CDB-8P is a fanless, managed Layer 2 switch for low-voltage lighting and building-control networks, combining eight 10/100 Fast Ethernet PoE+ downlinks with two fixed Gigabit copper uplinks. The compact Desktop chassis belongs to the Catalyst Digital Building family and includes the LAN Lite software image. LED luminaires, HVAC controllers, sensors and security devices are its intended endpoints, rather than workstations requiring Gigabit access connections. The sibling CDB-8U supplies 60W per port instead of this model's 30W. Both models are discontinued, and neither has a direct one-to-one replacement; the higher-power sibling is therefore a comparison for existing installations, not a current migration destination.
CDB-8P price for new stock is $575.40, a 43.2% saving from the Cisco list price of $1,013.00. CDB-8P refurb price is $251.99. CDB-8P is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

5.6 Gbps switching capacity establishes the aggregate switching limit for attached devices. 4.2 Mpps forwarding specifies packet-handling performance for 64-byte packets. 240W of available PoE power supports endpoint power allocation across the powered interfaces. CDB-8P combines 512 MB of DRAM for runtime operation with 256 MB of flash for local software storage. Its 8192-entry MAC table and support for 64 VLANs establish the address-learning and segmentation limits. LACP supports link aggregation, while LLDP and LLDP-MED identify neighboring endpoints. The Cisco Catalyst Digital Building Series Switch supports web-based configuration, local console access, SNMPv3 management and Bluetooth mobile-app configuration. Secure boot accepts signed, authorized images, and port-based ACLs apply source and destination address policies. Layer 3 routing is not part of the included feature set.
Specify CDB-8P new sealed or certified refurbished, and state the condition and quantity on the PO. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, rated-speed links on every port, PoE output under load on every powered port, and PSU status; firmware is verified and configurations wiped to factory default. New units carry up to a 3-year extended warranty, certified refurbished units up to 1 year, with 30-day returns for every condition; terms apply. ORM Systems accepts POs, offers government Net-30, and handles enterprise and volume requirements through UK, EU, US and MEA stock and RMA with advance replacement.

When staging switches before installation, USB console input takes precedence over the RJ-45 console connection. Keep the intended commissioning method consistent across the batch and include console access in the staging plan. Confirm the bench procedure before releasing the purchase order.
When consolidating several building switches in an equipment rack, CDB-MNT-RACK5-C14= accommodates five units in a 5U assembly. Allow a 2U ventilation gap between assemblies unless forced air is provided from top to bottom. Specify the mounting chassis and rack space before ordering.
When rolling out switches above suspended ceilings, CDB-MNT-FLEX-DIR= is the plenum-rated mounting option; CDB-MNT-FLEX-C14= is not. Treat the mount as part of the installation package rather than an interchangeable bracket. Specify the correct mount and qualified electrical installation before the purchase order.
Gigabit connections to endpoint devices
Endpoint links stop at 100 Mbps; the Gigabit copper interfaces serve uplinks only. Gigabit workstation or camera connections exceed the access-port capability of this model.
Direct fiber uplinks
Both uplinks are fixed copper RJ-45 connections, with no optical cages or removable uplink cards. Direct fiber termination is unavailable on this chassis.

CDB-8P identifies a Catalyst Digital Building switch with eight Fast Ethernet PoE+ access ports. CDB names the Digital Building family, 8 gives the access-port count, and P identifies the PoE+ model. The full part number also selects two Gigabit copper uplinks and the LAN Lite software image.
CDB-8P supports a web UI through Cisco Configuration Professional for Catalyst, CLI access through RJ-45 or USB console, SNMPv3, and Bluetooth mobile-app configuration. Management integrations include Cisco Prime Infrastructure and Cisco Network Assistant; APIC-EM supports automated deployment, while Cisco Active Advisor provides inventory and lifecycle information.
CDB-8P reached end of sale on April 30, 2025, and routine software maintenance ended April 30, 2026. Security support and eligible hardware service continue through April 30, 2030. No direct one-to-one replacement exists, so migration requires reassessing the installation rather than substituting an equivalent chassis.
CDB-8P includes a permanent, hardware-bound LAN Lite base license; DNA Essentials is the term add-on, with a three-year minimum and five- or seven-year options. DNA Advantage is unavailable even if visible in the CLI. Use a Smart Account to manage subscriptions and track expiration separately from the base license.
CDB-8P provides a 240W PoE+ budget across eight powered ports, with 30W available per port. Eight ports at 30W equal the full 240W allocation. Size each endpoint against the port limit and check its power classification before approving the powered-device schedule for the order.
CDB-8P has two fixed 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper uplinks, not optical slots. No optical transceiver is required for those connections. Match the upstream interface and copper cabling to the installation, and keep any direct fiber-termination requirement outside this switch's purchase specification.
Catalyst Digital Building switches require a compatible powered mounting accessory: CDB-MNT-FLEX-C14=, CDB-MNT-FLEX-DIR=, or CDB-MNT-RACK5-C14=. The switch chassis is not a standalone full-width rack unit. Match the mounting accessory to the installation location and power connection, and include that accessory explicitly in the purchase specification.
No, CDB-8P is a Layer 2 switch with LAN Lite, not a routed-access switch. Plan inter-VLAN routing on upstream equipment rather than expecting this model to route between building networks. The LAN Lite base license is tied to the hardware and cannot be changed into another base feature set.
CDB-8P supplies 30W per port, while CDB-8U supplies 60W per port through Cisco UPOE. Both models are discontinued and neither has a direct one-to-one replacement. The PoE+ model suits lower-power endpoints; the UPOE model corresponds to higher-power loads in an existing Digital Building installation.
ORM Systems offers CDB-8P new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Returns are 30 days for every condition; terms apply. Cisco's original-owner Enhanced Limited Lifetime warranty remains subject to discontinuance limits, with Cisco service ending April 30, 2030.
