MS220-48LP is a cloud-managed Layer 2 access switch with 48 Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ ports and four fixed 1G SFP uplinks in a 1U rack-mount chassis. The Meraki MS220 family serves branch access networks connecting workstations and powering phones, wireless access points and IP cameras. Voice VLAN support associates telephone traffic with its assigned VLAN, while Quality of Service prioritizes traffic in converged voice, video and data networks. The discontinued MS220-48FP offers a larger aggregate PoE allocation without changing copper port density. The Cisco Meraki MS family separates hardware-based switching and forwarding from software-based control and management. This model handles switched endpoint access rather than replacing the routing device responsible for communication between subnets.

104 Gbps switching capacity supports local traffic across the installed interfaces. 370W of shared PoE power sets the aggregate allowance for connected endpoints. 505W full-load consumption, rather than the 45W idle draw, is the relevant figure when reserving electrical capacity. MS220-48LP maintains 16000 MAC forwarding entries for learning connected devices. STP and RSTP provide loop control, while LACP supports aggregated connections. IGMP snooping filters multicast traffic, and IPv4 ACLs provide access-edge traffic filtering. DHCP relay is available, but the model does not provide general-purpose Layer 3 routing. SNMP integration exposes monitoring to third-party management systems. Historical per-port and per-client usage statistics support utilization reviews; aggregated event logs track configuration changes. MAC-based RADIUS authentication, sticky MAC controls and root guard provide additional access and topology controls. Broadcast storm control limits flooding, while port mirroring copies selected traffic to an analysis destination.
ORM Systems offers MS220-48LP new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year warranty; every condition includes 30-day returns, terms apply. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, with PoE output verified under load on every powered port, optics bay recognition checked, firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Specify condition, quantities and accessories on the PO; Cisco's original lifetime hardware warranty and service ended July 29, 2024. Enterprise and volume orders support PO acceptance, Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA in the UK, EU, US and MEA.

When an existing Meraki estate needs a consistent operating model across branch locations, browser-based administration keeps port policies and monitoring in the same dashboard. Role-based access and two-factor authentication support separate administrator responsibilities. Specify organization access, configuration ownership and the intended management workflow before the PO.
For a lab reproducing legacy branch switching behavior, 9578-byte jumbo-frame support provides a defined frame-size boundary for test plans. Remote packet capture and cable testing offer separate diagnostic checks. Specify the intended frame sizes, connected endpoints and acceptance tests before committing the staging purchase.
When an installed fleet requires like-for-like spares, match the MS220-48LP-HW hardware identity rather than treating every Meraki switch as interchangeable. Keep replacement configuration, approved firmware and the connected-device list with the maintenance record. Specify the required condition and acceptance criteria on the spare-unit PO.
Manufacturer-backed hardware service
Cisco service for MS220-48LP ended July 29, 2024. MS130-48P is the current migration endpoint when a purchase requires current hardware rather than an unsupported legacy spare.
10G uplinks to distribution
MS220-48LP has four fixed 1G SFP uplinks and no 10G SFP+ uplinks. Installing a different optical transceiver cannot raise those uplinks to 10G.
Physical data-stack expansion
MS220-48LP supports virtual stacking for management, not a physical data stack. Unified dashboard administration does not provide dedicated stacking connections or inter-switch stack bandwidth.

MS220-48LP identifies a Meraki MS220 Layer 2 cloud-managed switch with 48 Gigabit copper ports and a 370W PoE configuration. MS220 identifies the family, 48 identifies the copper-port count, and LP corresponds to this PoE power configuration. The hardware ordering form is MS220-48LP-HW; the identifier does not specify a subscription term.
MS220-48LP is managed through the browser-based Meraki dashboard, with SNMP integration for third-party monitoring rather than a traditional switch-configuration CLI. Administrators can set port policies, review event logs and control access by role. The operating workflow uses Meraki cloud management rather than an on-box command-line configuration model.
MS220-48LP reached end of sale on July 29, 2017, and Cisco support ended July 29, 2024. The original replacement MS120-48LP-HW is also discontinued; the forward migration path reaches MS130-48P. Purchasing remaining hardware stock does not restart Cisco support or extend the retired model's manufacturer service lifecycle.
MS220-48LP has historical Meraki Enterprise term-license options starting at one year with LIC-MS220-48LP-1YR. Three-, five-, seven- and ten-year forms also existed. Confirm current activation eligibility and any existing dashboard entitlement before ordering; a subscription term does not extend the hardware's ended Cisco support or establish a new manufacturer service period.
MS220-48LP provides a shared 370W PoE budget across 48 powered access ports, with PoE+ capability of 30W maximum per port. The aggregate budget is lower than the total needed for every port at that maximum. Size connected phones, cameras and access points against their individual power requirements before allocating ports.
MS220-48LP has four fixed 1G SFP uplinks; 10G SFP+ operation is not supported. MA-SFP-1GB-SX supports multimode fiber, while MA-SFP-1GB-LX10 supports single-mode fiber. Select the transceiver against the installed fiber and remote endpoint. These optical accessories do not change the fixed uplink architecture or increase its maximum supported link speed.
Meraki MS220 offers virtual stacking for unified management, but MS220-48LP does not support a physical data stack. Virtual stacking combines administration of ports without requiring proprietary stack connections. Do not specify physical stack cables or expect dedicated stack bandwidth when adding this model to an existing dashboard-managed estate.
MS220-48LP is a Layer 2 switch, not an OSPF routing switch. VLAN tagging, STP, RSTP and LACP support switched access and trunk connections, while routing between VLANs remains external. DHCP relay support does not turn the switch into a general-purpose Layer 3 routing device or add dynamic routing protocols.
MS220-48LP uses an internal AC power supply and does not accept a second internal redundant supply. External redundancy uses PWR-RPS2300 instead. The chassis accepts 100-240V AC, while full-load consumption reaches 505W. Treat power-backup accessories and site electrical capacity as separate items when defining the equipment scope for an existing installation.
MS220-48LP allocates 370W to PoE, while MS220-48FP allocates 740W. Both are discontinued, so this comparison concerns matching existing installations rather than selecting current hardware. The LP model corresponds to a lower total endpoint-power requirement; the FP model addresses a larger aggregate PoE requirement within the retired family.
MS220-48LP has 48 RJ-45 ports; MS220-24P has 24 RJ-45 ports, four shared with SFP. Both models are discontinued. For existing fleets, the former matches higher copper connection counts, while the latter matches smaller port requirements. Account for the shared connections when preparing a like-for-like spare purchase specification.
MS220-48LP has already passed Cisco's end of support, while MS130-48P is the current migration endpoint through discontinued MS120-48LP-HW. A software license cannot turn the older chassis into the successor. Retain the older model for an explicitly accepted legacy requirement; specify the successor when the purchase requires current hardware.
MS220-48LP is offered new sealed with up to a 3-year extended ORM warranty or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year ORM warranty. Both conditions have 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco originally provided a lifetime hardware warranty, but Cisco coverage and service ended July 29, 2024. ORM refurbishment is separate from Cisco coverage.
