MS220-8-HW is a fanless, cloud-managed Layer 2 access switch with eight 10/100/1000 RJ-45 ports and two fixed 1G SFP uplinks. The desktop chassis provides data connectivity for independently powered endpoints; it does not supply PoE. Cisco Meraki MS220-8 switches serve branch access networks where equipment sits outside a dedicated wiring closet. An integrated AC supply avoids an external power adapter, while the fixed uplink architecture leaves no removable network-module bay to populate. The discontinued MS220-8P-HW differs by providing PoE+ with a shared 124W budget. Meraki MS management uses a browser-based cloud interface rather than command-line configuration, so administration follows the Dashboard workflow rather than local switch configuration files.
MS220-8-HW price for new stock is $763.35. MS220-8-HW refurb price is $133.35. MS220-8-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

20 Gbps of non-blocking switching capacity supports the fixed interface set, and 14.88 Mpps forwarding handles standard-size packets. 8000 MAC entries establish the address-learning ceiling, while 4095 VLANs support separate tagged networks. Eight QoS queues per port provide traffic prioritization for voice, video, and data. STP/RSTP, BPDU guard, and root guard provide loop-control functions; LACP groups links where aggregation is required. MS220-8-HW also supports IGMP snooping, DHCP snooping, MAC-based RADIUS authentication, and IPv4 ACLs for multicast handling and access control. Two-factor authentication and role-based administration control administrator access separately from endpoint authentication. Historical per-port and per-client statistics, searchable event logs, and hostname fingerprinting expose connected-device activity. Virtual stacking combines configuration and monitoring in the cloud but does not create a physical hardware stack. 10W maximum draw establishes the full-load electrical allowance for the switch itself, excluding independently powered endpoints.
Specify MS220-8-HW, quantity, condition, and required optics on the PO; ORM offers new sealed and certified refurbished units. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, clean boot, optics bay recognition, and PSU status, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM provides new-unit extended warranty coverage up to 3 years, certified refurbished coverage up to 1 year, and 30-day returns on every condition; terms apply. Enterprise and volume procurement supports POs, Net-30 for government, and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock/RMA across the UK, EU, US, and MEA.

When a failed branch unit must be replaced without adding a cabinet, included wall-mount hardware and desktop feet support the existing installation style. A Kensington security slot accommodates a physical lock. Check mounting clearances, lock availability, cable access, and the required mounting arrangement before issuing the PO.
When a lab must reproduce an existing Ethernet environment before replacing legacy hardware, support for 9600-byte frames allows the same jumbo-frame setting to be exercised. Match endpoint and upstream frame settings, record the intended test configuration, and specify the required lab quantity before issuing the purchase order.
Inline power for connected endpoints
The copper ports do not provide PoE. Phones, cameras, and access points that depend on power through their network cable cannot receive operating power from this model.
10G uplinks to aggregation
Both fixed SFP uplinks operate at 1G, and the chassis has no uplink expansion bay. A requirement for a 10G uplink exceeds this model's hardware capabilities.
Active Cisco hardware service coverage
Cisco support ended September 21, 2025. MS130 is the current migration family; the intermediate MS120-8-HW replacement is also discontinued and should not anchor a new lifecycle plan.

MS220-8-HW identifies the non-PoE, eight-port Gigabit hardware switch in the Meraki MS220 family. MS220 identifies the family and 8 matches the copper access-port count; the complete HW form is the hardware ordering PID, separate from an Enterprise license. Two fixed SFP interfaces provide the fiber uplinks.
MS220-8-HW is configured through the browser-based Meraki Dashboard rather than a command-line interface. The cloud interface handles configuration, monitoring, role-based administration, and firmware scheduling. SNMPd and SYSLOG provide integration with other monitoring systems; those integrations are separate from the Dashboard configuration workflow used to administer switch settings.
MS220-8-HW is discontinued: end of sale was September 21, 2018, and Cisco support ended September 21, 2025. The original hardware replacement was MS120-8-HW, which is also discontinued. MS130 is the current migration family, so a purchase requiring a new support lifecycle should follow that later generation.
ORM offers MS220-8-HW new sealed or certified refurbished, with extended coverage up to 3 years for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Cisco's original lifetime hardware warranty ended with support on September 21, 2025. Both ORM conditions include 30-day returns; terms apply.
MS220-8-HW hardware and Meraki Enterprise licensing are separate order items; LIC-MS220-8-1YR was the one-year license option. Longer historical terms included three, five, seven, and ten years. Confirm licensing eligibility before ordering legacy hardware, because an Enterprise license does not reinstate Cisco service after the support cutoff.
MS220-8-HW supplies no PoE, while MS220-8P-HW provides PoE+ with a shared 124W budget. Both compact models retain eight Gigabit copper ports and two 1G SFP uplinks. Both are discontinued: the non-PoE variant matches independently powered endpoints, while the powered variant matches existing installations requiring inline endpoint power.
MS220-24-HW carries 24 Gigabit copper interfaces, compared with eight on MS220-8-HW. Both are discontinued, so this comparison addresses existing-installation matching rather than a current-generation recommendation. The larger model matches an existing 24-port cable plant; the compact eight-port model matches a smaller endpoint count and installation footprint.
MS220-8-HW has passed its Cisco support cutoff, while MS130-8-HW belongs to the current MS130 migration family. The discontinued MS120-8-HW is the earlier replacement generation. Exact legacy-hardware matching points toward MS220-8-HW; a purchase requiring a current-generation Meraki switch points toward MS130-8-HW rather than either discontinued generation.
MS220-8-HW provides two fixed 1G SFP uplinks, not 10G SFP+ interfaces. MA-SFP-1GB-SX supports multimode fiber over a 550 m range, while MA-SFP-1GB-LX10 supports single-mode fiber over 10 km. Match the transceiver type, installed fiber, and remote interface before specifying the optics for either uplink connection.
MS220-8-HW cannot form a physical hardware stack. Meraki virtual stacking presents ports from multiple switches through one cloud management interface, but it does not add stacking connectors or a shared data-plane backplane. No physical stack kit or stacking cable belongs on an order for this model.
MS220-8-HW is a Layer 2 switch and does not provide local Layer 3 routing. VLAN trunking, STP/RSTP, and IPv4 ACLs provide segmentation and control without making the switch a routed gateway. Traffic between IP subnets therefore needs a separate routing device elsewhere in the network.
MS220-8 Compact Series switches use a desktop form factor, with included feet and wall-mount hardware. MS220-8-HW measures 45.4 mm high, 230 mm wide, and 220 mm deep, and weighs 1.08 kg. The compact enclosure is not a full-width rack chassis; specify the required surface-mounting arrangement.
MS220-8-HW consumes 10W at full load and 5W when idle through its fixed internal AC supply. The input accepts 100-240V AC at 47-63 Hz. An external power adapter is unnecessary for the base unit; the electrical allowance covers the switch itself, not power for connected endpoints.
