MS120-48-HW combines fanless operation with 48 Gigabit RJ-45 access ports and four fixed 1G SFP uplinks in a 1U rack-mount chassis. This discontinued, managed Layer 2 switch serves branch and campus access connections where endpoints receive power independently; the hardware does not deliver PoE. Meraki MS120 switching uses a browser-based cloud interface for configuration, visibility and remote administration rather than a native command-line workflow. Dedicated uplink interfaces connect local copper endpoints to an aggregation network without consuming an access port for the upstream connection. The discontinued MS120-48LP-HW adds PoE+ with a shared 370W budget instead. The non-PoE version addresses existing family requirements where endpoint power is already supplied outside the switch.
MS120-48-HW price for new stock is $493.49. MS120-48-HW refurb price is $295.98. MS120-48-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

104 Gbps switching capacity supports nonblocking forwarding across the installed interfaces. 77.38 Mpps forwarding handles Ethernet packet processing, while a split-plane architecture separates hardware forwarding from software-based management. 36W full-load consumption sets the switch load for electrical planning. MS120-48-HW maintains 32000 MAC forwarding entries, while the MS120-48 feature set includes STP/RSTP, BPDU guard, root guard and loop guard for controlling Layer 2 topology changes. LACP supports aggregates containing eight ports when multiple physical links must operate together. DHCP snooping and Dynamic ARP Inspection protect access connections against unauthorized server responses and address misuse; IEEE 802.1X, MAB and RADIUS provide admission controls. SNMP and syslog connect operational visibility to external monitoring systems, while IGMP snooping filters multicast traffic. DHCP relay is available, but inter-VLAN routing is not part of the switch's forwarding role. A 0°C to 45°C operating range defines the ambient limits for enclosure planning.
Order MS120-48-HW in new sealed or certified refurbished condition, and specify quantity, hardware condition and license duration on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including rated-speed port links and optics bay recognition, with firmware verified and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM provides up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units or up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, plus 30-day returns in either condition, terms apply; Cisco's nontransferable Limited Lifetime warranty ends at product end of support. Enterprise and volume orders accept POs, with Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement.

When branch deployments are prepared centrally, configuration templates let an MS120 network receive consistent port policies without a separate configuration file for each location. Plan the destination organization, template assignment and initial cloud connectivity before shipment, and specify those onboarding details alongside the hardware order.
When a staging bench must validate large Ethernet frames before a branch shipment, the switch supports 9578-byte jumbo frames and remote packet capture. Build the test around the intended endpoint settings and uplink peers, then include the required transceivers and test configuration in the purchase request.
Endpoint power over Ethernet
MS120-48-HW does not deliver PoE to endpoints. The current MS130 family includes powered models; specify the required endpoint power budget when selecting a replacement from that family.
10G uplinks to distribution
MS120-48-HW limits built-in uplinks to 1G SFP interfaces and has no removable uplink bay. A transceiver change cannot turn these interfaces into 10G uplinks.
Physical data-plane stacking
MS120-48-HW supports Virtual Stacking for centralized port administration, not a dedicated hardware stack. Designs requiring stack cables and a shared stacking data path exceed this model's capabilities.
Inter-VLAN routing on the switch
MS120-48-HW provides Layer 2 access switching with DHCP relay rather than routed access. Networks requiring the switch to route between VLANs need routing elsewhere.

MS120-48-HW identifies MS120 hardware with 48 Gigabit access ports and four 1G SFP uplinks. MS120 is the series, 48 is the access-port count, and HW identifies hardware rather than a bundled cloud license. This non-PoE version does not carry an LP or FP power designation.
MS120-48-HW is managed through the browser-based Meraki Dashboard rather than a native switch CLI. Administrators configure ports, review event logs and schedule firmware changes remotely. SNMP and syslog support integration with other management tools, while remote cable tests and packet capture assist troubleshooting without physical access.
MS120-48-HW is discontinued, and MS130 is the current replacement family for the MS120 series. End of sale is separate from end of support, so discontinued hardware does not automatically mean support has already ended. Match any licensing and support purchase to the remaining product support period.
ORM offers MS120-48-HW new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Returns are available for 30 days in either condition; terms apply. Cisco's nontransferable Limited Lifetime hardware warranty ends at product end of support and is separate from ORM's coverage.
MS120-48-HW requires a separately purchased Enterprise cloud license, with terms starting at one year. LIC-MS120-48-1YR is the one-year license for this hardware; Enterprise terms also include three, five, seven and ten years. The hardware condition does not remove the licensing requirement, so specify the entitlement separately.
MS120-48-HW replaces the discontinued MS220-48-HW as a functionally equivalent Layer 2 cloud-managed access switch. MS220-48-HW reached end of sale on July 29, 2017, and end of support on July 29, 2024. The MS120 series is also discontinued, so replacement planning should include the current MS130 family.
MS120-48LP-HW supplies PoE+ from a shared 370W budget, whereas MS120-48-HW supplies data only. Both models are discontinued. The non-PoE version suits separately powered endpoints; the LP version addresses powered endpoints only when their combined demand fits the available budget.
MS120-48-HW provides 48 Gigabit access ports, while MS120-24-HW provides 24; both retain four 1G SFP uplinks. Both are discontinued non-PoE models. The 48-port unit addresses a larger endpoint count in one chassis, while the 24-port unit fits a smaller connection requirement without selecting powered ports.
MS130-48-HW is part of the current MS130 family, whereas MS120-48-HW is discontinued. MS130 is the replacement family for MS120 access switching. The older model addresses existing MS120 hardware requirements; the current model suits buyers moving their branch access purchases away from a discontinued family.
No, MS120-48-HW does not form a dedicated hardware stack; Virtual Stacking groups port administration through Meraki Dashboard. Administrators can apply configuration across switches without connecting dedicated stack cables, but that management feature does not supply stack bandwidth or convert separate switches into a physically stacked system.
No, the MS120 series provides Layer 2 access switching rather than routed access, although DHCP relay is supported. VLAN separation and access control do not replace an upstream routing function. Specify a separate routing device when traffic must move between VLANs instead of treating this hardware as a routing switch.
No, MS120-48-HW uses one fixed internal AC power supply and does not provide redundant supply bays. The input accepts 100-240V AC at 47-63 Hz. Full-load consumption is 36W, compared with 16W idle, so power planning should distinguish idle operation from the full-load operating condition.
The MS120 series uses four fixed 1G SFP uplinks on its 24-port and 48-port models, including MS120-48-HW. These interfaces are not 10G SFP+ uplinks, and there is no removable uplink-card bay. Specify compatible transceivers for the selected medium and remote-end connection rather than expecting an uplink speed upgrade.
