ME-3600X-24FS-M is a managed Layer 3 fiber access switch with 24 Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports and two fixed SFP+ uplink cages in a 1U rack-mount chassis. Metro IP Access provides routed Carrier Ethernet access for service providers, while the fiber access connections do not supply PoE to endpoints. The Cisco ME 3600X Series Ethernet Access Switches support business and mobile service handoffs rather than powered desktop connections. The discontinued ME-3600X-24TS-M substitutes copper access connections for fiber. Built-in uplink cages accept transceivers without a removable network card, so matching an installed network starts with the handoff medium, connector requirements, and existing service configuration.
ME-3600X-24FS-M price for new stock is $1,433.25. ME-3600X-24FS-M refurb price is $157.50. ME-3600X-24FS-M is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

44 Gbps switching capacity defines the forwarding bandwidth, while 65 Mpps forwarding performance provides the packet-rate limit for traffic sizing. The Cisco Carrier Ethernet ASIC handles switching and routing, with 44 MB of packet buffers providing queue space for service traffic. ME-3600X-24FS-M uses 1 GB of DRAM for working memory and 64 MB of flash for software storage. Metro IP Access supports 8000 MAC entries and 20000 IPv4 routes; Advanced Metro IP Access increases the MAC limit to 16000 entries without increasing that IPv4 route total. The ME 3600X software supports OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, and BGP alongside static routing and RIP. Console access, remote CLI, and SNMP provide administration paths, with SSH requiring a cryptographic image.
Order ME-3600X-24FS-M in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, and specify the required component bundle and software entitlements on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, clean boot, optics bay recognition, PSU status, and fan status; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM warranties provide up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Enterprise and volume orders accept POs, offer Net-30 for government, and include RMA with advance replacement across UK / EU / US / MEA.

Lifecycle Status | End-of-sale October 15, 2017; support ended October 31, 2022 |
When retiring discontinued ME-4924-10GE or WS-C4928-10GE hardware, this switch is a named migration option from their February 28, 2013 end-of-sale transition. Treat the purchase as a legacy replacement rather than a current-generation rollout; confirm existing fiber terminations, service configuration, and the required component bundle before the PO.
When consolidating Ethernet service handoffs into fewer access devices, the 4000 bridge-domain limit becomes a purchase-sizing constraint separate from physical connections. Count the bridge domains required by the intended service configuration, including planned additions, and specify the configuration scope for staging before committing the hardware quantity on the PO.
When standardizing administration across several service-provider sites, the five simultaneous SSH-session limit affects shared operational access. Map administrator and automation sessions to each device rather than assuming unrestricted concurrent CLI access, then specify the management access policy and software-image requirements in the staging instructions before the PO.
Active manufacturer support for new deployments
ME-3600X-24FS-M passed its October 31, 2022 last date of support. Cisco service has ended, so this hardware cannot satisfy a requirement for active manufacturer support.
10G on every access connection
ME-3600X-24FS-M provides Gigabit Ethernet access connections. Its two SFP+ uplink cages are the 10G-capable interfaces; the access ports cannot become native 10G connections.
PoE power for attached endpoints
ME-3600X-24FS-M has SFP-based access connections and provides no PoE output. Cameras, phones, and access points must receive power from equipment outside this switch.

ME-3600X-24FS-M identifies the ME 3600X fiber Ethernet access switch: ME-3600X identifies the series, 24 is the access-port count, and FS corresponds to the SFP fiber configuration. The complete part number selects the fiber base unit with fixed SFP+ uplink cages, rather than the copper-access version.
ME-3600X-24FS-M is managed through the Cisco IOS CLI over console, Telnet, or SSH, plus SNMP and Cisco Configuration Engine. SSH requires a cryptographic image. In-band access and a separate Ethernet management port are available; Cisco Active Network Abstraction and CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution provide additional management integration.
ME-3600X-24FS-M is discontinued: end-of-sale was October 15, 2017, and the last date of support was October 31, 2022. Cisco service has ended. Purchases are legacy hardware orders; condition, included power components, optics, and applicable software entitlements need to be specified rather than assumed from an earlier deployment.
ORM offers ME-3600X-24FS-M new sealed and certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on certified refurbished units. Cisco hardware warranty and service ended October 31, 2022. Both conditions have 30-day returns; terms apply. Refurbished managed units are bench-tested, firmware verified, and wiped to factory default.
Metro IP Access is the base ME 3600X software tier; Advanced Metro IP Access adds MPLS services, and 10GE Upgrade enables 10G uplinks. ME3600X-A and ME3600X-10G are the corresponding paper-license PIDs. A 60-day Advanced Metro IP Access evaluation becomes unusable after the next reload once its evaluation period has expired.
ME-3600X-24FS-M is a named replacement for discontinued ME-4924-10GE and WS-C4928-10GE, both of which reached end-of-sale on February 28, 2013. That migration relationship supports legacy replacement matching, but does not make this model current hardware. Confirm the existing service configuration and physical connections before reproducing an older purchase order.
ME-3600X-24FS-M has two fixed SFP+ uplink cages; SFP-10G-SR and SFP-10G-LR are compatible 10G optics. ME3600X-10G activation is required for 10G operation. The uplink cages also support 1000BASE-X connections, but not 1000BASE-T; specify the optics PID and intended link speed for each cage on the order.
The ME 3600X fiber switch accepts PWR-ME3KX-AC and PWR-ME3KX-DC power/fan modules in two internal positions. A one-supply configuration needs ME-FANTRAY in the other position; a second supply provides redundancy. AC input is 100-240V, while DC input supports 18-32V or 36-72V. Specify installed module PIDs and the required input method.
Metro IP Access provides Layer 3 routing on the ME 3600X, including static routing, RIP v1/v2, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, and BGPv4. IPv4 route scale is 20000 routes under both Metro IP Access and Advanced Metro IP Access. MPLS VPN and VPLS services require the Advanced Metro IP Access tier.
ME-3600X-24FS-M uses 24 Gigabit Ethernet SFP access ports, whereas the discontinued ME-3600X-24TS-M uses 24 copper 10/100/1000 access ports. The difference is the access connection medium, not an added network module. For legacy matching, the fiber unit serves SFP-based handoffs and the copper unit serves twisted-pair access installations; both models are discontinued.
