports feeding one destination port. Reserve the analyzer connection separately from the endpoint connections under test. Confirm the mirrored-port selection and the acceptance-test scope before ordering the lab unit.

Not Suitable If

PoE power for connected endpoints

The access ports do not deliver PoE. C1300-24P-4G is the current PoE migration option for the related powered model, retaining 24 Gigabit access ports.

10G uplinks to distribution

The fixed uplinks operate at 1G and cannot accept an uplink expansion card. C1300-24T-4X provides 24 Gigabit access ports with four 10G SFP+ uplinks.

More than 990 static routes

The switch supports 990 IPv4 static routes and 128 IP interfaces. Designs exceeding either limit require a different routing device sized for the proposed addressing plan.

Questions & Answers

What does the SG350-28-K9-UK part number mean?

SG350-28-K9-UK is the regional ordering identifier for a 28-port Gigabit managed switch. SG350 identifies the Gigabit model in the 350 Series; 28 covers 24 access ports and four uplink positions. UK selects the United Kingdom ordering region and several additional markets; K9 remains part of the complete identifier.

How is the Cisco 350 Series managed?

The Cisco 350 Series supports web configuration over HTTP/HTTPS, Textview CLI through console, SSH or Telnet, SNMP and Smart Network Application. Network-level management includes FindIT Network Manager, now replaced by Cisco Business Dashboard. Cisco Active Advisor is a legacy cloud integration; the chosen management workflow determines how configurations are staged.

Is SG350-28-K9-UK end of sale?

SG350-28-K9-UK reached end of sale on October 30, 2021, and its last date of Cisco support is October 31, 2026. Its first replacement, CBS350-24T-4G-UK, is also discontinued. The current successor at the end of that migration chain is C1300-24T-4G, which is the model relevant to ongoing migration planning.

What conditions and warranties does ORM Systems offer for SG350-28-K9-UK?

ORM Systems offers SG350-28-K9-UK new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns are available for 30 days in every condition; terms apply. Cisco's separate limited lifetime warranty is bounded by service ending October 31, 2026.

Which older switch does SG350-28-K9-UK replace?

SG350-28-K9-UK replaces SRW2024-K9-UK, the SG300-28 28-port Gigabit managed switch. The predecessor belongs to the earlier 300 Series, so matching the port count does not establish configuration compatibility. A replacement order retains both full identifiers for inventory matching and includes configuration staging rather than relying on the older marketing name alone.

Does SG350-28-K9-UK power phones or wireless access points?

No, SG350-28-K9-UK does not supply PoE through its access ports. Phones, access points and cameras therefore need their own power source when connected to this model. Endpoint power remains a separate requirement on the PO because Gigabit connectivity alone does not establish that a Cisco 350 Series switch supplies PoE.

Which optics fit the Cisco 350 Series Gigabit uplinks?

Cisco 350 Series Gigabit uplinks accept MGBSX1, MGBLX1, MGBLH1, MGBT1, GLC-LH-SMD and GLC-BX-U. MGBSX1 supports multimode fiber to 500 m; MGBLX1 supports single-mode fiber to 10 km. The selected transceiver PID depends on the cable medium and required distance, with the fiber termination matched to the optical connection.

Can SG350-28-K9-UK route between VLANs?

Yes, SG350-28-K9-UK supports static IPv4 routing between VLANs, with 990 static routes and 128 IP interfaces. IPv6 routing is also available. An inter-VLAN gateway design therefore allocates static entries and interfaces explicitly rather than relying on automatic route exchange through a dynamic routing protocol.

What power supply does SG350-28-K9-UK use?

SG350-28-K9-UK uses an internal universal AC power supply accepting 100–240V at 50–60 Hz. The fixed supply has no second internal PSU option. The regional mains lead belongs in the supply scope; an external desktop adapter is not the correct power source for this model.

What is the difference between SG350-28-K9-UK and SG350-28P-K9-UK?

SG350-28P-K9-UK adds PoE+ on 24 access ports and a 195W shared power budget, while SG350-28-K9-UK supplies data connectivity without PoE. Both models are discontinued. The non-PoE model fits independently powered endpoints; the powered model addresses legacy installations requiring network-delivered endpoint power with an explicitly sized shared budget.

What is the difference between SG350-28-K9-UK and SG350-10-K9-UK?

SG350-10-K9-UK uses an external AC adapter, whereas SG350-28-K9-UK has an internal AC supply. Both are discontinued members of the Cisco 350 Series. The external-adapter model suits legacy orders retaining a separate power unit; the internal-supply model suits installed-base spares where the mains lead connects directly to the chassis.

What is the difference between SG350-28-K9-UK and C1300-24T-4G?

C1300-24T-4G provides four dedicated 1G SFP uplinks, while SG350-28-K9-UK provides two dedicated 1G SFP uplinks plus two shared copper/SFP combo uplinks. The older switch fits legacy orders retaining the existing combo-port arrangement; C1300-24T-4G is the current migration model for buyers specifying separate fiber uplink positions.
