MS220-48-HW is a Layer 2 cloud-managed access switch with 48 Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 ports and four fixed 1G SFP uplinks in a 1U rack chassis. Its non-PoE configuration connects independently powered workstations and other wired endpoints without supplying endpoint power. Cisco Meraki MS220 switches use a browser-based dashboard for configuration, monitoring, and remote diagnostics rather than a traditional switch CLI. The discontinued MS220-48LP-HW differs by providing a shared 370W PoE budget. The 48-port Gigabit access switch with SFP uplinks accommodates copper endpoint connections and fiber connections upstream. Routed gateway functions remain with separate equipment rather than the access switch, so the purchasing decision depends on the existing gateway and uplink arrangement.
MS220-48-HW price for new stock is $2,411.85. MS220-48-HW refurb price is $154.35. MS220-48-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

104 Gbps switching capacity provides a non-blocking fabric for traffic between access connections and upstream links. A 16000-entry MAC table accommodates learned endpoint addresses, while eight class-of-service queues per port support traffic prioritization. STP/RSTP, BPDU guard, and root guard provide loop-prevention controls for redundant Ethernet connections. MS220-48-HW supports 9600-byte Ethernet frames, port mirroring, and IGMP snooping for traffic inspection and multicast filtering. Native inter-VLAN routing and physical hardware stacking are absent; virtual stacking coordinates configuration and monitoring rather than creating a shared forwarding system. Automatic firmware upgrades support centrally scheduled maintenance, and SNMP monitoring connects the device to external network-management tools. An internal AC supply accepts 100-240V input. 51W full-load consumption versus 28W idle consumption establishes the electrical load range for rack power planning; neither figure represents power available to connected endpoints.
ORM Systems supplies MS220-48-HW in new sealed and certified refurbished condition; specify condition, quantity, and required accessories on the purchase order. Certified refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed port links, optics bay recognition, and a clean boot; firmware is verified and configurations are wiped to factory default. ORM warranty options are up to a 3-year extended term for new units and up to 1 year for certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply; Cisco's original lifetime hardware warranty and service ended July 29, 2024. POs are accepted, government Net-30 is available, and RMA includes advance replacement for enterprise and volume orders.

When branch locations share an administration team, role-based access and two-factor authentication allow responsibilities to be assigned within the Meraki management environment. A multi-site standardization order should identify the administrators responsible for each location and specify the required account access arrangements before the purchase order is released.
When an existing network uses aggregated Ethernet connections, the MS220 supports LACP groups containing eight ports per aggregate. A staging purchase should include the intended peer configuration and connection plan so aggregation behavior can be exercised before installation; specify the required connections and compatible uplink components before the purchase order.
Power delivery to connected endpoints
MS220-48-HW supplies no PoE to connected devices. MS130-48P-HW is a current 48-port alternative with a 740W PoE budget; size the combined endpoint demand before selecting it.
10G uplinks to distribution
MS220-48-HW is limited to 1G SFP uplinks. MS130-48X-HW provides four 10G SFP+ uplinks and also changes eight access ports to 2.5G.
Cisco-supported hardware for production
Cisco support for MS220-48-HW ended July 29, 2024. MS130-48-HW is the current non-PoE migration endpoint; the intermediate MS120-48-HW is discontinued.
Physical hardware stacking
MS220 virtual stacking groups configuration and monitoring rather than creating a physical hardware stack. MS150 offers dedicated physical stacking; select its port and power variant separately.

MS220-48-HW identifies an MS220-family, cloud-managed Layer 2 switch with 48 Gigabit Ethernet access ports; HW distinguishes the hardware order from a separate license order. The configuration has no PoE output and includes four fixed 1G SFP uplinks. A license term is not encoded in this hardware PID.
MS220-48-HW is configured and monitored through the browser-based Meraki cloud dashboard rather than a traditional switch CLI. SNMP monitoring also supports integration with external network-management systems. The dashboard provides remote diagnostics, historical port and client statistics, configuration-change logs, and automatic firmware upgrade management.
MS220-48-HW is discontinued, and Cisco support ended July 29, 2024, following its July 29, 2017 end-of-sale date. The replacement chain proceeds through discontinued MS120-48-HW to MS130-48-HW. An order for the older hardware should therefore be treated as an out-of-support purchase, not as a Cisco-supported refresh.
ORM Systems offers MS220-48-HW new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty for new units and up to 1 year for refurbished units. Every condition has 30-day returns; terms apply. Cisco's original lifetime hardware warranty and Cisco service ended July 29, 2024.
MS220-48-HW uses a separately licensed Meraki Enterprise cloud entitlement, with terms starting at one year. LIC-MS220-48-1YR is the one-year form; longer forms cover three, five, seven, or ten years. Confirm existing entitlement and account eligibility before ordering because the hardware has already passed Cisco's support deadline.
MS220-48-HW accepts MA-SFP-1GB-SX for multimode fiber and MA-SFP-1GB-LX10 for single-mode fiber in its 1G SFP uplinks. MA-SFP-1GB-SX supports a 550 m reach, while MA-SFP-1GB-LX10 supports 10 km. Match the transceiver to the fiber type, link distance, and equipment at the opposite end.
MS220 switches provide virtual stacking for unified configuration and monitoring, not physical hardware stacking. Virtual stacking can group ports across switches without dedicated stacking connections. A requirement for a shared hardware stack cannot be met by adding stacking cables or treating dashboard grouping as a forwarding interconnect.
MS220-48-HW cannot provide native inter-VLAN routing because it is a Layer 2 access switch. VLAN tagging and Ethernet switching remain available, but gateway functions must reside on separate routing equipment. A cloud-management license does not change this hardware model into a routed-access switch or add native routing protocols.
MS220-48-HW supports external power redundancy through PWR-RPS2300 rather than a second internal power supply. Its standard power source is internal AC. A requirement for two internal power modules needs a different hardware design; confirm whether an existing PWR-RPS2300 installation forms part of the required configuration.
The MS220-48-HW configuration occupies 1U and includes rack-mount hardware. Its dimensions are 44.4 mm high, 484.6 mm wide, and 360 mm deep, with a weight of 3.84 kg. Check rack depth and space for connections before including the switch in a replacement or spare-equipment order.
MS220-48-HW provides no PoE output, whereas MS220-48LP-HW provides a shared 370W PoE budget. Both models are discontinued and past Cisco support. The non-PoE model suits independently powered endpoints in an existing installation; the LP model addresses legacy installations requiring endpoint power within that shared budget.
MS220-48-HW has 48 Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 ports, compared with 24 on MS220-24-HW. Both are discontinued cloud-managed Layer 2 models. The larger configuration suits an existing installation needing more copper connections in one chassis; the smaller configuration suits legacy replacement orders where the lower port count is sufficient.
MS220-48-HW has passed Cisco's support deadline, while MS130-48-HW is the current migration endpoint after discontinued MS120-48-HW. Both configurations provide 48 Gigabit access ports and four 1G SFP uplinks. The older model addresses out-of-support installed-base sparing; the current model suits replacement purchases that must avoid retired hardware.
