SG500-52 provides 48 dedicated Gigabit copper access ports and four fixed uplink interfaces in a managed Layer 2+ switch for small-business networks. Two uplinks are copper/SFP combo interfaces, and two are SFP interfaces, providing copper and fiber connection choices without a removable uplink card. Part of the Cisco 500 Series Stackable Managed Switches family, the full-width 1U chassis connects desktops, printers, servers and other Ethernet equipment from a network rack. The discontinued SG500-52P differs by adding PoE+; this model does not power attached endpoints. Hardware stacking combines eight members under one management address rather than requiring every chassis to be administered separately.

Static IPv4 and IPv6 routing handles local inter-subnet forwarding; dynamic routing is not a capability of this model. A 2048-route IPv4 table and 256 IPv4 interfaces set the routing limits to check before assigning local gateways. SG500-52 combines 256 MB of DRAM with 32 MB of flash, while its MAC table holds 16384 entries for endpoint learning. The Small Business 500 software supports 4096 simultaneous VLANs, STP/RSTP/MSTP and LACP for segmentation and link control. RADIUS/TACACS+ authentication controls administrative access, and eight hardware queues support traffic prioritization. Two fans cool the chassis without fan-speed control, which matters when locating equipment near occupied workspace. 47W worst-case consumption at 110V or 220V provides the load figure for AC circuit and backup-power sizing. The internal universal supply accepts 100-240V AC rather than requiring an external desktop adapter.
