ME-3400G-2CS-A is a compact, managed Gigabit Ethernet demarcation switch with two copper/SFP combo access interfaces and two fixed 1G SFP uplinks. Each combo interface uses either its copper connection or its SFP cage, so the chassis is not a four-port copper access switch. The desktop design belongs to the Cisco ME 3400 Series Ethernet Access Switches and serves customer-located Carrier Ethernet connections rather than high-density endpoint access. Layer 2 operation and optional routed services depend on the selected Cisco IOS feature image. The discontinued ME-3400G-12CS-A differs through its redundant AC power arrangement, whereas this model uses a single AC supply. Fixed SFP uplinks provide the upstream connections without an interchangeable network-module bay; there is no 10G uplink expansion path.

8 Gbps switching capacity supports the fixed interface set, while 6.5 Mpps forwarding defines the packet-processing ceiling. 20W maximum consumption provides the switch load for power planning. ME-3400G-2CS-A carries 128 MB of DRAM and 32 MB of flash for software execution and image storage. The forwarding table accommodates 8000 MAC addresses, and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces support a maximum MTU of 9000 bytes when larger frames are required. Ingress policing and egress shaping provide separate controls for incoming and outgoing service rates. IGMP filtering, throttling, and MVR support multicast service handling. Administrators can use the console CLI, Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, and CiscoWorks; SSH requires a cryptographic software image. The 100-240V AC input range accommodates different mains voltages without requiring a DC-powered hardware variant.
ORM Systems offers ME-3400G-2CS-A new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty, or certified refurbished with up to 1 year; 30-day returns cover every condition, terms apply, and Cisco service ended January 31, 2019. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed links on every port, optics bay recognition, PSU status, and clean boot, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition and quantity on the purchase order. POs are accepted, government Net-30 is available, and enterprise and volume requirements can use RMA with advance replacement across UK, EU, US, and MEA regional stock and RMA.

When a service provider adds another customer handoff to an existing ME 3400 estate, UNI/ENI ports begin disabled and do not locally switch customer traffic by default. Preserve those isolation assumptions in the staged configuration, and specify the required port roles before releasing the purchase order.
When a lab must reproduce multicast service behavior before a legacy configuration change, the switch supports 1000 IGMP groups and multicast routes. That ceiling is separate from unicast routing and software-image selection. Define the intended multicast test scale and required management access before ordering the staging unit.
10G fiber uplinks
The fixed uplinks stop at 1G. N540-6Z18G-SYS-A provides six 1G/10G SFP+ interfaces plus eighteen 1G SFP interfaces, so migration also changes the connection layout.
Cisco-supported production hardware
Cisco service ended January 31, 2019. N540-6Z18G-SYS-A is the current successor-chain option when manufacturer-supported hardware is required, with a substantially different interface arrangement.

ME-3400G-2CS-A identifies an ME 3400 Gigabit Ethernet model with two copper/SFP combo access ports, two dedicated SFP uplinks, and AC power. The family prefix identifies ME 3400, G corresponds to Gigabit Ethernet, 2CS corresponds to the dual-purpose access arrangement, and A selects AC power rather than a software tier.
The Cisco ME 3400 Series supports Cisco IOS CLI management through the console, Telnet, or SSH, plus SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and CiscoWorks. SSH requires a cryptographic software image. Specify that image with the order when encrypted remote administration is part of the acceptance criteria.
ME-3400G-2CS-A is discontinued: end of sale was January 9, 2014, and Cisco support ended January 31, 2019. The immediate replacement, ME-3400EG-2CS-A, is also discontinued. A current refresh therefore requires following the migration chain beyond that intermediate model, rather than treating the original replacement as a current purchase.
ME-3400G-2CS-A supports METROBASE, METROACCESS, and METROIPACCESS Cisco IOS feature images. METROBASE supplies standard Layer 2 switching; METROACCESS adds Ethernet tunneling and service features; METROIPACCESS adds routed services. CD-ME3400-B2A=, CD-ME3400-B2I=, and CD-ME3400-A2I= identify image-upgrade paths. Specify the required image rather than reading a tier from the AC suffix.
ME-3400G-2CS-A has four usable network interfaces: two dual-purpose 10/100/1000 copper-or-SFP interfaces and two dedicated SFP uplinks. Each dual-purpose pair shares one interface, so copper and fiber on the same pair are not independent access ports. The dedicated uplinks support Gigabit Ethernet connections.
ME-3400G-2CS-A uses a single internal AC power supply rather than the redundant AC arrangement available on larger family members. The input range is 100-240V AC, and maximum consumption is 20W. Specify the AC connection and required chassis redundancy policy before approving a spare for an existing installation.
ME-3400G-2CS-A supports OSPF and BGPv4 with METROIPACCESS; METROBASE and METROACCESS provide Layer 2 operation. METROIPACCESS also supports static routing, RIP v1/v2, EIGRP, IS-IS, PBR, and Multi-VRF CE. Hardware capacity reaches 5000 unicast routes, but that capacity does not enable routing in a Layer 2 image.
The ME-3400G-2CS-A Gigabit demarcation switch is a compact desktop-width chassis, measuring 269 mm wide, 44 mm high, and 182 mm deep. Its weight is 1.6 kg. The enclosure is narrower than a full-width rack switch, so confirm the intended mounting arrangement before ordering installation hardware.
The discontinued ME-3400G-12CS-A includes redundant AC power, whereas ME-3400G-2CS-A uses a single AC supply. Power architecture matters when matching legacy spares. ME-3400G-2CS-A fits single-supply replacement requirements; ME-3400G-12CS-A matches existing redundant-AC installations, but neither model represents a current Cisco-supported refresh purchase.
The discontinued ME-3400-24TS-A provides 24 Fast Ethernet access ports, while ME-3400G-2CS-A provides two Gigabit copper/SFP combo access ports. The smaller model matches a legacy demarcation handoff; the larger model matches an existing higher-port-count Fast Ethernet installation. Both comparisons concern legacy maintenance rather than current Cisco-supported deployment.
N540-6Z18G-SYS-A offers six 1G/10G SFP+ interfaces, while ME-3400G-2CS-A has two fixed 1G SFP uplinks. The migration model also carries eighteen 1G SFP interfaces, changing connection density. ME-3400G-2CS-A serves legacy like-for-like sparing; N540-6Z18G-SYS-A is the current successor-chain option for a refreshed service-provider edge.
ORM offers ME-3400G-2CS-A new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns cover every condition for 30 days; terms apply. Cisco's platform warranty and service ended January 31, 2019. Refurbished managed units are bench-tested, firmware-verified, and factory-reset.
