The discontinued ME-3400EG-12CS-M differs by accepting modular power supplies instead of using a fixed supply.

8 Gbps switching capacity and a 6.5 Mpps forwarding rate define the forwarding envelope for traffic sizing. ME-3400EG-2CS-A contains 128 MB of DRAM and 32 MB of flash memory for software operation and image storage. The configurable MAC address limit is 8000 entries, and Gigabit Ethernet bridging supports an MTU of 9000 bytes for services requiring larger frames. Layer 3 routing requires the METROIPACCESS software image; dynamic routing is not part of the Layer 2 feature set. Management supports a console CLI, remote terminal sessions and network-management protocols. SSH requires a cryptographic software image, so remote-access requirements must match the installed image before configuration is standardized.
