MS220-8P-HW combines fanless Layer 2 access switching with eight Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ ports and two fixed 1G SFP uplinks in a desktop enclosure. The MS220-8 Compact Series serves small sites where phones, wireless access points and cameras need network connectivity and endpoint power without a full-width access switch. Copper connections support 10/100/1000BASE-T operation, while the separate fiber uplinks connect the access location to upstream equipment. The integrated AC supply avoids an external power adapter. Its discontinued non-PoE sibling, MS220-8-HW, retains the same access-port count without supplying endpoint power. This is compact, cloud-managed access hardware rather than a modular switch with an expandable uplink bay.
MS220-8P-HW price for new stock is $416.85. MS220-8P-HW refurb price is $89.25. MS220-8P-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

20 Gbps switching capacity supports the non-blocking switching fabric. 124W of shared PoE capacity must be allocated across connected endpoints rather than treated as a full-power allowance for every port. 159W full-load consumption establishes the electrical planning figure, compared with 13W at idle. MS220-8P-HW accommodates 8000 MAC forwarding entries and 4095 VLAN tags for access-network segmentation. Eight dedicated QoS queues separate traffic priorities for voice, video and data. STP/RSTP addresses Layer 2 loop control, while IGMP snooping filters multicast traffic and LLDP/CDP assists neighbor discovery. Management runs through the browser-based Meraki dashboard rather than a switch CLI. Remote packet capture, cable testing, searchable event logs and SNMP integration provide troubleshooting and monitoring paths. Inter-VLAN routing is not part of this switch's Layer 2 feature set.
Specify new sealed or certified refurbished MS220-8P-HW hardware and the required condition on the PO. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, clean boot, rated-speed links on every port, PoE output under load on every powered port, optics bay recognition and PSU status; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. ORM provides new hardware with up to a 3-year extended warranty, certified refurbished hardware with up to a 1-year warranty, and 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply; Cisco coverage ended September 21, 2025. Enterprise and volume orders can use accepted POs, Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Where a branch installation uses wall space rather than a full-width equipment rack, integrated mounting brackets and a Kensington security slot affect the installation plan. Wall or desk mounting accommodates different placement requirements; confirm the mounting surface, cable access and required security hardware before releasing the PO.
Where an existing Meraki organization adds another location, zero-touch provisioning and historical per-client usage statistics support a repeatable configuration process. Virtual Stacking groups thousands of ports for management without a physical stack connection. Specify the destination organization, port configuration and acceptable legacy-hardware policy before approving the hardware order.
10G uplinks to upstream equipment
MS220-8P-HW has fixed 1G SFP uplinks rather than SFP+ interfaces. Its enclosure has no removable network-module bay for upgrading uplink speed.
Physical stacking with shared forwarding
Virtual Stacking provides centralized port management, not a hardware stack. MS220-8P-HW does not provide dedicated stacking connectors or physical stacking bandwidth.
Active Cisco hardware service coverage
Cisco support for MS220-8P-HW ended on September 21, 2025. Meraki MS130 is the current migration family for buyers requiring a supported replacement.

MS220-8P-HW identifies an MS220-family switch with eight Gigabit access ports, PoE capability and a hardware ordering designation. MS220 names the family, 8 identifies the access-port count, P distinguishes the powered model, and HW identifies hardware rather than its separate Meraki Enterprise term license.
The MS220-8 series is managed through the browser-based Meraki dashboard rather than a switch CLI. Administrators can configure ports, inspect per-client usage, run remote cable tests and capture packets. SNMP integrates monitoring with third-party management tools; Virtual Stacking presents distributed switch ports together.
MS220-8P-HW reached end of sale on September 21, 2018 and end of support on September 21, 2025; Cisco service has ended. Its original replacement, MS120-8FP-HW, is also discontinued. Meraki MS130 is the current migration family rather than another MS120 purchase.
ORM offers MS220-8P-HW new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to a 1-year warranty. Both conditions include 30-day returns, terms apply. Refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested. Cisco's original lifetime hardware warranty and service ended on September 21, 2025.
MS220-8P-HW uses separately ordered Meraki Enterprise term licensing, with LIC-MS220-8P-1YR providing the one-year option. A hardware condition choice does not supply a cloud-management entitlement. Confirm the destination organization's license arrangement and current license availability before ordering legacy hardware; additional license time does not reverse the support-end milestone.
MS220-8P-HW provides a shared 124W PoE budget across eight powered access ports, with PoE+ supporting 30W per port. Eight ports requesting 30W would require 240W, exceeding the available budget. Size the combined endpoint allocation rather than assuming every powered port can deliver its individual maximum simultaneously.
MS220-8P-HW has two fixed 1G SFP uplinks, not 10G SFP+ uplinks. MA-SFP-1GB-SX supports multimode fiber and MA-SFP-1GB-LX10 supports single-mode fiber. Match the selected transceiver to the fiber plant and far-end interface; the SFP cages do not form a removable uplink-module bay.
The MS220-8 series supports Virtual Stacking for centralized management, but not physical hardware stacking. Administrators can group thousands of switch ports without connecting dedicated stack cables. The function unifies configuration and monitoring; it does not add a shared forwarding backplane or stacking bandwidth to this model.
MS220-8P-HW supplies PoE+ while MS220-8-HW does not supply endpoint power. Both models retain eight Gigabit access ports and two 1G SFP uplinks, and both are discontinued. The powered model fits retained PoE endpoints; the non-PoE model fits an existing installation whose devices have local power.
MS220-24P-HW carries 24 Gigabit RJ-45 ports, whereas MS220-8P-HW carries eight, so the larger model addresses a higher copper-port count. Both models are discontinued. The compact unit fits legacy installations with fewer connections; the 24-port unit is a historical density comparison, not a current migration recommendation.
MS220-8P-HW is beyond Cisco support, whereas MS130-8P-HW belongs to the current Meraki MS130 migration family. MS220-8P-HW is a legacy replacement purchase, not a supported lifecycle refresh. Existing-hardware continuity points to the retired model; buyers requiring current hardware should specify the MS130 family.
MS220-8P-HW is a Layer 2 switch rather than an inter-VLAN router. VLAN tagging, STP/RSTP and IGMP snooping support its access-switch role, but routed gateway functions belong elsewhere in the network. Specify an external routing device when the purchase requires communication between IP subnets.
