WS-CE500-24LC provides selective endpoint power across a 24-port Fast Ethernet Layer 2 access switch: four 10/100 ports deliver PoE, while twenty provide unpowered connections. Two fixed dual-purpose uplinks each select either 10/100/1000BASE-T copper or an SFP connection; the copper and fiber sides of the same uplink cannot operate simultaneously. The full-width 1U chassis belongs to the Catalyst Express 500 family for small and medium-sized business networks. Wireless access points, IP phones and surveillance cameras can use the powered connections, while desktops use the remaining access ports. The discontinued WS-CE500-24PC differs by supplying PoE across all twenty-four access ports. Cisco Catalyst Express 500-24LC configurations retain Fast Ethernet endpoint speeds even when an uplink operates at Gigabit speed.
WS-CE500-24LC price for new stock is $169.05. WS-CE500-24LC refurb price is $156.99. WS-CE500-24LC is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

8.8 Gbps switching capacity and 6.6 Mpps forwarding performance provide wire-speed switching for the installed interfaces. 62W of PoE capacity supplies 15.4W per powered connection simultaneously, supporting compatible endpoints without a separate power shelf. 110W maximum consumption includes endpoint power and establishes the electrical load to accommodate at the AC feed. WS-CE500-24LC uses 32 MB of DRAM for its operating software, while an 8000-entry MAC address table tracks connected devices. Cisco IOS provides the embedded switching software. STP and RSTP handle redundant Layer 2 paths, and LACP supports negotiated link aggregation. The embedded web Device Manager and Cisco Network Assistant provide configuration access, with read-only SNMPv3 available for monitoring. Inter-VLAN routing requires an external router rather than an additional software tier. A 0°C to 45°C operating range sets the environmental limits for the installation, and the 100-240V AC input accommodates the corresponding mains supply range.
ORM Systems offers WS-CE500-24LC new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty, or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year warranty; Cisco service ended December 18, 2014. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, with PoE output verified under load on every powered port, firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition, quantity and required accessories on the purchase order; returns are 30 days on every condition, terms apply. For enterprise and volume orders, POs are accepted, government buyers have Net-30 terms, and regional stock and RMA arrangements cover the UK, EU, US and MEA, with advance replacement available through RMA.

When staging a replacement before a maintenance window, initial setup begins with an otherwise disconnected switch and a PC configured to obtain an address automatically. The SETUP LED indicates when to connect the PC, and the temporary connection takes about one minute. Include an isolated setup step in the acceptance plan before the PO.
When standardizing security settings across locations, the high security level admits only authorized devices and authenticated users. Selecting among the three security levels requires Cisco Network Assistant. Define allowed device addresses and authentication requirements for each site, then include the required security level in the configuration acceptance criteria before ordering.
When extending a branch with voice and guest access, Smartports assignments introduce named VLAN dependencies. IP Phone+Desktop ports require Cisco-Voice, while Guest ports require Cisco-Guest. Record the case-sensitive Cisco-Voice name and the required port-role assignments in the branch configuration plan, then include the corresponding staging work in the purchase specification.
Gigabit speeds on every endpoint port
WS-CE500-24LC access ports stop at 100 Mbps; Gigabit operation is confined to the uplinks. Endpoints requiring native 1GbE cannot receive that speed from the access connections.
Power for more than four endpoints
Only four access ports deliver PoE, so a larger powered-device count exceeds the integrated powered-port allocation. The remaining twenty access ports carry data without providing endpoint power.
10G uplinks to upstream switches
The fixed uplinks operate at 1G maximum, with no 10G uplink interface. An upstream connection requiring native 10G cannot be provisioned on this hardware.

WS-CE500 identifies the Catalyst Express 500 switch family, 24 denotes twenty-four Fast Ethernet access ports, and LC identifies the configuration with four PoE ports and two dual-purpose Gigabit uplinks. WS-CE500-24LC combines these hardware characteristics in one fixed-configuration switch; the powered-port count is four, not twenty-four.
WS-CE500-24LC is configured through its embedded web Device Manager or the PC-based Cisco Network Assistant, with read-only SNMPv3 available for monitoring. Initial setup uses a browser connection from an attached PC. Smartports roles apply predefined network settings for endpoint types rather than requiring a console-based configuration workflow.
WS-CE500-24LC is discontinued: end of sale was December 17, 2009, and Cisco support ended December 18, 2014. The Catalyst Express 500 family is retired and no longer supported by Cisco. Purchasing remaining hardware does not restore manufacturer support or restart the product's completed service lifecycle.
WS-CE500-24LC can power four compatible devices through its four PoE access ports, with 15.4W available per powered port simultaneously and a total PoE budget of 62W. The other twenty Fast Ethernet access ports provide data connectivity only. Endpoint compatibility must match the supported PoE power level.
WS-CE500-24LC provides two dual-purpose Gigabit uplinks, each offering a 10/100/1000BASE-T copper connection or an SFP connection. Each copper interface shares its uplink with the corresponding SFP interface, so both sides cannot operate simultaneously. Choose the required medium for each uplink when specifying the connection hardware.
The Catalyst Express 500 requires an external router for inter-VLAN routing; WS-CE500-24LC performs Layer 2 switching rather than routing between IP subnets. VLAN membership and trunk connections are configured on the switch, while the attached router supplies the routing function. Include that external routing dependency in the network design.
No, WS-CE500-24LC does not provide redundant power or the external redundant-power input offered on the full-PoE model in this family. WS-CE500-24LC accepts 100-240V AC and reaches 110W maximum consumption, including endpoint power. Specify an AC feed rather than assuming that a second internal supply can be fitted.
No, Catalyst Express 500 switches operate as standalone switches rather than a hardware stack. Ethernet links can connect separate switches, but they do not create a shared stacking backplane. Managing multiple devices together does not change that limitation, so each unit's connections and electrical requirements must be specified independently.
ORM Systems offers WS-CE500-24LC new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Cisco's original limited lifetime hardware warranty is no longer active; service ended December 18, 2014. Returns are 30 days in every condition; terms apply.
WS-CE500-24LC supplies PoE on four access ports, whereas WS-CE500-24PC supplies PoE on all twenty-four access ports. Both models are discontinued members of the Catalyst Express 500 family. For legacy configurations, the LC model addresses limited powered-endpoint counts, while the PC model addresses powered connections across the entire access-port bank.
WS-CE500-24LC offers two copper-or-SFP Gigabit uplinks, while WS-CE500-24TT offers two copper-only Gigabit uplinks. Both models are discontinued, so this comparison concerns legacy hardware configurations. The LC model accommodates a fiber uplink requirement; the TT model corresponds to installations whose uplink connections remain entirely on copper cabling.
WS-CE500G-12TC provides Gigabit Ethernet downlinks, whereas WS-CE500-24LC provides Fast Ethernet downlinks. Both switches belong to the discontinued Catalyst Express 500 family. The Gigabit model addresses legacy server or switch connections requiring higher native interface speeds; WS-CE500-24LC addresses endpoint connections that operate at 10 or 100 Mbps.
