MS120-8-HW combines fanless cooling with cloud-managed Layer 2 access for branch offices, using eight Gigabit Ethernet copper ports and two fixed 1G SFP uplinks. The desktop chassis belongs to the Cisco Meraki MS120-8 Compact Series and connects locally powered endpoints without supplying PoE. The discontinued MS120-8LP-HW adds PoE+ when endpoint power is part of the requirement. Eight traffic queues support quality-of-service policies when voice and video share access links with other traffic. Port security includes Sticky MAC and MAC whitelisting; IPv4 and IPv6 ACLs provide traffic filtering at the wired edge.
MS120-8-HW price for new stock is $202.65. MS120-8-HW refurb price is $157.49. MS120-8-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

20 Gbps switching capacity accommodates traffic across the access and uplink interfaces. 14.88 Mpps forwarding provides a packet-processing reference for sizing the edge. 9W full-load consumption keeps operating draw separate from the 30W rating of the included MA-PWR-30WAC external adapter. MS120-8-HW maintains 16000 MAC forwarding entries for connected devices. STP and RSTP handle loop prevention, while link aggregation supports eight ports per aggregate. IGMP snooping filters multicast forwarding; 9578-byte jumbo frames accommodate larger Ethernet payloads. The Meraki dashboard presents historical port and client statistics alongside remote packet capture, cable tests, ping, and traceroute. SNMP and Syslog connect the switch to other monitoring tools, and firmware upgrades can be scheduled centrally. RADIUS and MAB support endpoint authentication, while DHCP snooping helps detect unauthorized address services. Dynamic routing is absent, so the network needs a separate routed gateway for communication between subnets.
Order MS120-8-HW in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, and specify quantity and condition on the PO. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on, POST, rated-speed links on every port, clean boot, and optics bay recognition; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. ORM Systems provides up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units, up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, and 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply; Cisco's separate, non-transferable limited lifetime hardware warranty ends at product end of support. Enterprise and volume orders accept POs, with Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement.

When an installed MS120-8-HW fleet needs a like-for-like spare, regional stock and RMA handling cover the UK, EU, US, and MEA. Keep replacement hardware aligned with the installed configuration. Specify the destination region, required condition, and spare quantity on the purchase order before arranging replenishment.
When a branch installation places an MS120-8-HW on a wall or utility board, the included mounting screw kit and anchors determine the installation work. Keep cabling and the power connection accessible at the mounting point. Specify the mounting location and confirm the installation materials before approving the PO.
When several locations need the same access policy, 4094 supported VLANs provide a segmentation limit to compare with the site plan. Remote provisioning prepares configurations without local staging. Confirm the VLAN design, administrator roles, and configuration ownership before specifying switch quantities for the rollout purchase order.
PoE power for connected endpoints
MS120-8-HW provides data connectivity without PoE output. The current MS130-8P-HW supplies PoE+ with a shared 120W budget for compact installations requiring powered access ports.
10G uplinks to distribution
MS120-8-HW uplinks operate at 1G, not 10G. The current MS130-8X-HW provides two 10G SFP+ uplinks, with six 1G and two 2.5G access ports.
Physical stacking between switch chassis
MS120-8-HW supports management-only Virtual Stacking rather than a physical stack interconnect. A deployment requiring switches to participate in a hardware stack cannot use this model as a member.

MS120-8-HW identifies the non-PoE hardware version of the compact Meraki MS120-8 switch. MS120 identifies the series, 8 identifies the eight Gigabit copper access ports, and HW distinguishes the hardware order from its separate license. Two fixed 1G SFP uplinks complete this configuration.
The Meraki MS120-8 is managed through the web-based Meraki dashboard for configuration, monitoring, and remote diagnostics. SNMP and Syslog support integration with other monitoring systems. Administrators can schedule firmware upgrades, inspect historical port and client statistics, and use remote packet capture or cable testing during troubleshooting.
MS120-8-HW requires a separate model-specific Enterprise license; the hardware suffix does not include cloud-management entitlement. LIC-MS120-8-1YR provides a one-year option, with three-, five-, seven-, and ten-year terms also available. The licensing requirement remains separate when the hardware is ordered certified refurbished rather than new.
MS120-8-HW has two fixed 1G SFP uplinks in addition to its eight copper access ports. The uplinks do not provide 10G operation or require a removable uplink card. MA-SFP-1GB-SX is a compatible optic; select the transceiver and fiber connection separately from the switch hardware.
Meraki MS120-8 switches support Virtual Stacking for unified port management, not physical stacking between chassis. Virtual Stacking combines configuration and monitoring in the dashboard without creating a hardware stack interconnect. An installation requiring a hardware stack needs a different switch architecture, not a stacking cable added to this model.
MS120-8-HW is a Layer 2 access switch, not a dynamic-routing switch. IPv4 and IPv6 ACLs provide traffic filtering, while DHCP snooping helps control address-service behavior. Those functions do not turn the switch into an inter-VLAN router; routed connectivity belongs elsewhere in the network design.
MS120-8-HW uses the included MA-PWR-30WAC external adapter and draws 6W at idle or 9W at full load. MA-PWR-30WAC is rated at 30W with 12V DC output. The adapter rating is not the switch's power draw, and this non-PoE model supplies no endpoint power.
The Meraki MS120-8 supports wall or utility-board mounting with the included mounting screw kit and anchors, or desktop placement with included feet. The chassis measures 28 mm high, 222 mm wide, and 150 mm deep. A placement plan should account for cabling and the external MA-PWR-30WAC adapter.
MS120-8-HW replaced the discontinued MS220-8-HW as the non-PoE, cloud-managed eight-port Gigabit option. MS220-8-HW reached end of sale on September 21, 2018, and end of support on September 21, 2025. MS120-8-HW is also discontinued, so a purchase must distinguish legacy fleet maintenance from a current-generation rollout.
MS120-8-HW is discontinued and has reached end of sale; MS130 is the current replacement family. Hardware availability does not extend Cisco's support lifecycle. Existing-fleet purchases should preserve the required configuration, while a new rollout should be evaluated against current-generation hardware and its separate licensing requirements.
ORM Systems offers MS120-8-HW new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns are 30 days for every condition, terms apply. Cisco's separate limited lifetime hardware warranty is non-transferable and ends at product end of support.
MS120-8LP-HW provides PoE+ with a shared 67W budget, while MS120-8-HW does not deliver endpoint power. Both are discontinued members of the compact MS120-8 family. The non-PoE version suits locally powered equipment; the LP version addresses existing deployments needing powered access ports within that budget.
MS120-8FP-HW has a fixed internal power supply, while MS120-8-HW uses the external MA-PWR-30WAC adapter. Both models are discontinued. For existing-fleet maintenance, the FP hardware suits an internal-power installation; the external-adapter version suits a mounting arrangement accommodating a separate MA-PWR-30WAC adapter and its cabling.
MS130-8-HW belongs to the current MS130 generation, while MS120-8-HW is discontinued. The MS130 family is the forward migration path for MS120 installations. MS120-8-HW serves like-for-like maintenance of an existing fleet; MS130-8-HW is the current-generation option to evaluate when the purchase starts a new deployment.
