ME-3400EG-12CS-M is a non-PoE Carrier Ethernet access switch with twelve Gigabit copper/fiber combo connections and four fixed 1G SFP uplinks. The rack-mount 1U chassis serves customer-located business Ethernet access, with a Layer 2 service configuration and optional routing software. Each combo connection uses either its copper interface or its fiber interface, not both simultaneously. The Cisco ME 3400E Series Ethernet Access Switches address service-provider handoffs rather than powered endpoint access. The discontinued ME-3400EG-2CS-A uses fixed AC power, unlike the configurable power arrangement of this chassis.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M price for new stock is $782.25, a 84.1% saving from the Cisco list price of $4,919.00. ME-3400EG-12CS-M refurb price is $204.75. ME-3400EG-12CS-M is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

32 Gbps switching capacity and 26 Mpps forwarding define the traffic envelope for service sizing. ME-3400EG-12CS-M carries 128 MB DRAM, 32 MB flash memory, and an 8000-entry MAC address table for matching an existing configuration's resource requirements. Cisco IOS supports local console access and remote CLI management through Telnet or SSH, with a cryptographic image required for SSH. SNMP, CiscoWorks, and the separately purchased CiscoView application provide additional management paths. Image selection must match the required service features; the hardware part number alone does not establish a routed configuration.
ORM Systems offers ME-3400EG-12CS-M new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, optics bay recognition, PSU status, fan status, and clean boot; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. Specify condition, software image, power configuration, optics, and quantity on the order request. For enterprise and volume purchasing, POs are accepted, government buyers can use Net-30, and RMA with advance replacement is available across UK, EU, US, and MEA regional stock and RMA operations.

When an existing configuration is being reproduced in a staging environment, UNI and ENI ports start down and do not switch locally by default. Separate customer-port activation from acceptance testing, then specify the required interface roles and activation configuration before the purchase order.
When multiple customer sites already use environmental contact monitoring, four external alarm inputs support contact-based alarm integration. Decide which site conditions require normally open or normally closed contacts, assign alarm severity, and specify the alarm wiring and management configuration before ordering equipment for each location.
10G uplinks for new services
Fixed uplinks stop at 1G. N540-6Z18G-SYS-A provides six 1/10G SFP+ interfaces and eighteen 1G SFP interfaces, so a migration also changes the access interface arrangement.
Active Cisco support for deployments
Cisco service ended October 31, 2023. The current migration chain reaches N540-6Z18G-SYS-A through the discontinued N520-4G4Z-A; evaluate the router's different interfaces before specifying a replacement.

ME-3400EG-12CS-M identifies the ME 3400E Gigabit Carrier Ethernet chassis with 12 dual-purpose copper/SFP connections and four additional SFP uplinks. The 12CS portion corresponds to twelve combo connections; the complete -M configuration provides modular power bays, while software image selection remains separate from the chassis identity.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M supports Cisco IOS CLI through console, Telnet, or SSH with a cryptographic image, plus SNMPv1/v2c/v3, CiscoWorks, and CiscoView. CiscoView is purchased separately. Specify the required management method and image, then retain the access settings needed to integrate the replacement with the existing management environment.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M is discontinued: sales ended October 3, 2018, and Cisco support ended October 31, 2023. Its direct replacement, N520-4G4Z-A, is also discontinued. The migration chain continues to N540-6Z18G-SYS-A; sealed condition does not reinstate manufacturer support for the original switch.
ORM Systems offers ME-3400EG-12CS-M new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty, or certified refurbished with up to 1 year. Both conditions have 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco's original 90-day limited hardware warranty does not restore manufacturer service: Cisco support and warranty entitlements ended October 31, 2023.
The ME 3400E series supports METROBASE, METROACCESS, and METROIPACCESS, with IP routing requiring METROIPACCESS. Historical upgrade paths cover METROBASE to either higher image and METROACCESS to METROIPACCESS. Specify the installed image and required entitlement on the order rather than assuming the hardware PID establishes routing capability.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M is the named replacement for the discontinued ME-3400G-12CS-A, whose end-of-sale date was January 9, 2014. That relationship identifies an installed-base replacement, not a newly supported deployment: ME 3400E hardware support has also ended. Confirm the existing configuration and power requirements before ordering.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M provides twelve combo connections plus four dedicated SFP uplinks; each combo connection uses either copper or its associated SFP cage, not both. Build the interface map around those shared connections, then confirm optic quantities and remote fiber terminations before placing the purchase order.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M operates with one ME34X-PWR-AC or ME34X-PWR-DC and accepts a second module for redundancy. Two AC, two DC, or mixed AC/DC configurations are supported. Specify each module PID and quantity because the chassis PID does not identify the fitted power combination.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M accepts ME34X-PWR-AC or ME34X-PWR-DC modules, whereas ME-3400EG-2CS-A has fixed AC power. Both models are discontinued. The former matches installed estates needing configurable power arrangements; the latter matches existing fixed-AC demarcation installations. Compare the actual power configuration when purchasing legacy spares.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M has twelve Gigabit combo connections, whereas ME-3400E-24TS-M has twenty-four dedicated 10/100 access ports. Both are discontinued. The former matches legacy Gigabit copper/fiber handoffs; the latter matches existing higher-count Fast Ethernet estates. Verify interface assignments rather than treating the two chassis as interchangeable spares.
N540-6Z18G-SYS-A provides six 1/10G SFP+ interfaces, whereas ME-3400EG-12CS-M uplinks stop at 1G. The forward migration passes through the discontinued N520-4G4Z-A. The legacy chassis matches like-for-like sparing; the current N540 model addresses 10G refresh requirements with a different eighteen-port 1G SFP interface arrangement.
ME-3400EG-12CS-M is included in FN63756, which describes affected units that may fail to boot after a power cycle. The issue concerns specific memory components rather than every chassis being defective. Include clean-boot acceptance and power-cycle checks in the staging plan before putting a legacy unit into service.
