High-Power Copper Access for Cloud-Managed Campus Networks

MS355-24X2-HW provides multigigabit Ethernet across all 24 copper access ports, supporting negotiated speeds from 100 Mbps through 10 Gbps and UPOE for powered endpoints. This managed Layer 3 access switch has fixed uplinks using four 10G SFP+ connections or two 40G QSFP+ connections, rather than an empty removable uplink bay. The rack-mount 1U chassis belongs to the Cisco Meraki MS355 series and serves enterprise campus networks connecting wireless access points, servers and workstations. Compared with the discontinued MS355-24X-HW, multigigabit connectivity extends beyond eight access ports to the entire copper interface set. The MS family separates hardware-based packet forwarding from cloud-based configuration and monitoring.

MS355-24X2-HW price for new stock is $4,182.15. MS355-24X2-HW refurb price is $1,310.35. MS355-24X2-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

640 Gbps switching capacity and 476 Mpps forwarding support traffic exchange across the access and uplink interfaces. 740W of shared PoE budget must be allocated across connected device loads rather than treated as unrestricted power on every port. Static routing and OSPFv2 support unicast routing, while PIM-ASM handles multicast routing and VRRP provides warm-spare operation; OSPF and warm spare cannot operate concurrently. MS355-24X2-HW accommodates 32000 MAC entries and 4094 VLANs for segmentation across connected endpoints. STP/RSTP, BPDU guard, root guard and loop guard address Layer 2 topology protection. LACP supports aggregates of eight ports, including multichassis aggregates across physically stacked switches. DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection and IPv4/IPv6 ACLs provide additional traffic controls. Administrators can integrate SNMP and SYSLOG monitoring, use remote packet capture and schedule firmware upgrades. Dashboard administration supports role-based access and multi-factor authentication rather than relying on a conventional switch CLI workflow.

Ordering

Specify quantity and condition when ordering MS355-24X2-HW from ORM Systems, with new sealed and certified refurbished options. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested, including PoE output under load on every powered port, firmware verification and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM warranties provide up to 3-year extended coverage for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units; 30-day returns apply to both conditions, terms apply, while Cisco's non-transferable lifetime hardware warranty for eligible original purchasers ends August 8, 2030. Enterprise and volume purchase orders are accepted, with Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Separate cloud license required

MS355-24X2-HW requires separately purchased Meraki Enterprise licensing, starting with the one-year LIC-MS355-24X2-1YR entitlement. Hardware condition does not remove the licensing requirement; specify the required term separately on the purchase order.

Discontinued hardware support deadline

MS355-24X2-HW reached end of sale on August 8, 2025, with support ending August 8, 2030. C9300X-24HX-M is the migration replacement; subsequent hardware purchases do not restart the support period.

Optics require separate ordering

Fiber connections require separately ordered optics for MS355-24X2-HW; the chassis includes fixed uplink cages rather than populated transceivers. Specify the required uplink speed and optical link requirements on the purchase order.

Best For

Physical Stack Expansion

When an existing physical stack needs another member, cable reach becomes part of the hardware order rather than a dashboard-only setting. MS355 accepts MA-CBL-100G-50CM, MA-CBL-100G-1M and MA-CBL-100G-3M for dedicated stacking connections. Measure the installed path and specify the matching cable length with the switch before issuing the PO.

Multipath Routed Access

When routed access needs parallel upstream paths, OSPFv2 supports 16 equal-cost routes for multipath forwarding. DHCP server and relay functions are also available for addressing designs that place those services at the access layer. Check the intended path count and addressing roles, then specify the required configuration before issuing the PO.

Rack Replacement Staging

When a replacement is being staged for an existing cabinet, the included four-post rack mounting kit affects the installation bill of materials. Confirm the cabinet mounting arrangement and allow access for installation and servicing. Specify four-post accommodation and verify the required mounting hardware before releasing the purchase order.

Not Suitable If

Concurrent OSPF and warm-spare routing

OSPF and VRRP warm spare cannot operate concurrently on MS355. A design requiring dynamic routing and that warm-spare mode together exceeds the supported operating combination.

100G network uplinks

Network uplinks stop at 40G; the 100G QSFP28 connectors are dedicated to stacking. A design requiring 100G distribution links needs different uplink hardware.

Fanless or silent operation

Three active MA-FAN-18K fans cool the chassis, so this is not a fanless switch. Rooms requiring passive cooling need a different chassis.

Questions & Answers

What does the MS355-24X2-HW part number mean?

MS355-24X2-HW identifies an MS355-series hardware switch with 24 multigigabit UPOE access ports. MS355 is the series, 24 is the access-port count, X2 distinguishes the all-multigigabit configuration, and HW denotes the hardware unit. The hardware identifier does not include a Meraki Enterprise license term.

How is MS355-24X2-HW managed?

MS355-24X2-HW is configured through the web-based Meraki dashboard, with SNMP and SYSLOG integration for external monitoring. Role-based access and multi-factor authentication control dashboard administration. Remote packet capture, cable tests and scheduled firmware updates are available, while the Meraki Mobile app supports push alerts.

What is the lifecycle status of MS355-24X2-HW?

MS355-24X2-HW is discontinued, with end of sale on August 8, 2025, and end of support on August 8, 2030. The migration replacement is C9300X-24HX-M. Existing hardware purchases and license renewals must be planned around that fixed support endpoint, not a new lifetime starting with the order.

Which condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for MS355-24X2-HW?

ORM Systems offers MS355-24X2-HW new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to 3-year extended coverage for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Returns are available within 30 days for either condition; terms apply. Cisco's non-transferable lifetime hardware warranty applies to eligible original purchasers and ends August 8, 2030.

Which license does MS355-24X2-HW require?

MS355-24X2-HW uses separately purchased Meraki Enterprise licensing, with LIC-MS355-24X2-1YR providing the one-year entry term. Three-, five-, seven- and ten-year Enterprise terms also exist. The hardware PID does not bundle those terms, so the PO must identify the required entitlement and align its duration with the switch's support endpoint.

How much PoE power does MS355-24X2-HW provide?

MS355-24X2-HW supplies UPOE at up to 60W per access port, sharing 740W with the included MA-PWR-1025WAC. A second MA-PWR-1025WAC enables 1440W in combined-power mode. Full 24-port allocation at the per-port maximum requires the larger budget, and combined power falls back when a supply fails.

Which uplinks are available on MS355-24X2-HW?

MS355-24X2-HW provides four 10G SFP+ uplinks or two 40G QSFP+ uplinks through fixed cages. Pluggable optics are ordered separately, and the uplinks are not supplied by a removable network module. The dedicated 100G QSFP28 stacking ports are not 100G network uplinks.

How many switches can an MS355 physical stack contain?

MS355 physical stacking joins eight switches over a 400 Gbps stack fabric, using two dedicated 100G QSFP28 stacking ports per chassis. Compatible cable options are MA-CBL-100G-50CM, MA-CBL-100G-1M and MA-CBL-100G-3M. Virtual stacking is separate dashboard grouping and does not replace the physical interconnect for a hardware stack.

Can the MS355 series perform Layer 3 routing?

Yes, the MS355 series supports static routing, OSPFv2, PIM-ASM multicast routing and VRRP warm-spare operation. OSPFv2 supports 16 equal-cost routes for multipath forwarding. OSPF and warm spare cannot operate concurrently, so the intended routing and failover combination must be settled before configuration.

Does MS355-24X2-HW include redundant power supplies?

MS355-24X2-HW ships with one MA-PWR-1025WAC and accepts a second MA-PWR-1025WAC for redundant or combined-power operation. The second unit is ordered separately. Maximum consumption is 1793W with combined power; the 147W idle figure does not represent the electrical load when attached devices draw PoE.

What rack mounting does the MS355 series require?

MS355-24X2-HW is a 1U rack-mount switch supplied with a four-post rack mounting kit. The chassis measures 43.7 mm high, 484.6 mm wide and 516.6 mm deep, and weighs 5.9 kg. Verify cabinet depth, installation access and the four-post mounting arrangement before ordering.

What is the difference between MS355-24X2-HW and MS355-24X-HW?

MS355-24X2-HW has 24 multigigabit copper access ports, while the discontinued MS355-24X-HW has eight multigigabit ports and 16 Gigabit ports. Both are discontinued MS355 configurations. The all-multigigabit model suits existing estates with dense faster-than-Gigabit connections; the mixed-speed model suits estates needing only eight such connections.

What is the difference between MS355-24X2-HW and MS355-48X2-HW?

MS355-48X2-HW has 48 copper access ports, compared with 24 on MS355-24X2-HW; both are discontinued. The 48-port model combines 24 multigigabit ports with 24 Gigabit ports, whereas the 24-port model is entirely multigigabit. Existing estates needing additional Gigabit density differ from those needing only multigigabit connections.

What is the difference between MS355-24X2-HW and C9300X-24HX-M?

C9300X-24HX-M is the migration replacement for the discontinued MS355-24X2-HW, rather than another configuration within MS355. The older model reached end of sale on August 8, 2025, and support ends August 8, 2030. Existing MS355 sparing needs differ from refresh purchases evaluating the replacement.
