Cloud-Managed Access for Enterprise and Campus Networks

MS355-24X-HW is a cloud-managed Layer 3 access switch combining eight multigigabit copper connections with sixteen Gigabit Ethernet connections in a rack-mount chassis. The multigigabit interfaces negotiate through 10G, while fixed uplink connections provide 10G SFP+ or 40G QSFP+ connectivity without an additional network card. Cisco UPoE supports powered endpoints, including wireless access points, alongside servers and workstations. The MS355 series serves enterprise and campus access networks that need faster copper connections without making every access interface multigigabit. The discontinued MS355-24X2-HW differs by providing multigigabit capability across all twenty-four access connections. Meraki dashboard management replaces a conventional switch-configuration CLI, with centralized configuration, event history and remote troubleshooting.

MS355-24X-HW price for new stock is $1,953.00. MS355-24X-HW refurb price is $1,172.84. MS355-24X-HW is in stock and available for next-day dispatch. (terms applied)

Technical Details

352 Gbps switching capacity and 262 Mpps forwarding support the access and uplink interfaces without treating stacking bandwidth as forwarding throughput. Static routing, OSPFv2 and PIM-ASM provide unicast and multicast routing functions; DHCP server and relay functions support address allocation. A 32000-entry MAC table accommodates connected devices, while STP/RSTP, LACP and multichassis aggregation provide switching and link-resilience controls. MS355-24X-HW separates silicon-based forwarding from software-based control and management. Remote packet capture, cable testing, SNMP and SYSLOG support troubleshooting and integration with external monitoring. Administrators can schedule firmware upgrades rather than updating each device independently. 1744W maximum combined-power consumption sets the input-power allowance for the dual-supply operating configuration, not an idle chassis. The standard package contains one MA-PWR-1025WAC supply and a four-post rack-mount kit; additional power capacity requires another MA-PWR-1025WAC.

Ordering

ORM Systems supplies MS355-24X-HW new sealed or certified refurbished; refurbished units are inspected and bench-tested for power-on and POST, rated-speed links on every port, PoE output under load on every powered port, optics bay recognition and clean boot, with firmware verified and configurations wiped to factory default. ORM warranties are up to 3-year extended on new units and up to 1 year on certified refurbished units, with 30-day returns on every condition, terms apply; Cisco's separate, nontransferable lifetime hardware warranty ends at product end of support. Specify condition, quantity and required accessories before submitting the PO. Enterprise and volume orders support PO acceptance, Net-30 for government and RMA with advance replacement, with regional stock and RMA coverage across the UK, EU, US and MEA.

Buying Notes

Buying NotesKey Specs

Separate cloud license required

MS355-24X-HW requires a separate Meraki Enterprise license. LIC-MS355-24X-1YR provides the one-year option; match the license purchase to the receiving organization's licensing arrangement before placing the hardware order.

Shared endpoint power allocation

A full 24 × 60W endpoint allocation requires 1440W, exceeding the standard 740W shared budget. Order a second MA-PWR-1025WAC for combined-power operation, which falls back to the lower budget after a supply failure.

Optics ordered with cabling

Optical connections require separately selected transceivers and matching fiber. The MS355-24X-HW package includes rack-mount hardware rather than an installed optical connection; specify uplink speed, reach and connector requirements with the order.

Best For

Existing Stack Expansion

An existing MS355 installation needs another access switch within its physical stack rather than another independently managed device. The dedicated stacking connections provide 400 Gbps of stacking bandwidth, separate from network uplinks. Check the intended member arrangement and inter-switch distances before specifying the stacking accessories on the PO.

Multi-Site Configuration Standardization

A branch rollout needs consistent port policies and centrally controlled changes across multiple locations. Configuration templates and virtual stacking support coordinated administration without requiring every switch to share a physical stack. Six configurable QoS queues provide traffic-priority controls; specify the required policy template and administrative roles before ordering.

Routed Access Expansion

An access network needs additional routed interfaces while retaining its existing dynamic-routing design. OSPFv2 supports sixteen equal-cost routes, making path-count requirements a concrete design check rather than a license assumption. Verify the intended routing topology, equal-cost paths and failover method before specifying the switch configuration on the PO.

Not Suitable If

More than eight multigigabit access connections

Eight access connections support multigigabit speeds; the remaining sixteen are Gigabit Ethernet. C9300X-24HX-M provides twenty-four multigigabit copper connections for a full multigigabit access requirement.

Concurrent OSPF and warm spare

OSPF and warm spare do not operate concurrently. A design requiring both functions on the same switch must change its routing or failover arrangement.

100G network uplink connections

Network uplinks stop at 40G. The dedicated 100G QSFP28 connections serve physical stacking and are not substitutes for Ethernet uplinks to other network equipment.

Questions & Answers

What does the MS355-24X-HW part number mean?

MS355-24X-HW identifies MS355-series hardware with twenty-four access connections, including eight multigigabit connections. MS355 names the series, 24 identifies the access-port count, and the 24X configuration combines multigigabit and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. The HW ending identifies the hardware order; Meraki Enterprise licensing is purchased separately.

How is MS355-24X-HW managed?

MS355-24X-HW is configured through the web-based Meraki dashboard rather than a conventional switch-configuration CLI. Dashboard functions include port configuration, event history, remote packet capture, cable testing and scheduled firmware upgrades. SNMP and SYSLOG provide integration with external monitoring systems rather than replacing dashboard configuration.

Is MS355-24X-HW end-of-sale?

MS355-24X-HW belongs to the end-of-sale MS355 family, so hardware purchases concern remaining inventory rather than a currently sold Cisco hardware line. Cisco identifies C9300X-24HX-M as the migration option for this configuration. Hardware warranty eligibility and cloud licensing remain separate considerations when purchasing existing inventory.

What condition and warranty does ORM Systems offer for MS355-24X-HW?

ORM Systems offers MS355-24X-HW new sealed or certified refurbished, with up to a 3-year extended warranty on new units and up to 1 year on refurbished units. Returns are available for 30 days in either condition; terms apply. Cisco's separate, nontransferable lifetime hardware warranty ends at product end of support.

Which license should I order with MS355-24X-HW?

MS355-24X-HW uses a separately purchased Meraki Enterprise license, with LIC-MS355-24X-1YR providing the one-year term. Three-, five-, seven- and ten-year Enterprise terms are also available. Specify the required duration separately from the hardware condition and align the license purchase with the receiving organization's licensing arrangement.

How much endpoint power does MS355-24X-HW provide?

MS355-24X-HW provides a 740W shared endpoint-power budget, increasing to 1440W with combined power from two MA-PWR-1025WAC supplies. Cisco UPoE supports connections requiring as much as 60W. Size the aggregate endpoint allocation against the available budget, including the lower-power operating state following a supply failure.

What uplink connections does the MS355 series provide?

The MS355 series provides fixed uplink connections for four 10G SFP+ links or two 40G QSFP+ links. No removable uplink card is required to provide these connections. Optical transceivers and matching fiber must be selected for the required link speed, distance and connector arrangement.

How many MS355 switches can form a physical stack?

MS355 physical stacking supports eight members with 400 Gbps of stacking bandwidth. Compatible stacking accessories are MA-CBL-100G-50CM, MA-CBL-100G-1M and MA-CBL-100G-3M. Select the cable lengths for the actual rack arrangement; dashboard virtual stacking is a separate management function and does not provide physical inter-switch stacking connections.

Can the MS355 series perform Layer 3 routing?

The MS355 series supports static routing, OSPFv2, PIM-ASM multicast routing and VRRP warm spare. OSPFv2 supports sixteen equal-cost routes, but OSPF and warm spare do not operate concurrently. DHCP server and relay functions are also available, so routing and failover requirements must be checked together before deployment.

What is the difference between MS355-24X-HW and MS355-24X2-HW?

MS355-24X-HW has eight multigigabit access connections, while MS355-24X2-HW has twenty-four multigigabit access connections. Both models are discontinued. The former fits an existing installation needing a limited number of faster copper connections; the latter configuration serves installations requiring multigigabit capability on every access connection.

What is the difference between MS355-24X-HW and MS355-48X-HW?

MS355-24X-HW provides twenty-four access connections, while MS355-48X-HW provides forty-eight access connections. Both models are discontinued. The twenty-four-port model fits smaller existing access groups; the forty-eight-port configuration addresses higher connection density. Select the density against the actual endpoint count rather than treating these hardware orders as interchangeable spares.

What is the difference between MS355-24X-HW and C9300X-24HX-M?

MS355-24X-HW has fixed uplink connections, whereas C9300X-24HX-M uses modular uplinks. The discontinued MS355 hardware fits continuity requirements for existing installations; C9300X-24HX-M is the migration option when a new modular-uplink configuration is required. Include the required uplink hardware in the replacement order rather than assuming fixed connections are included.
