ME-4924-10GE provides managed Layer 3 fiber aggregation for carrier Ethernet networks, with 24 Gigabit Ethernet SFP access interfaces and fixed uplink connections using Gigabit SFP or 10 Gigabit Ethernet X2 optics. The non-PoE configuration serves optical connections rather than directly powering endpoints. IP Base is the included software image, and the chassis ships with a fan tray but without a power supply. The Cisco ME 4924 belongs to the ME 4900 family and targets aggregation of residential broadband services and business Ethernet connections. Buyers retaining an existing installation should match the optical interface format and software requirements rather than treating any fiber aggregation switch as an interchangeable replacement.

48 Gbps switching capacity and 71 Mpps forwarding provide hardware-based packet processing for aggregated traffic. Static routing, RIPv1, RIPv2 and EIGRP Stub are available with IP Base; full EIGRP, OSPF, BGP and IS-IS require Enterprise Services rather than the included image. ME-4924-10GE carries 256 MB of DRAM and 64 MB of flash, while packet buffering uses 16 MB of dynamically shared memory. Management options include a console CLI, SSH, CiscoWorks, Cisco Network Assistant and SNMP. The front-panel management connection is reserved for recovery operation rather than ordinary out-of-band administration. A PWR-C49-300AC or PWR-C49-300DC operates the chassis, with a second supply providing optional power redundancy. Supply output ratings must not be treated as the switch's measured power consumption.
ME-4924-10GE is offered new sealed or certified refurbished; specify the condition, included components and acceptance requirements on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed port links, clean boot, optics recognition, PSU status and fan status, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. New units carry up to 3-year extended warranty, certified refurbished units carry up to 1 year, and every condition has 30-day returns, with terms applying. For enterprise and volume orders, ORM Systems accepts POs, provides Net-30 for government and offers RMA with advance replacement.

When a replacement chassis must enter an established maintenance workflow, the minimum software baseline is Cisco IOS Release 12.2(31)SGA. Use staging to confirm image compatibility, boot behavior and configuration requirements before scheduling installation. Specify the required software image and acceptance checks on the purchase order.
When retaining an existing single-mode fiber uplink, X2-10GE-LR supports a 10 km connection. Review the remote interface, fiber plant and optical requirements before reusing the link. Specify X2-10GE-LR by part number and confirm the required quantity and inclusion in the purchase order.
OSPF or BGP with the included image
The included IP Base image does not provide OSPF or BGP. Those routing requirements need Enterprise Services rather than an unchanged base-image order.
Active Cisco manufacturer support
Cisco service ended February 28, 2018. C9500-48Y4C is the forward migration endpoint through the discontinued WS-C4500X-32SFP+; it is not a like-for-like chassis replacement.
Native copper endpoint access ports
Access connections use SFP interfaces rather than built-in RJ-45 Ethernet ports. Copper endpoint requirements therefore cannot be met by the chassis alone without compatible transceivers.

ME-4924-10GE identifies the Cisco ME 4924 model with 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink capability, an IP Base software image, a fan tray and no power supply. ME-4924 names the model and 10GE identifies the uplink capability; the PID has no separate software-tier suffix.
ME-4924-10GE supports console CLI administration, SSH, CiscoWorks, Cisco Network Assistant and SNMP management. Normal remote administration uses in-band connectivity. The front-panel management port is intended for recovery operation, so buyers should not plan to use that connection as an ordinary dedicated management interface.
ME-4924-10GE is end of life: Cisco ended sales on February 28, 2013, and support on February 28, 2018. A reseller order does not restart those manufacturer milestones. Evaluate the unit as legacy hardware and define the required acceptance testing and replacement arrangements before ordering.
ORM Systems offers ME-4924-10GE new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns are 30 days on every condition; terms apply. Cisco's original one-year platform warranty has ended, with manufacturer support ending February 28, 2018.
ME-4924-10GE includes IP Base, while Enterprise Services adds the advanced routing image. IP Base provides static routing, RIPv1, RIPv2 and EIGRP Stub; Enterprise Services adds full EIGRP, OSPF, BGP and IS-IS. Specify the intended image explicitly rather than assuming that a hardware-only quotation includes advanced routing.
The Cisco ME 4924 supports Gigabit Ethernet SFP uplinks and 10 Gigabit Ethernet X2 uplinks, rather than SFP+ uplinks. The configuration provides four Gigabit SFP uplink interfaces or two X2 uplink interfaces. Match the uplink format to the remote equipment before selecting optics for the order.
ME-4924-10GE accepts PWR-C49-300AC for AC input or PWR-C49-300DC for DC input, and the base PID includes neither. One compatible supply operates the chassis; a second provides optional redundancy. Confirm the site's power source, supply quantity and required power connections before approving the purchase order.
The Cisco ME 4924 provides a 48 Gbps switching fabric and 71 Mpps hardware forwarding. These figures describe switching and packet-forwarding performance, not the speed of an individual interface. When qualifying a replacement, compare both figures with the intended traffic profile rather than relying only on uplink speed.
The Cisco ME 4924 can connect copper Ethernet equipment through the compatible GLC-T= transceiver, rather than through native copper access ports. Treat GLC-T= as a separate line item when required. Confirm the intended copper connection requirements before assuming that an existing optical-port configuration covers the deployment.
ME-4924-10GE is retired legacy aggregation hardware, while C9500-48Y4C is the forward replacement reached through the discontinued WS-C4500X-32SFP+ migration path. The former addresses existing-system replacement requirements; the latter represents a hardware-generation change. Review interface compatibility and software requirements rather than treating the two as interchangeable chassis.
