ME-3400-24TS-D provides managed access for service-provider customer sites, combining 24 copper 10/100 ports with two fixed Gigabit SFP uplinks and an internal DC supply. The rack-mounted Cisco ME 3400 supports Layer 2 services, with routed operation available through a separate software image. This configuration retains Fast Ethernet subscriber connections rather than providing Gigabit copper access. Match the hardware to an existing DC-powered installation and confirm the software configuration separately.

8.8 Gbps switching capacity and 6.5 Mpps forwarding support traffic aggregation between subscriber interfaces and uplinks. ME-3400-24TS-D carries 128 MB of DRAM and 32 MB of flash for its operating software and configuration. A 30W maximum power draw provides the chassis allowance for site power planning. The ME 3400 Series Ethernet Access Switches support CLI-based administration and network management integration; hardware identity alone does not establish the installed software feature set.
Specify ME-3400-24TS-D in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, and confirm condition and quantity on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed links on every port, optics bay recognition, and clean boot; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. ORM coverage is up to 3-year extended for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply, and Cisco service ended January 31, 2019. Enterprise and volume orders support PO acceptance, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement across the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

When recreating a subscriber handoff in a staging lab, account for UNI ports being down by default. A unit that powers on is not yet an activated customer service. Include port activation and subscriber-isolation checks in the acceptance plan before issuing the purchase order.
For a replacement batch supporting existing multicast video services, the ME 3400 family provides IGMP filtering, IGMP throttling, and MVR. Match the existing subscriber policies rather than assuming identical hardware establishes identical service behavior. Specify multicast acceptance checks for each unit on the purchase order.
Gigabit copper access for every endpoint
The 24 built-in copper access ports stop at 100 Mbps. Faster subscriber connections require different access hardware rather than a software image upgrade.
Direct AC power connection
The internal supply requires a DC feed and does not accept a direct AC connection. Specify a DC-powered installation rather than assuming power variants are interchangeable.
Current Cisco hardware support
Cisco support ended January 31, 2019. N540-6Z18G-SYS-A is a forward migration option, but its fiber-port configuration and AC input require a different installation plan.

ME-3400-24TS-D identifies the ME 3400 family, 24 copper 10/100 access ports, two SFP uplinks, and DC power. The 24TS segment identifies this copper-access and SFP-uplink configuration, while D selects the DC-powered version. The hardware part number does not identify the installed software image.
ME-3400-24TS-D supports the Cisco IOS CLI through its console or Telnet, with SSH requiring cryptographic software. Network management options include SNMP, CiscoWorks, Cisco CNS 2100, and Cisco ISC. Cisco CNS 2100 supplies a separate web GUI and XML interface for provisioning.
ME-3400-24TS-D is discontinued: end of sale was January 9, 2014, and Cisco support ended January 31, 2019. New sealed stock does not restart Cisco service eligibility. Treat procurement as a legacy-hardware purchase and distinguish reseller coverage from manufacturer support availability.
ORM Systems offers ME-3400-24TS-D new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended coverage for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns are 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco hardware coverage and service ended January 31, 2019.
ME-3400-24TS-D supports METROBASE, METROACCESS, and METROIPACCESS images. METROBASE provides Layer 2 services, METROACCESS adds Layer 2 VPN functions, and METROIPACCESS enables routing. Specify the required image explicitly; the hardware PID alone does not establish which feature set accompanies an individual unit.
The Cisco ME 3400 configuration accepts supported 100BASE-X and Gigabit Ethernet SFP transceivers in its fixed uplink slots. GLC-SX-MM= and GLC-LH-SM= are Gigabit options. Match the exact transceiver to the remote interface and fiber, and identify that PID on the purchase order.
ME-3400-24TS-D performs dynamic routing with the METROIPACCESS image, including RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, and BGPv4. METROBASE and METROACCESS are Layer 2 images. For a routed order, make the required image and routing protocols explicit acceptance criteria rather than relying on the chassis PID.
ME-3400-24TS-D requires a DC connection to its internal power supply, with a specified input range of -36 to -72V DC. Confirm the site feed before selecting this variant. A direct AC connection is not interchangeable with the DC input on this chassis.
ME-3400-24TS-D uses DC power, while ME-3400-24TS-A uses AC power; both provide 24 copper 10/100 ports and two SFP uplinks. The D variant corresponds to DC-powered installations and the A variant to AC-powered installations. Their power connections are the purchasing distinction, not access-port density.
ME-3400-24TS-D has 24 copper Fast Ethernet access ports, whereas N540-6Z18G-SYS-A provides 18 Gigabit SFP ports and six 1/10G SFP+ ports. The latter is an AC-powered forward migration option, not a drop-in copper replacement. Legacy copper retention and fiber migration require different purchasing plans.
