WS-C4510R+E includes the chassis and WS-X4582+E, but no supervisor, line cards, or power supplies. The chassis alone cannot provide operational Ethernet interfaces.
Reuse of lower-power supervisor models
WS-C4510R+E does not support WS-X45-Sup6L-E, WS-X45-Sup7L-E, or WS-X45-Sup8L-E. Retaining one of these supervisors requires a different chassis configuration; none can operate in this ten-slot enclosure.

WS-C4510R+E identifies a Catalyst E-Series 4510R+E ten-slot chassis with WS-X4582+E, no power supply, and redundant-supervisor capability. The 4510R+E designation identifies the enclosure model rather than an installed Ethernet port count. Access interfaces, uplinks, and supervisor software are selected through the separately specified components, not a license suffix on this chassis PID.
WS-C4510R+E is managed through an installed supervisor using the CLI or Cisco Prime Infrastructure. Prime Infrastructure provides provisioning, monitoring, configuration templates, and maintenance for configured systems. The bare chassis does not provide an independent management session; the supervisor and its software must be included in the operational configuration.
WS-C4510R+E is discontinued, with end of sale on October 30, 2020, and the last date of support on October 31, 2025. Cisco service has ended. C9410R is the current ten-slot Catalyst 9400 replacement; purchases of the older chassis concern maintaining existing configurations rather than extending Cisco support coverage.

The Catalyst 4500E chassis uses a separately specified supervisor software configuration: LAN Base, IP Base, or Enterprise Services. IP Base and Enterprise Services upgrades use software activation licenses. Cisco ONE Software is another purchasing option for the series; the bare enclosure does not establish the installed supervisor's software tier.
WS-C4510R+E replaced WS-C4510R-E, which reached end of sale on April 16, 2013. The replacement increased per-slot bandwidth from 24 Gbps to 48 Gbps and retained backward compatibility with existing line cards. Both chassis are now discontinued, so this replacement history concerns legacy-system maintenance rather than a current-generation purchase.
WS-C4510R+E accepts PWR-C45-1400AC for data-only configurations and PWR-C45-2800ACV for configurations requiring PoE power. Neither is included with the bare chassis. One power supply is the minimum operating requirement; a second provides redundant-power capability when the complete hardware configuration and available output support the required load.
The ten-slot Catalyst 4500E chassis supports WS-X4712-SFP+E for twelve 10 Gigabit SFP+ ports and WS-X4748-RJ45-E for forty-eight Gigabit copper ports. Operation also depends on the supervisor, chassis slot, and software release. Specify the intended module inventory with the supervisor configuration rather than treating every interface card as interchangeable.
WS-C4510R+E provides eight line-card slots in a ten-slot chassis, while WS-C4507R+E provides five in a seven-slot chassis. Both support redundant supervisors and both are discontinued. The ten-slot model serves higher-density legacy configurations; the seven-slot model serves smaller installed configurations. Current-generation purchases should use their Catalyst 9400 replacements.
WS-C4510R+E is a discontinued Catalyst 4500E ten-slot chassis, whereas C9410R is the current Catalyst 9400 ten-slot replacement. Cisco service for the older chassis ended October 31, 2025. Existing installations may require WS-C4510R+E for compatible maintenance; buyers specifying a current generation should select C9410R with its own compatible components.
The ten-slot Catalyst 4500E chassis requires 14RU and measures 618.4 mm high, 439.7 mm wide, and 317 mm deep. Its chassis airflow runs from right to left. Maintain 160 mm between walls and chassis air vents, and 305 mm horizontal separation between adjacent chassis, when planning the installation.
WS-C4510R+E-RF is Cisco's remanufactured chassis, whereas certified refurbished WS-C4510R+E follows ORM Systems' inspection and bench-test process. These are different refurbishment programs, not interchangeable condition labels. Neither condition restarts the ended Cisco service lifecycle; identify the exact PID and refurbishing party on the purchase order to distinguish the supplied hardware.
