Cloud-Managed Routed Access for Branches and Small Campuses

MS250-24-HW is a cloud-managed Layer 3 access switch with 24 Gigabit copper ports and four fixed 10G SFP+ uplinks. The non-PoE configuration connects separately powered endpoints, while its 1U rack-mount chassis fits branch and small-campus wiring closets. Cisco Meraki MS250 switches combine physical stacking with centralized configuration rather than a traditional configuration CLI. The discontinued MS250-24P-HW is the powered sibling for installations requiring Ethernet-delivered endpoint power. As a 24-port Gigabit access switch, this configuration separates copper client connections from higher-speed aggregation links without requiring an uplink expansion card. Integrated rack-mounting hardware supports installation in an equipment rack, and the fixed uplink arrangement establishes the available connection format before optics are selected.

MS250-24-HW price for new stock is $2,071.65. MS250-24-HW refurb price is $587.32. MS250-24-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

128 Gbps switching capacity provides the switching fabric for access and uplink traffic, while 95.24 Mpps forwarding supports packet processing on the 24-port configuration. Static routing and OSPF support routed access, with DHCP server and DHCP relay functions available for subnet services. A 16000-entry MAC table supports learned endpoint addresses, and 4094 VLANs provide segmentation capacity. MS250-24-HW supports 9578-byte Ethernet frames for networks using jumbo frames. LACP supports link aggregation, including multichassis aggregates across physically stacked switches. STP/RSTP, BPDU guard, root guard and loop guard provide controls against Layer 2 topology problems. Within the Meraki MS family, IPv4 and IPv6 ACLs, Dynamic ARP Inspection and DHCP snooping provide traffic and address controls. RADIUS and MAB support endpoint authentication, while IGMP snooping filters multicast forwarding. Remote packet capture, cable testing and searchable event logs support troubleshooting without requiring an additional packet-capture appliance at the site.

Ordering

ORM Systems supplies MS250-24-HW new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to 1 year; every condition includes 30-day returns, terms apply. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, every port linking at rated speed, optics bay recognition, MA-PWR-250WAC status, fan status and a clean boot; firmware is verified and configuration wiped to factory default. Submit a PO specifying condition, quantity and required accessories. Enterprise and volume orders are supported with Net-30 for government, RMA with advance replacement, and regional stock/RMA coverage across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Separate cloud license required

MS250-24-HW requires a separately ordered Meraki Enterprise license, starting with LIC-MS250-24-1YR for one year. New sealed and certified refurbished hardware orders both require valid licensing for the intended Meraki organization.

Support endpoint limits planning

MS250-24-HW passed end of sale on August 8, 2025; manufacturer support ends August 8, 2030. Existing-fleet purchases need a replacement plan that does not depend on Cisco service beyond that date.

Physical stack connections required

MS250 physical stacks require MA-CBL-40G-50CM, MA-CBL-40G-1M or MA-CBL-40G-3M connections selected for rack spacing. Virtual Stacking provides dashboard-based port management rather than the physical links between stack members.

Routing and failover conflict

OSPF and VRRP Warm Spare cannot operate concurrently on MS250-24-HW. Routed-access orders using dynamic routing therefore need a failover design that does not depend on enabling Warm Spare at the same time.

Best For

Legacy Hardware Replacement

When maintaining a site that originally used the discontinued MS320-24-HW, MS250-24-HW is its named replacement rather than an unrelated access configuration. Preserve the required connection mappings and network policies, then identify the replacement quantity, configuration responsibilities and cutover acceptance checks before issuing the purchase order.

Physical Stack Expansion

When expanding an existing physical stack, reserve the two dedicated rear stacking interfaces for stack connections rather than endpoint or uplink traffic. Physical connectivity and configured stack membership must agree in Meraki Dashboard. Record the member placement, connection routes and intended stack membership before approving the hardware order.

Not Suitable If

Power delivery to connected endpoints

MS250-24-HW provides data-only copper ports and cannot power phones, cameras or access points. Connected endpoints require their own power source rather than power supplied through these Ethernet ports.

Multigigabit copper access links

MS250-24-HW provides 10/100/1000BASE-T access ports rather than multigigabit copper. Its four fixed 10G SFP+ uplinks do not change the speed supported by the copper access ports.

Manufacturer support beyond August 2030

MS250-24-HW reaches end of support on August 8, 2030. C9300L-24T-4X-M is the current migration option for replacement purchases moving away from the discontinued MS250 lifecycle.

Questions & Answers

What does each part of MS250-24-HW mean?

MS250 identifies the Cisco Meraki MS250 family, 24 identifies the 24 Gigabit copper access ports, and HW identifies the hardware order for MS250-24-HW. This is the non-PoE configuration with four fixed 10G SFP+ uplinks; cloud management requires a separately ordered Enterprise license.

How is MS250-24-HW managed?

MS250-24-HW is configured through the browser-based Meraki Dashboard, with a local status page for initial network settings and connectivity checks. SNMP and SYSLOG integrate monitoring with other tools rather than replace dashboard configuration. Management uses the Meraki interface instead of a traditional configuration CLI.

What is the lifecycle status of MS250-24-HW?

MS250-24-HW reached end of sale on August 8, 2025, and reaches end of support on August 8, 2030. The hardware is discontinued even when reseller inventory remains available. Remaining stock does not extend the manufacturer's support period, so replacement planning should use the support endpoint.

What condition and warranty options does ORM Systems offer for MS250-24-HW?

ORM Systems offers MS250-24-HW new sealed with up to a 3-year extended warranty or certified refurbished with up to 1 year. Both conditions have 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco's lifetime hardware warranty is separate, subject to eligibility, and ends with manufacturer support on August 8, 2030.

Which license does MS250-24-HW require?

MS250-24-HW uses a separately ordered Meraki Enterprise license with 1-, 3-, 5-, 7- or 10-year terms; LIC-MS250-24-1YR is the one-year option. The hardware order does not include that term license. New sealed and certified refurbished purchases both need valid licensing for the intended Meraki organization.

Which older switch did MS250-24-HW replace?

MS250-24-HW replaced the discontinued MS320-24-HW, whose end-of-sale date was March 31, 2017, and whose support ended March 31, 2024. That replacement relationship does not remove the need to confirm uplink connections, licensing and configuration before fitting replacement hardware into an existing Meraki network.

How many switches can an MS250 physical stack contain?

An MS250 physical stack supports eight switches with 80 Gbps stacking bandwidth. Connection options are MA-CBL-40G-50CM, MA-CBL-40G-1M and MA-CBL-40G-3M. Virtual Stacking is separate dashboard-based port management and does not replace the physical stacking connections between chassis or increase the physical stack member limit.

Does MS250-24-HW include redundant power supplies?

MS250-24-HW includes one MA-PWR-250WAC and accepts a second MA-PWR-250WAC for redundant power; the additional MA-PWR-250WAC is ordered separately. The 250W rating belongs to MA-PWR-250WAC, not the switch's operating draw. MS250-24-HW uses 14W at idle and 27W at full load.

Can MS250-24-HW provide routing and Warm Spare redundancy?

MS250-24-HW provides Layer 3 routing with Static, OSPF and VRRP Warm Spare support, but OSPF and Warm Spare cannot operate concurrently. The routing and failover design must therefore select the appropriate operating mode. DHCP server and DHCP relay functions are also available for local subnet services.

What is the difference between MS250-24-HW and MS250-24P-HW?

MS250-24-HW has no PoE output, while the discontinued MS250-24P-HW provides PoE+ with a shared 370W budget. Both retain 24 Gigabit access ports and four 10G SFP+ uplinks. The data-only configuration suits separately powered endpoints; the powered configuration serves existing installations requiring Ethernet-delivered endpoint power.

What is the difference between MS250-24-HW and MS250-48-HW?

MS250-48-HW has 48 Gigabit access ports compared with 24 on MS250-24-HW; both have four 10G SFP+ uplinks. Both models are discontinued. The smaller configuration suits an existing 24-port footprint, while the larger configuration serves legacy closets consolidating more copper connections into one rack unit.

What is the difference between MS250-24-HW and C9300L-24T-4X-M?

MS250-24-HW is discontinued, while C9300L-24T-4X-M is its current migration option. MS250-24-HW serves existing-fleet maintenance bounded by its August 8, 2030 support endpoint. C9300L-24T-4X-M serves replacement purchases moving away from the MS250 lifecycle rather than extending the support period of the older hardware.

What uplinks and optics does MS250-24-HW use?

MS250-24-HW has four fixed 10G SFP+ uplink cages rather than a removable uplink expansion bay. SFP and SFP+ accessories are selected for the required link speed, distance and fiber type. Include the required uplink accessories in the purchase order; dedicated stacking interfaces serve a separate connection role.
