SG500-28 is a fanless, managed Layer 2+ switch with 24 Gigabit Ethernet access ports and fixed uplink connectivity for small-business networks. Two Combo interfaces offer copper or fiber connectivity, while two additional SFP interfaces provide Gigabit network links or 5G stacking connections. The 1U chassis belongs to the Cisco 500 Series Stackable Managed Switches and does not supply endpoint power. Connected devices therefore require independent power. The discontinued SG500-28P differs by providing PoE+ for powered endpoints. This 24-port Gigabit managed switch uses built-in interfaces rather than a removable uplink card, with copper and fiber connections selected to match the remote equipment.

SG500-28 identifies a Gigabit 500 Series model with 28 network interfaces: 24 access ports and four uplink or stacking interfaces. SG500 names the Gigabit series; -28 identifies the total configuration. The non-PoE model's full ordering identifier is SG500-28-K9, with two shared copper/fiber Combo interfaces.
SG500-28 supports an HTTP/HTTPS web UI, console CLI, SSH, Telnet and SNMP v1/v2c/v3 management. Textview CLI includes full and menu-based command interfaces, and the embedded software also supports Cisco OnPlus integration. Specify the management connection and authentication settings during staging rather than treating the unit as unmanaged hardware.
